Back when I first played through Final Fantasy X, this was a story twist that I came up with in my head:
Xanarcand 1000 years ago was at war with Bevelle. Xanarcand summoners were apt in there magic use and Bevelle was jealous of them. Bevelle was technologically advanced at the time and tried to master magic through technology. They made machina that ran off of magic, and tried to artificially infuse them into it. It didn't work however. The solution became apparent: Go to war and steal the summoners back to Bevelle to harness their power.
While the war ensued, several summoners were kidnapped and taken to labs for study. Horrible, unspeakable, things were done to them there. The Bevellites eventually did figure out how to harness that magic, mold it, and reshape it. They hoped that by "reforming" the magic they could make it where it would take on a Bevellian host of their choosing. So they named the project: The Magically "Re-gifted" program. Numbering their test subjects with roman numerals they eventually came to subject "X". (appropriate right?! ;) ) The magic channeled into his body and it took. Well, as far as they knew it took, he at least didn't die. Without a lot of research on the matter they didn't know exactly what the reprecussions would be by doing this research. So, the scientists injected subject X with enough drugs and hallucinogens that he thought it was all a dream. He awoke in the woods naked and not knowing exactly where he was. He knew he was on an island. Just through the wood-line he saw smoke and ash rising. Shaking his head he quickly could make out the mountain he was on and what was left of Said City.
(renamed Besaid hundreds of years later after the name found on the ruins) "It was just like the dream I had, or was it a dream. . ."
"What do you make of it Atmos?" the scientist asked him as they watched from the air above. "Well, when he went to sleep, he awoke from the nightmare, then like a floodgate the magic the magic we harnessed came pouring out of him and leveled the whole village. It seems extreme emotions trigger his hidden abilities. Excellent, write it down this is going to make for very promising research, indeed."
"Lord Brear!" the summoner shouted. "I know son," he said putting a calming hand on the man's shoulder. "I felt it too. We all did, I think. That much of our power released in such a short burst is catastrophic. It seems those damn Bevellites have finally figured it out. LISTEN TO ME, we have to put Plan Omega into action!!!" With that the summoners invoked the plan, they created sin, not as a punishment for the world, but as its savior. It was meant to be a tool to combat Project X.
Most of the destruction that was tied to Sin was done by that of Project X to cover up for making such a fatal mistake. The Bevelle government after winning the war rescinded all technological advancements and set up Yevon. A faith that they could bury their guilt in. Claiming the countermeasures that Xanarcand put into place was made for everyone to atone for their "Sins". All of the scientists were ordered killed having involvement with the experiments and anyone else who had any remote idea were sworn into secrecy. So basically the truth died with the war.
Until now. Lady Yuna and her group of famous guardians destroyed Sin more than 30 years ago now. The worlds only hope gone. Were they heroes? Or were they doombringers. Lady Yunalesca gave them words of warning to not mess with the final summon, yet they did not heed her warning.
A chill sends down your spine as you close this ancient text that you and your archaeological party uncovered in an ancient Xanarcand library. It had magic placed upon to keep the tome from aging. What will you do to stop this threat? Will you be the heroes to figure out how to stop this? The people think eternal peace has come, but it's just subsided.
I figure the standard type of characters will be allowed to play. If anymore questions about details please feel free to post here or message me.
