The war engines of Viel could be heard all throughout the dark alleyways, the cruel metal clanks echoing off the walls of the alleyways. The land was in disarray, crushed by the subjugating force of the North. Almost every resource was being expended toward the hopeless war, industry was wild and along with it child labor was rampant. Poverty rates were higher than ever recorded, children were forced to work for their families in the brutal factories, often working from early in the morning to deep into the night, being paid only enough for perhaps a single, small meal. Dreams were withering as the country was dragged deeper and deeper into darkness. This isn't a story of the war, of the soldiers, or even of the leaders, this is the story of the urchins who struggle to survive on the blackened streets of Viel.
Hello and welcome to the OOC of Withering Dreams of Viel! This roleplay is set in a fictitious steampunk world crippled by war and with very high rates of poverty. The roleplay is about a group of street urchins struggling to survive on the streets and not have to work in the cruel factories. As you can imagine, they have to resort to a bit more "creative" ways to make ends meet every day, such as stealing and scavenging. By Steampunk I'm talking about things such as war machines that walk on legs, zeppelins, aeroplanes, gears, and steam power. Just use your imagination and it'll work out fine.

Personality: (How your character reacts and behaves, and how they think on the inside.)

Name: Billy Schwarz
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Personality: Billy is a dreamer, and lives far beyond the world they live in. He wishes for freedom and a world of adventure and excitement, not a world devastated by war. This attitude can make him slightly arrogant at times. Billy is very passionate, and due to his low temper he can get very angry at others for not following his ideals. He's extremely loyal and protective, and will always be there for those he cares about. Billy has a lonely side too that he doesn't show much, though it still bothers him a lot. Very prideful and stubborn, he doesn't often give up. He despises the factories of Viel and the war.
Appearance:
Billy stands at 5'6, and is short and stocky. He's strong from the long years working in the factories and his hands are rough and callused. Arms are covered in scars from burns and lesions that were acquired in the factory.
Bio: Billy's father was drafted to war before he was even born, dying in battle and leaving his wife alone to take care of their child. When Billy was only 5, his mother fell ill and was unable to provide for the two of them, confined to bed. He had to get a job in one of the many factories of Viel for the minimal pay, working in the construction of gears and steam-powered machines. This provided minimal pay, and Billy often went hungry as his mother needed the food more. He got in a lot of fights growing up, leading him to be quite skilled at hand-to-hand combat. When Billy was 15, his mother passed away, falling to illness. Billy was alone and crushed, and he spent the next year in a state of extreme despair, day by to night working the factory, everything was grey and drab. When he turned 16, he snapped out of his depression and took initiative. He couldn't work himself in the life-sucking factories anymore, nothing would ever change if he kept that up. Someway or another Billy would have to find a way to live differently, and somehow he would make a change to the grey world.
