Magic had slowly started appearing around the 1690's. Magic users around the world kept mostly to themselves, travelling around the world as they picked up orphans who had potential. After years of protest and war, magic had been fully recognized as 'natural' in the U.S at year 20XX. Firearms and other modern weapons were useless against magic. Soon enough, the government and military were burned to ashes. Now, magic users have taken over the U.S.A as well as many other countries. In 20XX, the rate of children being born with magic spiked. Schools and a new military were being built by the masses to nurture and control magic. And in a matter of years, what used to be witchcraft was now considered a characteristic of a 'human'.
New York, year 20XX. The Campione's and the Addario's are the two biggest mafia crime families. For years, the two families have been fighting each other for territory and clients. For this roleplay, you can choose to be in either family or as part of the New York Police Department.

Magic cores define what type of magician you are. A mix of two is allowed.
Rule: In IC combat, don't be a godmod. I trust your judgement.
The Life Core revolves mainly around light. A Life magic user can easily knit wounds in a matter of seconds and can reduce symptoms of an illness. They can also use light-based attacks as well.
Limits: Unable to resurrect. While highly useful in combat, healing spells require a generous amount of strength. So, don't spam or you'll asdfghjkl.
The Spirit Core revolves around arcane. A Spirit magic user have a huge arsenal of defensive spells. Also, they have the ability to channel their magic to another user.
Limits: Depending on the amount of people affected and/or how strong the defense spell, it can quickly weaken the user's strength. Shields don't last forever, so they will eventually have to be either broken or called off. Shields cannot be applied right after being broken or called off.
The Death Core revolves around dark. A Death magic user can cast hexes and curses (like HoP). They also have the ability to summon dark creatures.
Limits: Can only summon two dark beings at one time. Their size and power affect the duration and the amount of strength drained.
The Element Core revolves around the four elements; fire, water, earth, and wind.
Limits: Don't godmod. Max: Only 2.
The Trick core revolves around the mind. A Trick magic user can teleport (only yourself), levitate, turn invisible, use basic mind-talking thing, go through objects, and control inanimate objects.
Limits: Illusions, mind-reading, and anything Jean Grey is a no no. :I
The Summon core allow the magic use to summon a variety of monsters.
Limits: Size, power, and the amount of monsters summoned affects the user's strength. Only four can be summoned at one time. If you have a Death Core along with this Core, a max of 5 at a time is allowed. (with the ability to summon dark creatures).
