RPing Real People

I've noticed in the 1x1 section (maybe it's in other sections but I frequent that part of the site more) people wanting to RP people that actually exist (i.e. employees of Rooster Teeth Productions). Does anyone have a take on this? I myself find it... odd, to say the least. I'm perfectly OK with playing God with fictional characters, but people who are living and breathing as we speak?

I've seen it done but it isn't something I am personally comfortable with, although I'm rarely comfortable when it comes to playing canon characters due to the fact that I would be more focused (and probably a little overstressed) on trying not to veer away from the way the person would act and react to situations instead of focusing on the general roleplay. In my opinion playing as real characters would seem harder to do so in comparison to fictional characters.

I don't even people like playing canon characters if their writing a roleplay or fan fic based on a fandom (because 90% of the time, they get the character horribly wrong and impose their own ideas on said character instead of embracing how the creator intended them to be), so playing real people, who are endlessly complicated and multifaceted that can't be easily shoved into a trope, is kind of tasteless in a few ways, especially because whatever problems you have writing fanfics about a fictional character, you aren't going to truly understand a real person.

Plus, as Kaga said, it's goddamn weird. Imagine stumbling across a story somebody wrote about you. It would feel wrong.

I don't find it very comfortable. If someone asks for romance with that, I go from "uncomfortable" to "lividly disturbed" pretty quick.

Look it's one thing to fantasize about other people. It's another to ask me to pretend to be them, especially if you're asking me to do serious thoughts and emotions like love or lust or hate or pain or so on.

Like everyone else has said, it's too creepy for me. Even if it was some random celebrity like Tom Cruise or Kate Middleton, something just doesn't sit right with me around the idea of RPing real living people.

Beyond the creepiness, I RP to try out larger than life settings, from D&D-style medieval fantasy to sci-fi space operas to post-apocalyptic wastelands. I already have something for RPing real people. It's called real life, and it sucks to RP in my frank opinion.

I see nothing wrong in that. Unless it goes sexual, in which case that can go pretty weird pretty fast.
