Sure, that’d be great!

This is where I practice and test my more destructive spells.

Not all of them are designed to destroy and kill. To be honest, there are not much of a true variety of those as many are sub-spells of a base one.

We do the same thing in our world for plenty of spells. Not that you don’t have a ton that are made from scratch too.

It’s quite common for combat spells to be made like that.

Usually we start with basic elemental or functional types and spiral out from there.

Most mages don’t know that though. It gets frustrating sometimes!

A lot of the problems arise from them finding their affinity towards a certain kind and disregarding all other kinds.

Most of them also don’t even bother learning what their spells are actually doing under the surface. All they do is memorize cast after cast and suddenly can’t figure out why their “great idea for a transmutation” is fizzling out.

I’ve always said the biggest hindrance to many upcoming generations is their creativity and imagination with magic. That is a prime example that I have seen too many times.

It’s also why I take on very few students…

Had. Three total in my lifetime that I call successful, the rest dropped out as they saw me to be too difficult. It was more that they could not perceive further ahead of them. Stuck in their restrictive ways from home and how they perceive magic to be.

You know what they say about spellcasters thinking in lists. Nobody great ever approached magic like that without some kind of endless mana supply to help them.

Very true, and that thought process made them too cautious to stray from their list.

The worst is when they think that they’ve made some major breakthrough when all they did was smash two spells together with the same symmetry. A, we’ve known about that for thousands of years, B, try doing that with anything else and see how far you get.
