Welcome to The Dark Ages
ALWAYS OPEN!


The year is 1350, and Europe is currently experiencing the infamous dark ages. The Black Death is ravaging the land, decimating people across the continent. War is raging both in and between nations. People everywhere are losing faith and hope, wondering where the love of God has gone. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the forces of darkness are more real than ever.

This game is set in an alternate reality, where much (if not all) of the superstitions people had back then are true. Europe is riddled with vampires, witches, werewolves and all the other servants of Satan. It’s a time and place where the night belongs to other beings than man, where the uncharted wilderness has masters of its own.

You will take on the roles of villains, heroes and the people in between. It’s an open-world kind of game where you make your own fate, make your own adventure. There will be no red line, no glorious quest for the salvation of mankind – just the stories of the people living in these wretched times.

So take your place in the annals of history. Go forth and live out your goals, good or evil. Just remember that the night is dark… and full of terrors.

When creating your character, feel free to use your imagination, but don’t overdo it. Save the all-powerful harbingers of doom to another game. You are allowed to play as more than one character at a time, just keep it focused. We don’t need the confusion that too many characters can bring. Be nice to each other when playing, and discuss things in the OOC before doing something drastic. This isn’t a competition; it’s a collective creative process. Finally, fill out the Character Sheet for each of your characters and wait until it’s been accepted before posting in the IC.

Name: Petruccio Manin
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: Vincent stands at around 5'10''-6', his light brow hair is secured behind him, an effort to keep it out of his face. His face carries the same soft angles as his fellow countrymen and his eyes are a light grey. When not "at work" his dress is that of a normal artisan. However when he is "at work" he is an imposing figure in his doctor robes, his mask covering his face, their dark glass eyes glinting in the sunlight.
Personality: A bit of an oddball, Petruccio can jump from being straightforward to off topic in a matter of moments, even with his job he is usually upbeat, though the sheer darkness of the disease he must combat can get to him.
Origin: The Most Serene Republic Of Venice
Background: Petruccio was born to Ermo Manin and Avila Manin in 1328 in their home in the north side of Venice. His father was a tradesman, though he accually ran overland routs instead of the normal sea routs, his explanation being that Venice had more than enough sea tradesmen, but no-one to carry the goods to the more landlocked cities and towns once they got on shore, but Petruccio soon realized that sea travel simply made his father uneasy. Life was pretty normal for the family as he grew, and even though they were considered of the lower classes Avila insured her son received some form of education, much to the dismay of his father's coin purse. He learned how to read and write quickly enough and generally enjoyed his schooling, but around the age of 10 he was sent to live with his grandmother, who lived on a Lord's estate a few miles outside the city. There he still learned, only this time it was about animal physiology and the humors of the body, it was at this time that Petruccio found his calling in life. When he was able to he applied for and was accepted into a church run academy and studied to be a Physician, it was at this time he learned English (A language he considers to be his weakest.). As the Plague arrived in force and various institutions and governments sent out the call for specialized physicians, Petruccio jumped at the chance and has been a Plague doctor since, usually in employment to small towns and minor Lords, though he has been known to wander.
Equipment: General Plague doctor attire and supplies, general medicines and poisons, two stiletto knives, surgery kit.
Miscellaneous: Petruccio's family (Including Petruccio) is a long line of Lycans, which may help to account as to why he has not contracted the Plague. He has also taken an interest in post mortem autopsies as a way to learn the affects of the disease, always done in secret and very carefully.

Name: Ixonia Rose Yipsilanti
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Ixonia is a slender young woman who is a gypsy and has descended from a long line of gypsies. She has the traditional look of a gypsy: long braided ebony black hair that has purple glints in it, dark brown eyes, long lashes, tanned skin, long fingers with a ring on each one, and the sway of a female.
Personality: When she is unsure of something, she plays with her long braided hair. She is particular about killing creatures and only for eating purposes unless the creature happens to attack her. She always says a simple prayer of thanks for giving up its life so she could live longer.
Origin: Born in Muntenia, Wallachia and traveled many places with a 25 wagon caravan.
Background:
Ixonia’s family traveled together, ate together, danced together, and often times cousins married cousins of the extended family. Sometimes they met up with other gypsy tribes and have the chance to marry someone from another caravan.
Ixonia’s parents, Tamas and Esmeralda were the head of the caravan. During the fateful time, the caravan (except Ixonia who had a spat with Zindalo Gitani who wanted to marry her) was visiting and chatting with another caravan of the family Gitani who were escaping from a plague ridden city of Commana just a week before. Unknown to them, the Gitani were carrying the dreaded plague with them. Some of the older members were feeling under the weather and soon show signs of the plague. They only spent 1 day together because of Ixonia’s and Zindalo’s feelings were not of the same mind. Gitanis moved onward and did not stay for the usual meeting of the gypsies. However the dreaded plague had spread to the Yipsilanti tribe.
The next to arrive were the Cikan tribe who only spent the night and kept to themselves. They left early the next day because they were afraid of the plague.
The Gitani tribe and the Jinganos tribe came but only sent a messenger for both had a few who were ‘inflected’ and did not want to spread the disease.
The tribe of Adcincani sent a messenger to say that the toll of the tribe’s death was wiping them out. Ixonia was intrigued by the tribe of Adcincani who were very aloof and very sensual in a mysterious ways- particularly was fond of Andrzej Adcincani .
Andrzej Adcincani was the one who came over to do the speaking. He spoke briefly to Tamas Yisiplanti then left to be waylaid by Ixonia. He spoke sharply to her which made her start to tear up. He suddenly grabbed her and kissed her very passionately then whispered
“I hope that you do not spread the disease nor I. For I am now the head of the tribe and shall see that if we both …… let me just say that should we happen to meet again one day, we must talk. But now I must attend to other matters. May you have the health of the wealthy and may we meet again one day.”

“Oh Andrzej! I do hope that this plague soon cease, It has killed too many. But be off with ye with my blessing of wellness and happiness for I am sure that we shall meet again one day. Go and do what you must do. I shall be here each year if life is willing.” Ixonia whispered back as she hugged him then fled to her room.
The next day both tribes departed early and most never saw each other again.
As the Yipsilanti tribe traveled, they began to lose members rather quickly. As the members left for greener pastures, a wagon was designated for storing the belongings. Then 2 wagons and then 3 wagons. Finally wagons were left behind and the horses were released to the wild until all but Ixonia were gone. She had all but she choose to keep the best of the best. Most was simply left outside of Muntenia the next year. She waited for a month then left to do some trading on her route. Two wagons hitched together and four of the strongest horses- 2 male and 2 female- was kept for her use.

Appearance:matthew wilson is a 6.4 feet tall person.he is kinda skinny. he has black hair.green eyes kinda looks like merlin from the tv show merlin he wears a dark robe when he is stealing stuff that kinda looks like a assassin from assassins creed the reason he looks like this is because he is a theft and he steals alot of things
Personality: matthew wilson is a sarcastic person and also very rebellious and hates rich people because they do little to help the poor.he is also very very greedy due to his love of gold

Background:matthew wilson was a adverge joe in a adverge venice place making whatever money he can by bartending a bar untill it was shut down since it had horrible business then when anything couldn't get worst his entire family got the plague and died so he blamed the rich for not being able to help him so he steals whatever cash he can get from the rich
Equipmen:dark robes when stealing a butcher knife a sword and a crossbow he wears light body armor beneath his robes for protection a rope and a ring which his wife gave to him before she got killed by the plague
Miscellaneous:the ring his wife gave him is magical and as long as he wears it he is immune to the plague however noone knows about this even matthew wilson himself!

Name: Theodora Magdelina Adrianos

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: Theodora stands above average height for a woman at about five foot six or seven. She has long, uncut, dark, chestnut hair with slight waves braided down her back. A simple, thin, white headpiece scarf is tucked around her head in almost a wimple-like fashion, for attempted modesty purposes despite her single nature.

She has been blessed with olive colored skin. Light freckles are sprinkled over her nose and inner cheek. Her eyes are a dark hazel or olive green color. Her lips are small, and readily pressed together in order to remain penitently silent. She wears a long dress-like garment which is copper or brown in color and flares in the bodice in the guise of an unpretentious woman. Over her chemise is a kirtle, off-white in color. A camel colored cloak is worn over her entire wardrobe, which covered her dark footwear.

Personality: Theodora is pious in character and perpetually trying to ascend the ladder of true divinity. Her mistakes are taken gravely, which is shown in her slightly unforgiving attitude towards herself. She breaks her own heart repeatedly to help those that need help. She has an insistent need to see the Christ-like icon in everyone around her. She is desperate to achieve true wholeness in her mind, body, heart, and spirit. Although, she tries to be as angelic as possible, she unfortunately had her follies. At times she can seem prude and prideful and arrogant. Despite her modest attire, she can appear to be pompous, which is not her true intent, but an unfortunate curse.

Origin: Byzantium

Background: Theodora was born to Artemas and Irene Adrianos in the small Byzantium. Her father was in the Palaiologan military. He was a sailor and often times due to the small number of their militia, he was called to duty to fight off the Turks. She grew to learn the arts taught to her by her mother, the arts of cooking, weaving, and tending to other household chores. At age ten, she started showing signs of an ability, most commonly known as for being a visionary. However, her powers were shown to be of any good. Her visions were numbered by demons and not sent directly by God but interceded through the evil one. She was thought of to be a witch and exorcised.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances of the Byzantine Empire, the economy and wars against the Muslims, or maybe just a lack of faith from the ones conducting and praying the exorcisms, her powers remained with her. Her spiritual powers were considered, "at an unrest." To her mother and father's dismay, she was sent to the nunnery at Saint Mary of Mongols in Constantinople, where she lived amongst the monastery's life for four years, secluded from society.

Alas, at the fall of Thrace, and word of the death of her parents to the plague, the witch left the monastery for Western Europe, seeking escape from the war, the dark disease, and possibly even the plague, which seemed to have no affect on her.

Equipment: Theodora's most prized possession is a white, silk one-hundred knot prayer rope, which is wrapped around her left wrist. A golden Byzantine cross is hung around her neck, as well. She carries a dark brown sack with coins, rope, gloves, a scarf, a blanket, two canisters of water or liquid such as wine, a spare silk prayer rope with elaborate beads and gold, incense in forms of Myrrh, Frankincense, herbs such as Basil, Rose Mary, Thyme, Lavender, Hazelwood, Wormswood, Nutmeg, Dandelion, Mugwort, Cloves, and Allspice, oils in scents such as Thieves, Lemon, Rose Mary, Frankincense, Rose, Saint Katherine of Alexandria, Holy Chrism, and olive.

Miscellaneous: Despite her carrying disposition, she is more concerned with her body's addiction to witchcraft than the Black Plague. She is worried about the entire world dying around her while she reminds alive. She is searching for a spiritual cleanser who will help her with her "possession" or anyone that can help her. She has the tendencies of an out cast, afraid to be excommunicated from the Church.

Saxon looks older than he really is. A lifetime of fighting baltic barbarians have rendered him strong and tough, but tired and scarred. He has short blonde hair and a big bushy beard. His eyes are green. He wears simple and comfortable clothing when not in his armor.

Personality: An aura of self confidence surrounds the veteran knight wherever he goes. He seems calm, almost tired, when not in battle. When fighting he transforms into a raging lunatic, screaming at the top of his lungs. Saxon is generally methodic when dealing with everyday issues and is a very pious man.

Origin: Saxon was born in Baveria to a low ranking noble.

Background: Coming from a long line of warriors, Saxon had no choice but to follow the predestined path his ancestors had set up for him. He has fought against the enemies of the church and the order since he was old enough to carry a sword.

Equipment: Armor, sword and shield, clothes, a horse and travelling gear.

Miscellaneous: Conversational in a few languages, including german, french, english, italian and latin. Can write and read in latin.
