The main problem with casual right now is that it's filled with people who don't want to be affiliated with free and advanced plus people who are high casual level people like myself whom are self conscious about going to advance because when you casually look into advanced and see essays per post. I personally think we should split casual into a 'normal' casual and 'high' casual section which may solve some of the issues but in itself is not a perfect solution.

My biggest problem is the personalities that Casual roleplays tend attract, which really ruin it for me and other players who are just trying to have fun.

New Bitching

Prisk's siggy. I wanted to post relevant material, but it was just distracting enough to bring that effort to an end.

In retrospect, not really gonna bitch about it.

I dislike when people fail to understand that people come here to rp for fun, as a hobby to enjoy the company of others as opposed to some so harsh that it makes this place seem like a job or chore. There is a level of intellect required to write in general but that is what the community is for, to help people learn and grow... not hinder.

I have fun when I do what you call "work", I like crafting an enjoyable experience that isn't one-dimensional or ridden with inconsistencies. I mean first drafts of anything are always a mess, but even since I was like 13 or 14 I've seen fun in caring about my hobby beyond a fleeting distraction.

This is a common problem whenever there is 'skill' segregation. There's always going to be a point where the 'better than worst' and 'worse than the best' meet, which creates this huge gap between play ability. I think that tagging your roleplay as 'High-Casual' should do the trick, no? Most people know what it is, so why would we need a separate forum for it? It would most likely lead to further segregation: 'high-high-casual' or 'low-advanced', which already exists I think.

@Prince, No, by all means, go ahead and bitch about it.

If you're doing high-casual, you're doing advanced standards. There shouldn't be a stigma or apprehension about advanced, most games only have a 2-3 paragraph minimum.

It's not the minimum length that turns people off, Derv, it's the maximum length. 2-3 paragraphs isn't much for a lot of people at all, but some rps and their posting can go to any length, there's no general cap, and some people just don't want to read extremely long posts. 'High Casual' tends to be a bit more... concise about posting length, I guess?

Trust me, I used do exclusively high casual, and a lot of them have posts that put most advanced games to shame. The thing is, standards and lengths are what the players make them. Nothing is stopping players who prefer a shorter post length from making a game in a section they're more than capable of
doing. Ever think that other people in casual might look at a high casual game and feel the same way you do about advanced? Not encouraging.

Remember, you meet the site standards, and people tend to post in similar length to their peers. Don't write off an entire section because some games have long posts; it's not all like that.

Trust me I know that length is arbitary but it's what you do with that length that matters. Roleplays in Free can have better posts than casual if done correctly. Sometimes you can do what takes others paragraphs with just a sentence. However the flip side being that other times you need length and you need that size to show. I judge people by their character sheets before the roleplay even starts. I've been wrong in the past and I've written off good roleplayers for it but I've also stopped roleplayers who don't take their work seriously or don't understand that a character needs to fit into the whole a certain way. Length and quality generalizations a every tedious and full of holes process but it's still a process that needs to be done.

High Casual, in my experience and during I short time using the term, has been nothing more than an advanced RP put into casual to avoid any potential advanced stigma.

Most in HC could do advanced if, and when, they wanted even if there wasn't a 2-3 paragraph minimum.

To me, it's usually a useless tag. But it has its use, casual draws a lot more people, so HC satisfies a variety of needs. Not enough to warrant its own section, however.

When you create an original RP, and only like one other person posts on it. It's happened to me QUITE a few times. Everyone just wants to stay in their little bubbles, that when an original idea comes, noone is interested.

When you're in a promising RPG that you like, it's just getting started and suddenly someone declares it to be dead. Happened to me a few times.

This doesn't happen too often but when it does...

I dislike when someone goes in to an rp to just put it down or argue with people about their ideas. Saw a player do that very recently in a nation rp interest check.

Is it necessary to go in to an rp and make a negative comment? I mean, if I do not like something I just stay out.

Yeah. I've encountered my fair share of bad people and or people who just don't get that the GM doesn't want something in an rp. For example mixing two races together in a rp where monsters are based on powers and power classes. Mixing a lower ranking monster with a higher ranking monster won't just allow you to have pointy teeth there would be a bunch of criss crossing powers. There are the acceptions of the creatures who act like Asari and have some additional benefits but are always JUST asari but sometimes it just doesn't work that way and people can't think about that.

And an addition to this: When Every single Freaking Roleplay is a Freaking Anime Roleplay. (SAO seems to be the biggest offender.) I mean I like anime as much as Bob The Janitor. (I don't know if Bob likes anime, just an expression I use.) as you can see by my profile picture. but when EVERY roleplay is an anime roleplay, or something along those lines with 20 people and 4 pages of posts, where as the original ones have only 3 people and not even a page of posts. I UNDERSTAND YOU WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE, BUT REACH OUT FOR ONCE! Sorry, it just ticks me off.

I'm still under the impression that there are no actual casual players left in the casual section. I rarely see posts under a page in length. I guess my tastes are the same as all the wordy people. I'd love to be able to be in more than one rp at a time.
