Because Youth Camp (that I don't go to) is next week, they're just playing sports. And since physical activity isn't my forte, and I have better things to do than run around in 95°(F) heat, I'm sitting on a couch in the building doing some work.

Ah.

Oh, also, do you have any more critique on the synopses? Anything about the characters that doesn't feel right? Does anything seem flat? I'm particularly worried about Smee's motivation; there's not really much to do for laughter.

Well I feel that having each of them be the only one in their village that isn't somehow the exact opposite of the element that this one being represents is a little bit... Off. Maybe it would work once, but having "the only truth teller in a tribe of liars" and then "the only one to overcome/not behave like that" makes it seem predestined. Or the whole fact of them having to overcome the opposite of their element, if that makes any sense.

The thought behind that is that the spirits of dishonesty, greed, etc. etc. are there to try and hinder the growth of the element, but are inadvertently responsible for the realisation of such. However, what you said does get to me a little. Maybe I could have it such that not all of the members of the group would be all-out cruel, or depressed. Some are closer to the right trait than others. What do you think?

I was thinking that if those spirits caused the whole of Equestria/everything else to fall to one of those (ie every village is affected in some way) and have multiple individuals around the world possess the ability to fulfill the requirements of bearer, then it would make sense. For example, every city/village/group would be under the influence of an anti-element. Of those, certain individuals are more capable of representing the element than others.

That unfortunately doesn't work with the gist of the story, as much as I like that idea. Basically, Gilda takes up Loyalty after the original elements accidentally destroy themselves, and she collects the shards of the other elements. She goes to the Tree of Harmony, finds out that she needs to go to a certain place, and she goes there. When there, she has to learn each trait in order for the shards to reassemble and the element to guide her to the bearer.Maybe the spirits won't affect all of those in each element's village. Instead, some are only partially affected, convinced by peer pressure, although not blatant. They're sometimes truthful, sometimes lying, depending on their thoughts. That'll also make it harder for Gilda to try and find the element without having to figure out the trait.Edit: It predestined. :P

Both are because it's his title. The God King was responsible for shaping the world and creating magic. He also opened the Breach, which released great walls of poisonous Ley, because the world outside of the new Ley boundary was too dangerous for his animals. One day, his wife told him that in her latest clairvoyant dream, she had seen that his son would end up destroying him. This knowledge drove him mad, and so his son had to destroy him. However, the son couldn't overpower his father on his own, so his mother helped them. They sank into the depths of Eternity's Crossing (in the map), and that's why it's filled with storms. The God King was responsible for creating the Elements, and he also created a method for choosing the next bearers, but it would only work after many bearers had been cycled through. So, he predestined quite a few sets of bearers until the method could properly work.

But-but-but the elements grew on a tree!

The show never said they . That's just where they came from. The God King could have grown the tree, if it's supposed to have grown.
