I just hope it makes people not hate the show so much. There's such a crazy divide and I'd rather discussion become more open rather than flame wars starting all the time.

Yeah, but SAO is super polarizing for some reason. When I first saw it, it wasn't as popular and didn't have that kind of hate, so it was kind of mystifying when it developed. I think it was hated because it went mainstream when people didn't think it deserved it.

<Snipped quote by souleaterfan320>

Got it this morning; it has good ratings. Interested in the new movie.

Is the movie based on the manga or does it actually have the potentially to be decent?

Ew. No it's not. There's no way SAO replaced Bleach or Naruto. How are you defining big four?

<Snipped quote by souleaterfan320>

Well for one, it's really similar to .hack, and Log Horizon is the same thing but done better and with a more psychological viewpoint.
Secondly, a LOT of people dislike it because of how much wasted potential it had and how it's like, THE most generic shounen anime of all time. Plus, having the main character be a mary sue and having the best character get shoved away halfway through pissed off a lot of people who were fans until then.
Then there are the people who look at it analytically and wow does it not hold up under scrutiny.
And lastly once people realized that it was just a power fantasy anime, they moved on to better power fantasy anime like To Love Ru or One Piece.

Light novel, whatever. The only time I differentiate between the two is with Raildex since it has both.

I'd like to state for the record that having diabetes sucks, and moreso if you're afraid of needles. Testing blood sucks.

Light novels are actual books. They have words.

"A light novel (ライトノベル raito noberu?) is a style of Japanese novel primarily, but not exclusively, targeting middle- and high-school students (young adult demographic).[1][2] "Light novel" is a wasei-eigo, or a Japanese term formed from words in the English language. Such short, light novels are often called ranobe (ラノベ?)[3] or LN in the West. They are typically not more than 40,000–50,000 words long (the shorter ones being equivalent to a novella in Western publishing terms), are rarely more than a few hundred pages, often have dense publishing schedules, are usually published in bunkobon size (A6, 10.5 cm × 14.8 cm), and are often illustrated,[4] mostly with manga style art. The text is often serialized in anthology magazines before collection in book form."

"and are often illustrated,[4] mostly with manga style art."

The SAO light novels are just shorter manga. Same with Raildex's LNs, though it also has a novel series.
Even Artemis Fowl's LN was just a shorter comic.

Each issue is longer than manga and mostly words.
