Laying my head back, I relaxed knowing we were safe and that we wouldn't be running into trouble for a while. "Alright soldiers. Relax. You've all done a great job, we'll get you home soon." One of the soldiers who helped us in spoke us, looking at us all with a comforting smile. I watched as the others settled in for the long flight and saw a few of them close their eyes, obviously keen to get some rest before being thrown back into the action of training.

I snuggled down farther into my seat, keeping my eyes closed and listening to the soldier who had assured us we'd be home soon. A faint smile crept across my face. We'd only been gone a day but it felt like months. If this is what we'd be getting into until the war was over, I was sure we were in for a rude awakening. What we did was nothing. It was probably considered child's play to Lyric, Slacks and the others. They were experienced and had been doing this for a while. Us? Not so much. With a sigh and the extra reassurance that we were safe, I drifted off into a well needed sleep.

After staring out the window for some time, seeing nothing but white clouds and patches of blue sky, I turned my head into the seat, knowing I should be resting up like everyone else. With a deep breath and a wince, I closed my eyes and settled in, feeling a tiredness wash over me quickly, leading me into a deep sleep.

"Wake up, soldiers. We're home." I heard and slowly opened my eyes. The ride must've taken two or three hours, I wasn't sure. I was just happy to be back at the bases. I looked out the window to see we were landing. Our gloomy and most likely base looked just the same as we'd left it. Gray and a little run down. But as of right now, I wouldn't like it any other way. It felt good to be safe again.

I woke up slowly, feeling my body ache from sitting stiff in one position for so long. I winced as I stretched my limbs out and looked out the window of the helicopter. Once we had touched down on the ground, the soldiers opened up the door as the helicopter blades above us slowed down to a stop. All at once everyone moved and unclicked their seatbelts, standing up and getting ready to hop out. I followed along and waited until everyone was off before climbing out slowly after them, one arm circled around my ribs as if to stop them from moving.

I stretched my arms high in the air once we were all out of the helicopter, making the typical stretching sound in the process. Turning my head towards Sam, I could see he was still in a lot of pain. He looked as if he was about to double over.

"Take the kid to the infirmary. He looks like he's about to pass out any second." Slacks spoke as he ran a hand through his wild hair. I nodded, walking over to Sam, I looped my arm through his. Waiting on him until he was ready to walk.

"Thank you." I said to Daisy, giving her a smile as she put her arm through mine, letting me lean most of my weight on her.
"It's not too far that way." Slacks said pointing ahead before looking back at us. "Shouldn't take you more than five minutes." I looked ahead to where he had pointed and squinted my eyes, trying to see the infirmary he was talking about. With no luck, Daisy and I began walking, making our way slowly through the camp to what hopefully was a warm and comfortable infirmary.

"You ok?" I asked quietly, as we walked. We were almost there. "I can tell you're in a lot of pain." I adjusted my arm a little so I could help him better. Taking on most of his weight wasn't easy but I did it. Sam had a much worse beating than I got back at the Jaxlor camp. I was sure I only had a few bruises, but Sam was in bad shape. I hoped he'd heal up soon. "They're gonna fix you up real good once we get there."

I nodded, knowing she was right. "I'll be okay soon." I said looking down at the ground as I walked, concentrating on my steps to prevent myself from tripping over.
"Are you?" I asked her. "I mean, you got... captured as well, they didn't really seem like the kinda people who held anything back."

I smiled a small smile and took a deep breath. "I'm ok. They didn't get me as bad as they got you. Just a kick in the stomach." I paused. "I probably have some bruises on my ribs. But I'll be fine, don't you worry about me."

I nodded. If I was never stupid enough to let my guard down, I would never have gotten taken and Daisy would've never had to come rushing after me. She would never have gotten hurt.
"You should still get checked out." I said glancing over at her. "It could be worth it and probably won't take more than a few minutes."

"Well I-" I was going to protest, but I decided against it. "You're right." I sighed. "I just hope nothing is actually wrong with me." Looking up, we were right in front of the infirmary. As we walked towards the door, I opened it for Sam and I and led the way in. It was a lot nicer than some of the other infirmary's I'd heard about. At least this place was an actual building and not a tent.

I smiled, glad that she was going to get herself checked out, it have me slight peace of mind over what had happened. Once we were through the doors, we walked down a wooden clad hallway, unsure of where we were supposed to go.
"I heard you were coming." A voice spoke out from behind us and I looked over my shoulder as we stopped walking. A middle aged woman stood with her arms folded, dressed in the same grey that painted this camp, only her uniform had a red cross on the chest. "Come on, this way. We'll get you all fixed up." She said gesturing towards a door we had already passed, a small smile growing on her face.

"Good." I smiled back at her as Sam and I followed the woman through the doors. Inside, the walls were white and there were a few patients scattered about the room. One lying in bed with his leg in a sling, another sleeping.
"I'm Glenda." The woman spoke up. "Let's have a look at you." She led Sam and I to a bed where I let go of his arm, helping him boost himself up on the hospital bed.

Smiling at Daisy in thanks, I sat on the bed waiting as Glenda moved about, grabbing a tray full of supplies and tools, dragging it after her as she returned to us.
"You too, Hun." She said looking at Daisy and waving her arm to the bed, gesturing for her to sit.

I was just about to sneak away when Glenda gestured me to sit on the bed as well. I huffed and did as she said, plopping down and resting my hands in my lap.
"You first. You look like you've had a rough time." Glenda spoke again.

Letting my hands drop to my side, I gripped the edge of the bed, preparing to be poked and prodded. I cringed as Glenda reached her hands up, to touch each side of my face, turning it gently to get a better look at my jaw. "Well, you'll certainly be needing some stitches, but nothing I can't handle. We'll start there and make our way down." She said looking me in the eye as she pulled her hands away, patting me lightly on the shoulder.

"Now a quick check up for you." She turned to me. "You don't look like you've been hurt any, but we'll still check." She began to do the same thing she'd done to Sam, poking me and turning my head, carefully examining me. "You look fine to me." She began to feel my sides and stomach. "Does any of this hurt?" She asked. I shook my head no, but gasped once she put pressure on my ribs. I could swear whatever she did felt like a punch to me. "Oh?" She raised my shirt just high enough to reveal a big blue bruise. All the traveling and walking we did hadn't caused me any pain until now.

I watched as Glenda did her examination of Daisy and felt my heart pound when she gasped aloud at the poke in her side. I turned away, looking across to the other patients to give them some privacy as Glenda began lifting up Daisy's shirt to get a better look. There was hardly anyone in here, I wondered if that meant there were more similar rooms to this building or if they just hardly had any injured people around here.
