Character name - Jon Welch

Nickname - n/a

Position - Captain of the S.S. Durendal.

Species - Human

Gender - Male

Age - 34

Appearance -

Jon is a well built man as he keeps his body in top shape. His only really noticeable physical feature is the tribal band tattoo on his left forearm.

Height - 6'1

Weight - 215 pounds

Apparel - During missions, Jon wears his standard issue combat armor. The armor is not all that different from what the usual human soldiers wear, his just has more scratches and dents on it. He thinks those add more "flavor" to the armor. It has a back and hip holster along with a sheath for his knife. The armor has a standard issue energy shield which recharges if it suffers too much damage.

Out of combat Jon wears grey or white t shirts with dark blue combats and boots.

Weapons -
LAR Assault rifle - One of the assault rifles available to E.S.C. marines, the weapon has a 50 round magazine which fires concentrated energy rounds. The weapon is reloaded through energy packs. The gun has two firing mods, fully automatic and semi automatic, it also has an attached scope.

TOR Pistol - Standard issue among the E.S.C. military, the TOR can be seen in the hands of many across the galaxy. It is an excellent, easy to use semi automatic pistol that fires bullets from a fifteen round magazine.

Combat knife - Simple but effective, if he's fighting an enemy hand to hand he won't hesitate to unsheathe the blade and drive it into a vulnerable point on the enemy.

Equipment -
Communications device which he places in his ear. It allows him quick and easy communications with his crew.
Signal flares.
Dog tags.

Skills - Jon is a natural leader, able to rally his troops to follow him all the way through the mission. He can get the best out of those assigned under his command and accepts nothing less. He's a very competent marksman with his rifle as well as a skilled tactician on the battlefield. He can hold his own in combat with his fists, but always prefers to have a rifle in his hands. He can also fly a starfighter, while not exceptional at it, he is an effective pilot.

Weaknesses - Jon is a human, he has no special enhancements or powers. With enough punishment he will go down. He also has a tough time making decisions involving children.

Powers - n/a

Likes - Guns, working out, company of friends, space, beaches, nice weather, reading, history and being in charge.

Dislikes - Crew dying under his command, smoking, drinking, slavers, bandits, sly merchants and torture.

Fears - Heights and failing on the mission which would result in a war which would kill billions.

Personality - Jon is a friendly but driven man, he always puts the mission ahead of everything else but makes time to get to know his crew. He values all of his friends and crew, always trying to drive the full effort out of every member of his ship. This is partly why he was chosen to captain the S.S. Durendal

Biography -
Jon Welch was born in London, England on Earth in the year 2220. His father a soldier who was stationed on another colony a couple weeks after Jon's birth. His childhood was unremarkable, his father fought in the Rahq wars, he was medically discharged after suffering a severe lower body injury which destroyed both of his legs. But thankfully, his body was saved thanks to modern medical science, specifically augmentations which allowed him to walk. Jon was a solid student who got into a good college, graduating, then immediately joining officer training school, his goal to become a spaceship captain.

He went the whole eight required years, finishing at the top of his class. He graduated and was placed as the first officer of the S.S. Madrid, a frigate which patrolled the colonies. His time there was mostly uneventful, the most notable events being him leading the fight against battalions of slavers and bandits. The captain of the vessel valued Welch's contributions and Welch himself learned much from the captain.

After four years on the ship, Welch was chosen to captain the S.S. Durendal, some higher ranking E.S.C. members believing that he was too inexperienced to lead a mission of such magnitude. These doubters were outnumbered by the supporters of him as captain. Welch himself was nervous about the mission, but never let that be known, covering it up with how eager he was to get it going.

Name: Astra
Nicknames: To be determined
Position: Science officer
Species: Faira
Gender: Female
Age: 70
Appearance: Pic
Height: 198 cm
Weight: 55 kg

Apparel:
- Special occasions: A Faira dress uniform with the rank of specialist
- Otherwise: Powered exoskeleton armor. Circa 2 cm thick, augments her strength to handle up to 7Gs. It has a rather oversized helmet to accommodate her antennas.

Weapons: Laser sidearm, wrist mounted plasma blasters on the exosuit.

Equipment:
- Exosuit
-- Shielding: As far as they’ve seen, Faira possess the best shielding of any race. The suit version forms a bubble around her and is capable of withstanding quite a beating, however, the miniature version can only sustain fire for about two minutes before overloading and requiring five minute cooldown.
-- Scientific gear (Suit ‘backpack’): Anything a scientist could need, including mechanical tools, pocket spectroscope, a computer and samplers.
-- Suit AI: Based on organic computing, Faira AIs can be very helpful with the menial tasks like calculations and running equipment, however their intelligence does not reach that of their creators.

Skills:
- Knowledge in any field of science. Due to her species’ natural intelligence and being lucky enough to survive this long, she had ample time to study the universe
- Fast learner

Weaknesses:
- Extremely fragile body. A punch form a human can potentially be fatal
- Can be incapacitated by sensory overload at times
- Terrible healing

Powers:
- Extremely intelligent
- Can survive on raw materials for food
- Resistant to heat, radiation and chemicals

Likes:
- Warm places
- Games of wit

Dislikes:
- Loud noises, potent smells, unannounced touches

Fears:
- Being injured

Personality:
Despite being a scientist, Astra is not nerdy, although she can enter a ‘walking encyclopedia mode’. She is friendly unless someone is a complete douchebag and quite tolerant. Do not anger her though, because her revenge will be carefully planned and executed flawlessly, resulting in your humiliation in some, albeit childish way.

Biography:
Born as a daughter of Fleet Admiral Cygnus, Astra had high hopes placed in her. She was given the best education possible due to her above average intelligence, even for her own race. Pretty soon she climbed through the Faira academic ranks, inventing many great things, including the superb shields of Faira ships. She also had a hand in designing several classes of their warships.

As a member of a species that only recently made contact with anyone else in the universe, Astra is curious about everything. Of course, when the opportunity presented itself to learn from and about multiple species, she requested from ehr government to be assigned to the Durendal. Despite not really wanting to let one of their top scientists throw herself into danger, the potential gains in the end outweighed the risks and she joined the forming crew.
Wall of text detailed description
Species name: Faira
Appearance: See Astra’s profile

Powers:
- Heat, radiation and chemical resistance

Strengths:
- High intelligence

Weaknesses:
- Fragile constitution

Age scale: Up to 250 human years

Culture:
The Faira are a matriarchal society. To an outsider, they might even appear monogendered. Being busy with their own survival throughout pretty much all of their existence, Faira developed little to no culture. What they have serves mainly for education, such as documentary movies or literature.

They prefer to relax physically in their free time rather than seeking food for the mind. There are facilities on each larger ship that are built to simulate their native environment, which they enjoy deeply as the environment they can maintain on their ships is vastly different, and while habitable, not at all pleasant to them.

Due to their frail nature, no competitive sports ever existed in Faira society, instead replaced by multiple games of skill and wit. The favorite is a simulation game where a player takes the role of a god and guides a selected civilization on it’s development.

As far as design goes, Faira are fond of shades of red and metallic grey for colors. Their buildings used to have large flat bases with spires towering form them, something that carried over to their ship designs, which are generally flat slabs with functional parts mounted on them rather than integrated into the design itself. Faira do not wear clothing in the usual sense - due to their fragile nature, they took up to wearing powered exoskeletons with protective abilities. Only high ranking officers and diplomatic officials wear uniforms normally, most others only taking them on for special occasions.

Homeworld:
Systems:
Faira nebula (Current) - A hostile gas cloud that is full of radiation and storms that generate strong EM pulses. The faira can only survive here because of their state of the art shielding systems. In return, they are nearly perfectly hidden within the nebula, as it interferes with most sensors and the visibility is very low. A remnant of a supernova, the nebula is rich in gasses, but the only source of ores are the remnants of one planet shattered into a tenuous asteroid belt. In the middle is a neutron star - the source of the deadly radiation.

Faira (Formerly) - The Faira star was a red giant that was at the end of it’s life by the time the Faira species reached into space. Evolving in this system gives the Faira high resistance to heat and their sense of sight is most sensitive to the red part of the spectrum. The Faira can see the part of the infrared spectrum as well, essentially granting them heat vision.

Inhabited planet(s):
Faira’Erea (Formerly) - The planet was the closest one to the star by the time Faira evolved. The planet’s life was based on organic silicon, and the Faira are no different, while the crust was also rich in iridium, iron and carbon. Copper and aluminum were practically nonexistent. Faira’Erea’s gravity was about 0,8 of Earth’s and the planet had no day/night cycle or satellites. The atmosphere was composed mostly of oxygen and nitrogen, and the planet had no hydrosphere.

Space nomads (Current) - The Faira now live on spaceships, searching for a planet that would accommodate them. The trouble is that the Faira evolved on a relatively rare planet under even less likely circumstances. It is likely they will forever be condemned to living in space, but they are adaptable people.

Rarities
- There is only a million of them
- The only ones you’ll come into contact with are females
- Faira live on spaceships

Government type: Military junta / Socialism

Strength: Pretty much the smartest and most adaptable people encountered

Backstory:
The Faira have evolved on the planet they call Faira’Erea during it’s sun’s last phase of life. As such the life form evolved to a very specific set of conditions. Due to their rather extreme intelligence, they were able to study their star quite early in their technological development. Realizing the threat, they pooled all of their resources in a last ditch effort to escape their untimely destruction.

It was in the nick of time that they discovered an ancient wreck on their planet - a relic ship left there by a civilization long extinct. Through examining the relic, they managed to learn about the jump points that link star systems together and reverse engineer the FTL drive, along with some basics of shielding and most of all weapons - a concept alien to them thus far, as the Faira didn’t have time to wage war if they wanted to survive.

Seeing the evidence they might not be alone in the universe though, the Faira prepared for the eventuality, and although their escape plan only involved what would come to be known as the Exodus fleet, they came up with blueprints for warships and modified their harbor ship accordingly.

Leaving just in the nick of time, the fleet managed to get through the only known jump point in Faira just as the star begun to collapse. The initial plan called for the Exodus fleet to find a suitable planet and then evacuate more of the Faira. Instead, they found themselves in a very unfriendly nebula, with the jump point collapsing behind them due to the supernova on the other side.

Now exiles without a home and threatened with extinction, the Faira were forced to take extraordinary measures to ensure their species’ survival. The military took over with the captains of the six ships taking on the roles of the governors. Strict birth control was established and most of the socialistic laws from before the exodus like healthcare for the disabled had to be removed. Under the new circumstances, their economical system simply couldn’t continue. Thus the Faira adapted socialism out of sheer necessity.

After a few rough decades, the situation stabilized. Now with sustainable population, the Faira begun developing new technologies and building more ships that would allow them to expand into new systems and hopefully one day find a new home and return to their former glory. They made first contact with the humans by jumping the node between Faira nebula and Sol that is anchored between Earth’s and Venus’ orbits.

You put a lot of work into these, I can tell.

Species name - The Shuunai

Appearance - Shuunai at their earliest stages (5 - 20 Years)
Shuunai at Later stages in life (25 - 60 Years)

Powers - Plant-Like regeneration, Manipulation of vine like appendages on their body, their bodies contain elements that can be used in medicine,

Strengths - Durable, Can easily survive in climates uncomfortable for other species, naturally talented as producing medicines and herbs for healing wounds, they also smell very nice and freshen the air around themselves.

Weaknesses - Extreme cold and extreme heat weaken them, Needs a steady source of clean water to sustain themselves,

Age scale - 50 - 60 Years

Culture - Shuunai are a very religious and pacifist race. You see, a Shunaai is born from a seed like a tree like most plants, but unlike most plants they have their own sentience. Eventually they will begin to feel tired and slow. Their roots will begin to form and their limbs will become like bark. Eventually a Shuunai will be reduced to being a tree identical to the many trees of their home world. In order to cope with their eventual end of intelligence they have formed various religious practices around the event, and view becoming "One with the Elder Forest" an honor above any other.

Shuunai are generally very accepting of people visiting their home and will welcome them with open arms. However, many of them are staunchly opposed to ever leaving, and view any Shuunai who decides to leave their home as exiled. Shuunai who exists outsides of planet Sheldin are uncommon. Even while outside their home world they will inevitably become a tree. A Shuunai tree is a pleasant smelling plant that fetches extremely high prices among noblemen. While this generally wouldn't be a big deal, Shuunai trees produce Shunaai young. Some Shuunai are well taken care of by the owner of the tree, but many end up being sold. They are a sizable portion of the Rahq slave drive, especially since they are a self sustaining population that can live off of nothing but sunlight and water.

Homeworld - Sheldin

Rarity - There are only a single colony of Shuunai as sentient beings, but there are plenty of forests created by their passing. On their own planet they are very common.

Government type - Monarchy,

Strength - Doesn't involve themselves in the struggles of other races often. They happily allow species ravaged by war a home on their planet, and will heal nearly anyone that enters their home. They only allow Rahq and Prime unaffiliated with their government to enter due to the previously mentioned slave drivers. An assault on their home planet is very difficult to pull off since the planet provides perfect conditions for Shuunai regeneration, and killing them would require killing all plant life on their planet. As long as a single tree on their planet is alive and in good health new Shuunai will always be born.

Backstory - The first race they had ever encountered was the Rahq, and it wasn't pretty. Fire, deforestation, everything. The Shuunai were resilient and defended themselves as best they could, but they weren't as experienced in war. What they did have was sheer numbers and resilience. Their fighting went on for 5 years, but from the Rahq's point of view they were just a very feisty natural resource. They lost some ships, but they only left when harvesting Shuunai plants stopped being profitable and went somewhere else, leaving their kind wary of other species.

That is until they met human kind a short time later. The Shuunai remained hidden for some time, but instead of warriors armed to the teeth they found interested scientists, people studying their forests in pursuit of knowledge. That was when the Shuunai introduced themselves with open arms, much to humanity's surprise. Both Humankind and Shuunai-kind learned much about the true nature of life from one another. As an entire species they never attained space travel, but thanks to the humans the few Shuunai who wanted to explore the stars got the opportunity aboard human vessels.

=====================================

Character name - Sham-Usfarl

Nickname - Shamus (Easier to pronounce in day to day conversation and he likes the Ring)

Position - Chief Medical Officer

Species - Shuunai

Gender - N/A

Age - 28 (Middle aged relative to humans)

Appearance - The differences in appearance of his kind are hard to spot to outsiders not familiar with them. Their scent, however, is entirely unique. He has been described as smelling like baked cookies with chocolate chips made of daisies. A weird combination, but other species will find them much easier to identify by scent and tone of voice.

Height - 5"7'

Weight - 268 Pounds (Plant Matter is heavy)

Apparel - Shamus nearly always dons his lab coat, which has been modified to open up should he require use of his dextrous vines. Armor isn't practical for Shuunai since it hinders their ability to regenerate so he wears the lightest of armor plates possible. Shamus does keep latex gloves with him at all times in accordance with human medical standards and uses them when necessary.

Weapons - A standard issue pistol. He wouldn't have brought it at all if the military didn't pressure him so hard to arm himself. He will generally not use it but he decided to drag it along just in case.

Equipment - An electronic device with a needle for injecting vaccines and other similar medicines. Can be used to control the dosage precisely if required.
- A blood sample. Shamus can take a small sample of blood and analyze it for serious things like toxins, or can simply test your blood sugar. He has more advanced blood test equipment in his work room.
- An electronic stitching device. Can be applied over a wound in order to seal it. Not a permanent solution, and the seal will eventually give way unless the patient is admitted to a hospital or medical station.

Skills - Trained in medicine, skilled at diagnosing problems and treating them, a good negotiator. He will often try his best to deescalate high stress situations.

Weaknesses - Untrained in combat and a lousy shot. Not good at giving commands, nor is he very good at handling complex machinery he hasn't been formally trained to use.

Powers - Regeneration, Medicinal Properties,

Likes - Poetry, Biology, Human Politics, Cleaning (It's like a hobby to him)

Dislikes - The cold, Slavery,

Fears - The inky blackness of space. Prefers to cover up the windows of his workspace. Also averse to bright flames like his species is naturally inclined.

Personality - Shamus is an easy to get along with individual who will probably take an immediate fascination for you. He can come off as pushy with all of the questions he tends to ask, but he is just enjoys learning about the lives of other races more then some are comfortable with. He grew up as a pacifist like the vast majority of his homeworld, but has since then learned that a bit of violence now and then is worth doing if it means protecting your loved ones. He takes his job as a doctor very seriously, and will always push people to do things that are better for their health much to the rest of the crew's annoyance.

Biography - Like most of his kind outside of Rahq slave camps, Shamus was born on planet Sheldin and spent his young life with his peers. He spent a large amount of time with the friendly human colonies on that planet and loved talking to humans about their culture. He was fascinated by what he heard. Shamus was proud of his culture, but after spending 20 years of his life there he knew all that he really felt like knowing about his own kin.

Diplomatic ties between the Shuunai and the Humans was very healthy, but Shamus wasn't to see if it could be improved upon. If his kind could find a way to sway the intergalactic community in a positive way rather then by being passive healers. He saw the oppertunity to leave his planet when a Vaxir freight ship was making it's routine supply delivery and took it. Shamus then when to a human institute to study medicine and became an officially recognized doctor.

It didn't take long for him to get himself into the military. He was one of the very few of his kind to enroll, but they had a reputation for resilience and as doctors so it only took a few strings being pulled to get him through. Since joining he has met some resilience; people found him a bit too inhuman and strange to feel comfortable having him operate on them. But Shamus always did his best to bond with his shipmates and earn their trust. He's gotten along swimmingly with people... 4 out of 5 times. He doesn't care to mention the 1 time he did not.

Shamus was enrolled on the S.S. Durendal as a sign of diplomacy with the Shuunai, but his impressive record for treating patients was the real reason he was allowed to serve.

They are a sizable portion of the Rahq slave drive, especially since they are a self sustaining population that can live off of nothing but sunlight and water. Homeworld - SheldinRarity - There are only a single colony of Shuunai as sentient beings, but there are plenty of forests created by their passing. On their own planet they are very common.Government type - Monarchy, Strength - Doesn't involve themselves in the struggles of other races often. As an entire species they never attained space travel, but thanks to the humans the few Shuunai who wanted to explore the stars got the opportunity aboard human vessels.=====================================Character name - Sham-UsfarlNickname - Shamus (Easier to pronounce in day to day conversation and he likes the Ring)Position - Chief Medical OfficerSpecies - ShuunaiGender - N/AAge - 28 (Middle aged relative to humans)Appearance - The differences in appearance of his kind are hard to spot to outsiders not familiar with them. Their scent, however, is entirely unique. He has been described as smelling like baked cookies with chocolate chips made of daisies. A weird combination, but other species will find them much easier to identify by scent and tone of voice. Height - 5"7' Weight - 268 Pounds (Plant Matter is heavy)Apparel - Shamus nearly always dons his lab coat, which has been modified to open up should he require use of his dextrous vines. Can be used to control the dosage precisely if required.- A blood sample. Shamus can take a small sample of blood and analyze it for serious things like toxins, or can simply test your blood sugar. He has more advanced blood test equipment in his work room.- An electronic stitching device. Powers - Regeneration, Medicinal Properties, Likes - Poetry, Biology, Human Politics, Cleaning (It's like a hobby to him)Dislikes - The cold, Slavery, Fears - The inky blackness of space. Prefers to cover up the windows of his workspace. Also averse to bright flames like his species is naturally inclined.Personality - Shamus is an easy to get along with individual who will probably take an immediate fascination for you. Durendal as a sign of diplomacy with the Shuunai, but his impressive record for treating patients was the reason the real reason he was allowed to serve.

What's the extent of her cloaking power? How long does it last? Is is total invisibility or just active camouflage?

The only issues I have with the race and species is how hostile they seem to other races and that they actually employ slavery. That might cause some issues if one them are added as the crew. I feel like humanity would avoid them as allies. They also wouldn't agree to letting the species take some of the Rahq as slaves as the E.S.C. is very strictly against slavery. Plus taking that many Rahq might even lead to them becoming more agressive which could lead to a full scale war which is the exact opposite of what the mission is trying to accomplish.

Still "aggressive" (more hostile to outsiders because they think they're better overall, think Japanese for years), but now have realized it is in their best judgement to listen to the humans, which vastly outman, outgun, and out-ally the Kaarme-ihmisen. Is that better or should I tweak it some more?
