Early Years
The Nagato Province is one of the small villages that is within the Land of Iron, located in its north western area. For as long as the village has remained inhabited the Yagami have acted as the ruling authority figures, as well as its military. While predominately a samurai clan, the Yagami trace their lineage back to a minor shinobi clan, the Higurashi, who migrated to the village when they were nearly destroyed by a rival clan during the Shinobi Warring Clans Era. At the time, they were severely weakened and were at the mercy of the inhabitants. The clan head - Yagami Ryuu formed an alliance with the shinobi clan, by marrying the clan heiress Higurashi Mikumo. Shortly after, the Higurashi were integrated into the family passing down their secret techniques. The Higurashi however were not the only shinobi clan that was displaced during the Shinobi Warring Clans Era, with many other clans undergoing a similar metamorphosis with other island inhabitants.
Warring States Era
In time, many of the samurai clans began to amass their power, and as a consequence their borders. Soon civil war erupted throughout the Land of Iron, each clan vying for power. The Yagami first warred with the Sanada clan, a conflict arising from their competition for natural resources in the unhabitable villages nearby. This however lasted only few months, as both were unexpectedly attacked by the much larger clan the Kanada. Forced to abandon their differences the Sanada and the Yagami allied themselves to fight the war against the Kanada, a war that lasted for many years. The two clans were finally able to land a decisive victory over the Kanada, when they trapped its forces in a deadly pincer attack, cut off from supply lines. After several exhausting weeks of guerrilla combat the Sanada and the Yagami were able to destroy the Kanada. The two clans had since developed such respect and dependence on one another that they formed a permanent alliance. Since then, the Yagami and Sanada clans have beaten the test of time, surviving through hundreds of small conflicts and several major wars that has plagued the history of the Land of Iron.
Population: The Yagami clan have undergone significant changes in their population since the years of the Bloody Mist. Prior to that, the Sanada clan composed roughly half of the clan's population, before their betrayal by the two elder brothers reducing them by two-thirds. After Kyo took the helm as clan head, they clan began to steadily rebuild itself, and experienced a boon in their population when they absorbed hundreds of bloodline limit users into their clan. With a new generation of clan members their total population is said to exceed almost a thousand, however not all members are of Yagami descent, many are splintered bloodline limit clans who are under their protection, and serve as additional forces.
Profession: The Yagami are primarily a military force, a samurai one at that and as such much of their exports/imports deal largely with the manufacture of weapons and armor. They have developed a highly advanced method of smiting, known as Hiden Kaji (????, "secret formula smiting") and is a closely guarded secret, which allows them to extract vast quantities of chakra from the rich chakra veins that comb through the island. It is also used as an all-purpose energy when electricity will not work. It can be infused into materials to strength, lighten or sharpen them; assemble goods from raw materials via chakra streams, and manipulate or negate the physical forces (gravity, friction, etc). It is their weapons though that garner the greatest respect, simply known as Yomibusou for the ebony metal of their weapons. These powerfully built weapons are extraordinarily durable, able to withstand extreme temperatures, damage from external forces and chakra based attacks. In fact, due to its high durability it is largely considered nigh indestructible. Weapons forged from the Yagami are highly prized, possessing some of the greatest sword-smiths outside of Hidden Mist itself.
Clan Politics: The Yagami are governed by a ruling council of members selected from the various families in the clan. However above them lies the clan head, who has the absolute authority, although the clan head will rarely overturn any decisions made by the council. The inheritance of clan head is passed down through two means, the first and most commonplace method is lineage. Now the Yagami have a rather complex method of determining who is next in line, when there are several children, as the clan head is free to choose who will be his heir. The other method is much rarer, but deals with the transmission of the clans most sacred art - the Gorin no Taisei. While nearly any member of the Yagami can learn the secrets of the Gorin no Taisei, very few show the potential to reach beyond normalcy in its use. There are those who are skilled enough, possessing the necessary traits to excel above and beyond others. In this case it is not uncommon for the clan head to choose one who has reached the pinnacle of their art. Now, the Yagami have always been philosophical in regards to the sword, codifying a foundation since the clans creation by which the clan head is to act and live their life. If these qualities are found in another, then they are to be considered a worthy choice for the clan.
Clan Religion: The Yagami along with many other clans are currently undergoing a cultural renaissance regarding the philosophy and use of the sword. For centuries the sword has been a tool, a means to an end given the constant civil wars plaguing the lands. But after the 2nd Great Shinobi War and the Bloodline Limit Purge, many clans have largely settled down. Before swordsmanship and other taijutsu skills were taught for the benefit that they would be used in war, but now that the time of war is over, many have begun to practice the martial arts for its own sake. The sword is evolving from "the sword that kills" to "the sword that gives life" a philosophy promoting the mastery and perfection of an art in a of religious fashion. As such there has been an explosive increase in the number of martial arts schools, all across the region, although clans tend to favor various ideals and concepts suiting the evolution of their own tradition. The Yagami specifically have a unique set of beliefs created since its founding, laid down by the first clan head Ryuu Yagami. It has since evolved into the present day Tsurugi-no-Kanjin (????, "fundamentals of the sword").
Yomibusou (????, lit. "Underworld Armaments"): These are the Yagami Clans most prized weapons, created using a Hiden known only by their most esteemed sword smiths. The amount of chakra infused in any one weapon is measured in shitan (no plural), which is enough chakra to fuel a single C-Rank Ninjutsu. The average armament contains anywhere from 10 to 15 shitan, while high quality and more powerful weapons possess exponentially more. Such weapons are said to possess unique or supernatural powers. Kiyoudo Yagami’s weapon the Amanoterasu, the ancestral blade of the Yagami clan contains about 1,000 shitan. Its scabbard contains 3,000 shitan.
Rank: A
Chakra Nature: Lightning
Appearance:
Nazo is a man who looks exactly how he acts: a mysterious enigma. His body postures usually give off the impression that he is short, but that is quite the opposite. He stands nearly six feet even. Due to his slouched postures that he takes, it’s impossible to tell if he is even taller than what some believe him to be. His body type tends to be on the slender side. He probably comes to a weight of 178 pounds, more or less. That does seem a bit skinny, but something you have to keep in mind is that Nazo is really quick. So, that’s a price that he has to pay. . His hair seems to have a weird style as it comes long on the sides, but is short in the back. The front has bangs that cover his forehead, but seem to align perfectly around his left eye. It’s white in color and his eyes are piercing red.
Nazo has a pretty interesting attire. He doesn’t dress like most Samurai or Ninja, since that how he appears to be a hybrid of. He does seem to have shihakusho, which isn’t a standard samurai get-up. Usually, samurai seem to have some type of armor or some traditional kimono. However, Nazo doesn’t have that. His attire is a sleeveless shihakusho that has a hood. He covers his mouth and nose with a half-mask. It’s made of a soft cloth, so it’s not restricting airflow or anything of the sort. If anything, the wrist guard that Nazo wears on both of his wrists. Speaking of his hands, attached to those wrist guards are black gloves that he wears on both hands. His shoes are also made from some kind of armor, so there’s that as well. On his arms, Nazo seems to have some odd trial markings on both of them in the same design and the same part of his upper arm section.
Personality:
Nazo is mostly a quiet man and well-reserved person. He only speaks when he feels the need to or is addressed. He seems to be wise for his age. His knowledge enables him to understand complex situations and fortify decisions during the most dire of situations. Outside that quiet manner he presents himself in, Nazo tends to be very weird. He often invades the personal space of others and sometimes people start to wonder if he is really all there in the head. Just when they start to think that they understand him, he’ll do something that will make them completely stop thinking that. Even if he might seem not all there in the head, he always seems to prove victorious in battle due to the fact that he never underestimates his opponents. He takes into account about their abilities and possible weaknesses. In battle, if things are too boring, he will move quickly to another area and eventually become lethargic and somewhat childish. Against powerful opponents, he remains focused and always hides his emotions.
The mysterious way that Nazo acts can sometimes be confusing to his opponents as it leads them to think that he doesn’t have much to offer. It is known to those that know Nazo that he will address others by odd nicknames. Nobody really knows why he does that, but it does seem his way to seem normal, even though it doesn’t appear that way to his friends and associates.
History:
As it is with every Samurai in existence, Nazo was born in the Land of Iron. Even more so, he was born into one of the most famous clans in the Land of Iron’s history, the Yagami Clan. While Nazo no longer associates with his clan’s ideals or ambitions, he still prides himself in being a Yagami and if anyone were to badmouth his clan, he would, at the very least, defend his clan in his own way. Up until about six years ago, Nazo was happily living in the Land of Iron, but due to some shit that happened in his personal life, he felt the need to find his own path. So, he left what would have been a prominent role in the Yagami clan to travel the shinobi world as a wandering samurai. From time-to-time, he accepts odd jobs. Most of these jobs include guard detail for lord of smaller countries and he even was guard for a Feudal Lord, but that ended badly, so he left.
When things about some faction or group known simply as The Empire started to conquer lands, Nazo, very slowly, realized that the option to work freely would diminish real quickly. He knew he would have to find himself a semi-permanent job. When he thought he found something that would last for a while, there was always something that would end that. It would either be the results of The Empire’s actions or other things interfering with it. Nevertheless, Nazo kept on moving. In his mid-20s, Nazo somehow found himself finding a home in Kohona. Somehow, this place seemed to be stable for him. He even found a job at a weapons shop. He doesn’t make much, but it’s enough to keep him alive and off the streets. Perhaps things will get better for him.

See appearance picture. Nothing special about the sword.
[u]Skills/AbilitiesTenmetsu-suru(Through The Flashes)
This Kenjutsu fighting stance is unique to Nazo. By using his own style of fighting where his body is slouched and slightly twisted in a counter-clockwise position, he has a unique way of delivering attacks and defending. He holds his sword away from him towards his back in a reverse grip. He uses his quick speed to use circular motions and defensive parries. His back leg(left leg) is almost off the ground while his front leg is firmly planted. He has his right arm bent and his right hand over his left hand that holds the sword. By the time that he would attack, the reverse-gripped sword of his will deliver multiple slashes within seconds. He also utilizes flips and swerves to aid and abed his movements. It’s almost as if there are flashes of him. This could almost be compared to the fast movements of the Swift Release, just slightly less complex.
Iaidō(Way of Iai)
The term Iaido refers to a specific style of kenjutsu that is concerned with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard. The linear motion and force applied to draw the sword from the scabbard results in slashes that are faster and stronger than ones executed with the sword already drawn. The speed at which these techniques can be executed — the initial strike in particular — is such, that when performed by a skilled user, it can prevent enemy shinobi from forming hand seals(and thus Ninjutsu) by explontng the small opening that these movements create. This makes them highly effective against most shinobi.
Special TraitsSpecial TraitsKenjutsu
As a Samurai, it should come to no surprise that Nazo is a powerful user of Kenjutsu. Being trained by some of the best of the Yagami clan and his own practices around the world. His skill with a blade makes him a powerful opponent in his own right. He uses two different styles of Kenjutsu, depending on the heat of battle. In less-threatening fights, he will simply use the Iaido style. In more threatening fights, he will use his Tenmaetsu-suru style. His speed puts him on par with many, well-trained samurai, enabling him to attack opponents while they are weaving hand signals to perform ninjutsu. When he does that, it makes ninjutsu against him nearly useless. His quick strikes are also trained to aim for tendons, vital muscles, and blood vessels to cripple the oppoent before landing a final blow.
Chakra Manipulation and Reserves
Nazo has a good handle on chakra manipulation as seen through his ability to utilize chakra within his Kenjutsu techniques. He utilizes the lightning nature, which often makes his quickness even quicker than it is usually. As for reserves, some could say that he can range from having slightly above average to well over average chakra reserves.
Taijutsu
Not the greatest at hand-to-hand combat, but Nazo can definitely handle himself if need be. He doesn’t like to resort to it, but if he must, he will do as such.
Other Skills
Nazo has a host of other skills and talents that he benefits from. For example, he is a master of espionage, capable of hiding himself for safety and surveillance purposes to compensate for his limited skill for Genjutsu. Due to his constant reading of past wars and constant preparation, Nazo can create strategies to face various opponents, even if the advantage is theirs. He is also capable of forging and mending swords and other bladed weapons. He constantly reforges his sword and experiments with it to increase its strength and cutting ability.
Kekkei Genkai: N/A
Jutsu:
Custom Jutsu
Name of Technique: Tenmetsu-suru: Haya-sa En no mawari (Through The Flashes: Quickness Around The Edges)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu
Class: Offensive
Classification: Offensive
Rank:B-A
Range: Short range
Nature Type: None
Handseals: None
Description: The first technique that Nazo has developed for his Tenmetsu-suru Kenjutsu style. It begins to which he dashes side-to-side slashing anything that comes at him. When he starts to do the big finish, he jumps into the air and by twisting his body he slashes anything in the air and as he lands to the ground, a vertical slash hits whatever he is aiming for.
Weakness: It’s all about timing. Anything out of sync and the entire technique is ruined.
Name of Technique: Tenmatsu-suru: Eijisuru(Through The Flashes: Through The Edges)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu
Class: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Mid to Short Range
Nature Type: None
Handseals: none
Description: Unlike Haya-sa En no mawari, Eijisuru focuses on direct movement using quick footwork. Dashing so quick, Nazo takes his sword, spins, and with his back towards the oppoennt, he impales them with his sword.
Weakness: Since it happens in seconds, dodging time is very limited.
Name of Technique: Tenmatsu-suru: Eijinoue(Through The Flashes: Over The Edges)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu
Class: Offensive; Defensive
Rank: A
Range: Short Range
Nature Type: none
Handseals: none
Description: A continuation of Eijisuru, this technique follows up in case of a blocking of the impalement. It happens by Nazo parrying the block as he turns his body in the direction of which the enemy’s weapon comes in for his opening. When his body is at a point that he can strike again, he goes in for multiple slashes. All of this happens with his weapon in reverse grip. He’ll keep going until he lands a hit.
Weakness:
Name of Technique: Tenmatsu: Ryushutsuha(Discharge Blade)
Type of Jutsu: Ninjutsu; Kenjutsu; Chakra Flow
Class: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short to mid-range
Nature Type: Lightning
Handseals: rooster
Description: After making the needed hand signal, Nazo channels his lightning chakra into his weapon until it starts glowing blue and becomes overcharged with such force it becomes static. Nazo then slashes torwards his opponent and the chakra is released all at once in the form of a fast-moving arc of lightning chakra. The attack itself is highly volatile, capable of cutting into the target and tearing through most armor. Upon contact, powerful static charges race into the opponent’s body and could very well cause serious damage.
Weakness: The chakra needed for this jutsu is a lot and that’s the main weakness to it because it requires focus and concentration.
Name of Technique: Shuchukusai(Converging Horizon)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu; Chakra Rlow
Class: Offensive
Rank: C-A
Range: Short Range
Nature Type: None
Handseals: None
Description: This technique, utilizing the Iaido principles involves Nazo charging towards the enemy with very quick movements. Should it be successful, he would slash at them, horizontally at the abdomen area. If there is a previous chakra build up, the edge of the blade fans out from the center of the initial cut, which would further add to the attack. It could be, at very least, a burn-like inuury.
Weakness: This technique has a 50% success rate. On the flip side, it has a 50% fail rate.
Name of Technique: Senja Zanshu(Beheading of a Thousand Snakes)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu; Chakra Flow
Class: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short Range
Nature Type: None
Handseals: None
Description: This is a technique that Nazo invented by combining the principles of the Samurai Sabre jutsu and the Iaido style. By flowing chakra into his sword, Nazo slashes at all possible directions in quick succession. It’s used mainly as a defensive counter-measure, but it could also be used as an offensive front. It just depends on how Nazo uses it.
Weakness: Quick slashes and timing are the key. Do with that what you will.
Name of Technique: Kyutengiri(Heaven Beheading)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu
Class: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Nature Type: none
Handseals: None
Description: Kyutengiri is a technique in which Nazo uses his sword to strike from above an opponent. To do this effectively, it is necessary to be bigger than an enemy, have the higher ground, or jump; while even smaller users can employ this technique, to be smaller would make it more dangerous for them. The strike can be used to disable an opponent by attacking the shoulders and making the arms unusable, but some, like Nazo, may employ this technique as a means to kill by directly going for the head. To achieve sufficient damage, though, it is often required to utilize an overhead swing, giving the sword enough force to penetrate the skull or even cleanly slit the head of an enemy in two. Given the strength of Nazo would have sometimes, he would have to resort to Chakra Flow to enhance the strength of either his sword or his own body.
Weakness: Due to the fact that Nazo may not have the physicality to do such a technique, using chakra flow could put strain on his muscles and effect the accuracy of the technique.
Name of Technique: Yokogiri(Horizontal Beheading)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu
Class: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short
Nature Type: None
Handseals: None
Description: This is an Iaido technique meant to slash an opponent across the upper body or midsection. It usually involves Nazo dashing towards the enemy to get close, and then swinging the sword upwards from a crouching position, but it can also be employing without the crouching position. Typically for Iaido, the sword is kept in its sheath before being drawn or held in the hand, but directed to the opposite side of the hand holding the sword to get more force behind the strike. Besides the more shallow cut normally used, it can also be in a more gruesome manner to split an opponent’s body in two, but this is merely the case and requires immense physical strength of a very sharp blade. Aside from wounding an opponent, this technique can be employed much like the Cloud-Style Crescent Moon Beheading to block weapons thrown by an enemy.
Weakness: It’s all about dodging. Whether the target can or not is up to them.
Name of Technique: Issen Hoshutsu(Flash Burst)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu; Chakra Flow
Class: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: All Ranges
Nature Type: Depends on the user
Handseals: None
Description: This technique is a concentrated and intensified version of Flash, a technique normally associated with the Samurai native to the Land of Iron. Like its parent technique, this jutsu releases a sharp arc of chakra from the sword in which it originated from towards the intended the target. Conversely though, the wave of chakra utilized with this jutsu is generally more intense, appearing as a shockwave of bright, illuminated energy. Additionally, rather than relatively small crescent-shaped projectiles, Flash Burst is usually manifests as an attack of much large volume. As such, this technique can cause a much greater level of destruction compared to its predecessor in therms of both cutting potential and overall scale
Weakness: Being a more advanced form of Flash, the chakra cost is higher and greater risk comes from that.
Name of Technique: Iai Bakuho(Iai Blast)
Type of Jutsu: Kenjutsu; Chakra Flow
Class: Offensive
Rank: C-A
Range: Short and Mid
Nature Type: Varies
Handseals: None
Description: A highly variable knouts technique that utilizes chakra flow in conjunction with an Iai sword draw to release a powerful burst of destructive chakra. The form of this technique is completely dependent on the type of chakra that is flowed into the technique. Despite the fact that several different chakras that can be used with this technique, unaltered, raw chakra is useless with this technique. The power of this technique seems based on the speed that the user draws the sword.
When this technique is performed with the lightning nature, the sword it is implemented into generates a wave of uncompressed chakra that can electrocute targets in a wide arc,, yet shallow, in front of the user. Such an attack can disable lesser opponents with ease and disrupt the formation of Doton techniques. Additionally, one can also compress the lightning chakra in question into a crescent-shaped burst of lightning that can be launched towards targets. This arc of lightning can cut through most substances with ease, thus granting it potential lethality.
Weakness: The higher the chakra put into this technique, the higher the chakra cost.
