It's been a while since I did an rp here (back when the old site was still up), so I figure it's about time to get back in the swing of things.

I really like the idea of all these classic literary characters dealing with supernatural mysteries. There are so many to choose from, but putting them in a Victorian setting is pretty standard and a little too expected for my tastes. So, what's another setting that goes well with noir mysteries and over the top pulp fiction? The 1940's seems like a perfect fit.

Expect large scale adventures in airships to exotic destinations in search of the supernatural and horrific. Whether your motives are wealth, fame, revenge, love or even scientific curiosity, you'll be lucky to get out alive. Things will be equal parts camp and horror so bring your best one-liners and holy water.

I think I could definitely have fun with this one. First thought is Miss Marple because old English lady super sleuths are practically a fetish of mine, but I'm not sure how an elderly character with no real combat abilities would play in your story. Whatever the case what really interests me is the setting so if Marple doesn't work I'll find something else, no problem.

Playing Miss Marple might be a bit of a challenge but definitely doable! I love having a couple older adventurer or sleuth types in games like this. She can keep the younger members in their place. haha.

I'll wait to see what other types people want to play before I narrow down my choices, but I'll have and older distinguished male and a younger ambitious female to round things out either way. : )

Edit:

Here's a short list of some characters if you're stuck on ideas.

Male=
Dorian Gray
Dracula
Jonathan Harker
Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
Victor Frankenstein
Erik (Phantom of the Opera)
Sherlock Holmes
John Watson
Jay Gatsby
Huckleberry Finn
Robinson Crusoe
Ichabod Crane
Atticus Finch
Jean Valjean
The Invisible Man

Female=
Mina Murray
Christine (Phantom of the Opera)
Jane Eyre
Irene Adler
Scarlett O’Hara
Lizzie Bennett
Nancy Drew
Anne Shirley
Jo March

As long as the character comes from classic literature that can be adapted to the 1940's will work.

I'm interested. I'm thinking more on whom I would want to play but I am leaning towards a member of Obed Marsh's family line from the cthulhu mythos.

I would be interested for sure. Elizabeth of Bathory, Mycroft Holmes, Alice (in wonderland), Faust, Br'er Rabit or El-ahrairah (though they might need to be adapted a bit they could be very fun), Robin Goodfellow...one of those would be my choice for a character though if I kept thinking I could certainly come up with more.

A few other options (not my choice but in general)...
Rhett Butler
Frank and/or Joe Hardy
Sam Spade

Wow so my thoughts started running away. It comes down to "yes I would be interested". Though I have to ask what posting frequency you are looking for?

I'm definitely seeing some interesting character ideas. If there's a few more people looking to join up, I'll begin developing the plot more.

As for posting frequency, i'm pretty open, so long as people don't get left behind. Any preferences?

Here are a few more ideas to take into consideration.

Peter Pan

Doc Savage

Jacob Marley

Tim Cratchit

Bertie Wooster

Mr. Toad

Sweeney Todd

Dick Tracy

Tintin

Sir Topham Hatt (I personally consider Wilbert Awdry's railway series as art)

and Maybe Popeye? i'll let you decide on that one. seems a little too silly though.

I only asked about frequency because I can only post about 2x/week and I don't like to hold people up. I always want to be sure that I can keep up before I start.

I'll need sometime to pick and really develop a character, but I'm definitely interested.

Ok, after some consideration, I'm definitely going with The Fat Controller. If Alan Moore can have Barba the Elephant and Peter Rabbit being eaten alive in his stories i don't see why not. ^^

Edit:One question. how many characters can one person play?

I hope this idea hasn't been lost; ive been really looking forward to it. The more I've thought about it the more I've thought that Br'er Rabbit would make an excellent character.

Hey everyone. I'm on the fence with getting this rp started. I really like the idea but I think it might be a bit much to tackle alone, especially with so many potential players.

I would join, probably as Sam Spade of Maltese Falcon fame.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to set up auditions for potential helper mods if you want or need help keeping things in line. I really wanna see this role-play get off the ground because you've got a good thing going here. I'd also like there to be the option of being able to play a maximum of at least two characters, but that's up to you.

I love the idea...it seems too good to let go. I hope you'll reconsider. iGeorge has a good point...I'm sure there are plenty of talented people who would give you a hand if you needed. Anyway definately count me in if you give it a go.
