Lothar opened his weary eyes and caressed his head trying once again to forget the past. He lifted his head and realised he was not in his cabin but in the cockpit with half his crew looking at him bewildered. Lothar wanted to shout at them to get back to work and leave him alone but he knew the respect his crew had for him was hanging by a thread, instead Lothar asked the Navigator "Remind me, where are we be heading?" The Navigator had his mouth hanging wide open and shut it immediately when he realised Lothar was talking to him "Er... Well... We are... Actually you haven't set a course for us Sir. We have just been drifting" Lothar sighed, wishing he never held the title of Captain

Madison sat at her station in the waist of the Roger where she was in command of the turrets and Triplex Tactical system. There were four others under her over all command and like most of the battle crew were bored out of their skulls.
Madison an experienced commander of battle troops knew that idle hands often lead to poor performance when the best was needed or could lead to mutiny as it had once already aboard the Roger.
To prevent a repeat of that tragic day Madison had her people engaged in a mock battle contest the winner winning a bottle of Kiester's best Whiskey and the right to not serve guard duty next planet fall.

Meanwhile Madison had been monitoring space around the Roger for any suspicious activity near the Gas Giant that they'd refueled at three hours ago. She was also monitoring the bridge and engineering watching everything with the help of Dodger the Tac's AI and her friend.

"The Captain's appearance of command is suffering again Madi" said Dodger in her headset where only she could hear him.

"I know Dodger but until he loses control of the ship I must support him" she answers back.

Madison's fingers drift across her command board almost effortlessly as she sends a private text to the Captain's station.

(("I found three choice assignments while visiting the TAS (Traveler's Aid Society)
1- The Festival of Flowers on Lender Prime is 5 weeks away and we could stop by Falset 3 where there are vast fields of wild flowers free for the picking and fill our hold with rare beauties which the Lenders would pay handsomely for. Of course we'd need to drop by the Wesner system along the way an pick up a hydro system to keep the cargo alive.

2- Nunu system needs more passenger shuttles to help with the 20 year Migration and the Roger could take 500 a trip at 450 credits a pop and make 6 to 10 trips before Migration's end.
That's 225,000 per trip which could come to 1,350,000 or 2,250,000 million credits, of course the Nunu would stink up the Roger but we could drop off at Winslet and have the Roger overhauled which she needs anyway and they'd freshen her up while the crew Vacations for 2 weeks.

Number 3 is iffy but might net us a reward of 4 million credits and if we make a prize as high as 60 but the Roger's likely to take a pounding as it's a Pirate hunt and repairs might suck up our profits. Also there's the problem that we could spend a couple of months holding our collective Johnsons and never catch the bastards )))

Madison signs off and throws a few curves at her staff to make the Sim seem more like true battle

Lothar saw a flashing light in his private messages terminal, he stood up from his chair and looked over his messages. He saw that Madison the Chief Gunner and Shuttle pilot had sent him a message listing a few potential contracts "Were the crew that desperate for action? Better pick up my act" Lothar thought miserably as he studied the contracts and weighed up the cons and pros. Eventually he decided Contract 2: The Nunu Migration was probably the best option despite the Nunu stinking up the ship and besides that way the crew would get a deserved vacation. Lothar sent a message of thanks back to Madison and told his crew to set coarse for the Nunu System.

Jaren watched all the people go by to their battle stations for mock drills when a large group finally passed through the area he was cleaning he would re clean the area all to happily to clean up in their wake, after he finished mopping his area another group walked by and Jaren saw the crew member he affectionately dubbed "Litterbug" for he would throw a wrapper on the ground every time he came into the area and just like clockwork he threw a wrapper down and Jaren smiled as he picked it up and put it in his trash bucket, being a janitor was fun cleaning was good for the ship, now if someone would invent something that can clean up peoples attitudes.

Kyle McAvoy replaced the cover and booted up the wrist-mounted computer. It was one of those cheap ones that the tourists liked to get their first time in space. They always seemed to have files on at least a half-dozen alien races from the area, as well as other things tourists went for, like trivia on space and starships, as well as personal records of someone's trip.
Kyle had pick it up while dumpster diving, or, more accurately, he had talked Jaren into letting his look through the trash for salvageable electronics and had picked it up. One of their former passengers probably ditched it after the screen quit working, but he easily reconnected the broken wire inside of it and it worked fine. Now it would become an extra 20 credits in his pocket if he could find some starry-eyed tourist who wanted one, though at most ports you practically tripped over at least a few anytime you left the ship, so that wouldn't be hard to do.

The console in front of him beeped and he looked at the Captain's latest orders. The Nunu migration? Kyle had spent the last several months making sure they had every kind of weapon they could ever need, from EMP bombs to his almost-finished moon-cracker (it was currently only up to asteroid-cracker in simulations), and what did the Captain choose to do with it? Transport a bunch of tourists to another system. Sure, it was lucrative enough, but hanging around them made his wish his nose was also artificial so he could turn it off. I'll have to see if the Doc can deaden my sense of smell or I might have a few choice words to say to our passengers about their hygiene issues.
Of course, he wasn't sure if it was a hygiene thing or if it was just something about their natural scent, but that was all the more reason to get the procedure done. It wouldn't be good for one of the crew to insult one of the guests. Besides, the best he could hope for on this journey would be getting to rebuild a reactor, and he didn't want his frustration at the stupidity of the mission to get released in a way that could cost him his job.
He notified the bridge that weapons systems were ready, not that they would need them, and went back to the next salvaged device in his box-o-junk. An old laser pistol.

Lothar received yet another message on his private terminal, he logged back on and read the message. "Good" he said to no one in particular as he began to write a thank you message back to... What was his name? Ah yes, Kyle McAvoy one of the more recent additions to the rag-tag semi-professionals that attempt to run the ship. Lothar stood frozen, staring off into the deep space as he wondered how long before another mutiny.

The Navigator looked up at Lothar as he stood motionless "Sir?" The navigator said "Sir! Shucks looks like the Cap went into another one of his..." The Navigator began to say but did not get to finish as Lothar spun around with a trickle of sweat running down his face "I told you before theres no need to worry, Im perfectly fine" he said shakily as he thought of the crew throwing him out the airlock
