The bookie froze right in his spot. Terror had gripped him, sending a hard shiver down his spine. Gulping. Feeling the cold steel of Jake's pistol at his back. He knew that Cotton wasn't joking. That tone in his voice. In this line of profession, he knew how to spot those who were killers and those who were pretenders not capable of the task. This man was without doubt a killer. A cold blooded predator. At least, that's how it seemed to him right then. The line between life and death a simple pull of a small trigger. His blood could be all over the floor and it'd be over.
Problem for Jake. Deserae had frozen too. It was moving too fast for her. She just stared at the cash box below, and back to Cotton's gun. The Lost Ones were not supposed to kill, and their new member seemed to have not hesitations about doing it. How could she know he had no intention of actually putting the man down. He had to appear as serious as possible. And the slower Deserae took, the faster more eyes could catch what was happening. Jake shot a quick, hostile glance at DJ. As if he were telling her to get a move on. The anger was flaring up in his eyes. The bookie finally spoke.
"Okay… I'll do what you want. Just, don't kill me." He almost tripped trying to move the box with his foot. Sliding it backwards so it was right there for the taking. At last, Deserae had caught herself. She leaned down and grabbed the box. The mission was complete. But, was it? It took too long for everything to happen. Some unwanted attention came their way. A new set of bodyguards. And not only that…
"Get out, now." Jake said loud enough for DJ to hear. She was trembling with fear. All of this had gone wrong so quickly. But, to her credit, she steeled herself and pushed through the crowd. Cotton knew she wouldn't get out so easily, so he needed to be the distraction. Like a solider, always ready to put his life on the line for the sake of his brothers and the mission.
After the fight, Deon washed some blood off his hands and wanted to get ready for the next fight. He had plenty of time to get ready. Get some food in his stomach and take on the next unfortunate challenger. He walked on out with his shirt off. Always the kind of guy to draw attention to himself. But, unlike most men who put on the tough guy act, he could back every bit of that image up with brute force and bloodied knuckles. He was a wolf through an through. A hunter, a predator. The kind of person who fed off the weaknesses of his opponents. The type to play with his food before he devoured it. That much was clear inside of the ring. And, what did he see when he wandered on out. Only Golden Boy ready to steal away the purse that he'd rightfully earned. He moved in very fast to stop the robbery, ready to pick a fight. Jake's eyes caught him too. Observant of everything, especially a nearby booth that provided good cover. And that's when Jake made the decision…
He raised his gun in the air, causing Deon to freeze and some others to panic. Cotton sprinted to the booth and fired two, thunderously loud shots in the air. Diving for cover. All hell broke loose. People screaming, dropping to the floor, running for the exits.
But no one cared about the missing box, and Deserae just had to navigate her way through the streaming masses of people. Hopefully find one of the other Lost Ones and safely find her way out. Either way, Jake was ready to keep himself alive. Using every opportunity to hind behind a mass of people and slip through. Keep hidden.
It was chaos.
