Oh, huh. That's strange that you didn't have one.

I was planned to have Catholic schooling my whole life, from preschool all the way to college (Notre Dame). Then I switched to a public school and we stopped going to church. Dunno what the fuck happened.

Not really. There were more students and it was much more diverse. Didn't have to wear a uniform anymore so I never understood why people complained about the dress code. Didn't have to take an hour out of each school day to attend mass, or observe religious holidays like Lent. No more religion class either. The students were poorer, because most Catholic schools are expensive to attend with the cost of uniforms and tuition. Teachers (and the staff/administration in general) paid less attention to the class, and students were subsequently more rowdy.

Basically what you'd expect the differences to be. I'm glad I had the experience of going there, I think it helped build me up to be a more mature and respectful person. That being said, I am now Atheist. Things don't really stick too well in a young mind and later on once I started public school, I started forming my own thoughts about all that, and eventually concluded that I was Atheist.

I do, actually. Not sure why I'm so curious. I find it interesting to sort of 'compare childhoods' if you know what I mean. (That~ sounded kind of weird when proofreading.)

I actually always wished my schools had uniforms. For some reason, I always enjoyed the look of them. The trendier ones anyway. Now, you mentioned Religion class. I'm assuming that wasn't a study of general past religions, but rather Judeo-Christian belief studies. Was it like a Bible Study? Also, did you study other culture's deities in history?

No problem, I do too actually, I just like learning about people and different backgrounds in general.

Our uniforms were khaki pants/shorts with school color short-sleeve polos emblazoned with the school logo for boys. Girls wore the same thing, although they had the option of wearing plaid/khaki skirts. You could also order sweater vests, sweaters, and jackets with the logo on them. Polos always had to be tucked in, white undershirt beneath. Shoes didn't matter, could wear whatever we wanted. Jean day first Friday of each month. I never really minded the uniforms, they weren't horribly ugly.

Religion class, we had workbooks like this;



You're correct, we only studied the beliefs relevant to Catholicism. I don't remember it 100% clearly, but I'm fairly certain we didn't study any other culture's religions from the past. It wasn't a Bible Study, it was just a regular class. We had the books like shown above, which covered "faith" in general along with specifics about religious holidays and events, along with some other miscellaneous religion related things.

Actually, I didn't attend a "Christian" school. Normal schools are like that here in Britain - everyone, regardless of religious faith, sings those hymns in primary school (up 'til you're about 12). I went to private school for a couple years and they had to sing them in high school too. As I remember it, my primary school religious education was very Christianity-focused as well. The payoff is that once you get to high school it's much more multicultural and pluralistic.

Contrary to popular belief, it's not much different than public school. We learned about dinosaurs and geology and all that normal stuff, if a student asked a question about how it conflicted with Catholicism it would usually be answered with something about how we believe something that wasn't the mainstream, so things would be a bit different. It wasn't oppressive or anything, they didn't force beliefs down our throat.

Take this with a grain of salt, it was around 10 years ago and I don't remember everything too clearly.

As you listen, imagine an auditorium full of about two-hundred kids with varying degrees of coordination, none of whom were fully awake, shuffling awkwardly as this song suggested. When the guys said "chacha now, y'all" we were allowed to take creative license in our dance moves. I usually stood stark-still with my hands jammed in my pockets as the mass of awkward bodies writhed disturbingly around me.

That's good to hear. It's pretty refreshing. Then again, for all their Dogma, the Catholic church is actually rather good at adapting with the world. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
