Any suggestions? I would just like to do something where I can take my time and post. Casual is too much "Post several times a day and every post needs three paragraphs". Well, I have a muthafuckin' job(working over 40 hours a week) and a mutha fuckin' life, so, not possible. I like to think a long time about the post before making it. I don't mind making long posts, so, HELLO ADVANCED.

So, I am asking for advice on moving into Advanced RP'ing. That would be cool.

Just go. There's nothing stopping you. If you can already do long posts and what not you are more than aptly equipped to handle advanced.

Really though, there's not much advice anyone could legitimately provide you until you go to advanced, RP there for a while, and then figure out if you need to ask any questions.

Honestly, just go for it bro. If you can meet the three paragraph minimum or whatever the GM sets forth, then I'm sure you'll have no problem adjusting to it.

This... all this, seriously.
Sure some gms want more than the official 2 paragraph minimum but many are content if 2 is all there is. To be quite honest though if you think about your posts and put a fair amount of effort in as it sounds like you do already then you shouldnt have any trouble in advanced, it really isn't the death-trap a lot of people think it is.

Mostly what everyone else said. The skill barrier between Casual and Advanced is largely an illusion, and if you're used to doing three paragraph posts regularly you're already operating above the minimum standards of the section.

The one thing I would add is that Advanced section elitism is real, albeit less prevalent than people make it sound whenever they talk about it. If you get some twat telling you you're awful because of some grammar mistakes, or because you're not writing a novella for each post, or whatever, don't let it discourage you. The minimum for an Advanced post is two paragraphs and coherent writing ability (says so right in the subforum description), and anyone who says otherwise is a deluded idiot. A GM may ask for more in their game, and that's perfectly fine, but the elitists tend to hold the foolish notion that their arbitrary personal standards are the Advanced section standards that everyone needs to adhere too or else they're awful. Those types are a tiny minority though, so you might go a long time without encountering any, but it's better to be forewarned well in advance than to be blindsided.

Hi Jorick!^-^! I like what you wrote up ^there and agree with ya toooo~~!! But. Deluded bunny idiot here. ;D So like where does it say two paragraph minimum for Advanced? Like this is what I read and saw in the description... and it sounds rather hardcore and intimidating:

Strict, highly moderated roleplay with elevated standards. Advanced RP focuses on longer posts that include character development and coherent writing ability.

But with a bit of experience in the advanced forums it's not so bad at all! Peeps are nice enough and 3-5 paragraphs seems to be about standard posts. But yeah, I have had one encounter with elitism. But wut-evs. I still likes it there.^-^!!

Hi Warrior in the Shadows!! WitS! xDDD I likes slower moving RPs tooooo~~!!

So yeah, Advanced RPs seem to move slower and at a pace that suits busy-busy-busy lives. And I notice that peeps tend to write a whole bunch more that 3-5 paragraphs too. So my advice is to just make sure you are the type that enjoys reading a lot of description from everyone before your post and that you should gets all ready to filter out the prettiness and fluffy parts to make a coherent response to it all. Like maybe you'll be in a RP where peeps do 3-5 paragraphs per post, but if not, just be ready, k? ^-^!! So yeah, like err'body said, you should be fine soooooo... good luck out there in advanced, right? ~Later~~!!

And proofread. Spellcheck doesn't pick up on everything.

But yeah. Otherwise, just try it.

It used to be in the advanced description before guildfall that the section was a 2 paragraph minimum. and prior to guildfall when I was a mod I tried to get the description changed to specifically remove the 'strict, highly moderated' bit, because frankly its not moderated any more than any other section and most GM's aren't overly strict about it themselves. so the wording really does send the wrong message and scares a lot of people off from trying advanced in the first place.

Gat's totally got the right of this.

The reality is that RP moderation is handled by the GM themselves, unless for some reason an actual guild rule is broken for content or similar -- the sort of thing that endangers Adsense, for example.

When we do step into an RP, it's at the request of the GM to clear out disruptions of the RP, such as a disgruntled poster of some sort where asking them to leave the thread alone has not worked. Otherwise, we do not go around policing the RP's because people do that responsibly on their own.

I know that in the past, people have made Advanced out to be some sort of well-guarded concentration camp of elitist snobbery, but it's really not.
