Not that the US Government hasn't totally taken measures to prevent them from ever getting into El Paso, at least I hope they have. But hey, even if they haven't, and ISIS does hop the border, guess what? Texans have guns! 2nd amendment FTW!

No, but in all seriousness, this is a little bit more than concerning to me. Even if I live about 500 miles from the border, I know there are plenty of people who are a stone's throw away from it, at least one of whom is part of this forum (looking at you, Smiral). Even if we're not counting El Paso, I'm pretty sure at least a few people on this forum, besides myself, live in Texas, and if you do, I'll definitely say you should watch your back, because shit's getting real. I don't think you have to fear any large scale attacks or anything. Mexico is known for its christian faith, not Islamic ones. The amount of recruiting there would be limited at best. Isis is busy fighting where they have substantial support. Usborder is also alot harder to hop then say, Syriak/Iraqian one.

I'm not 100% sure how valid the report is. If it were true, the bigger news sources would be all over it. That is BIG. The news sources that pop up on Google are mainly local ones that are super far right that turn it into a "thanks obama u suck give us your strategy to combat ISIS" type thing. I'm glad that Homeland Security and the other departments are taking it seriously and taking the necessary precautions, but I don't think that it will be anything major. If so, we'll nip it in the bud.

But if ISIS is in fact there, it can't be terribly big at the moment, which means they probably don't have the resources or cash to bankroll a full scale attack. ISIS' strategy at the moment is to focus on taking over the Middle East and the Arab world. Of course we'll stop them from doing that, but the next thing they want is the actual world. If anyone is putting the cart before the horse and spreading themselves too thin, it's ISIS.

Plus just about anything they try in Mexico is bound to be met with a swift end since they lack the public support back home. The only chance I see them having is finding an Islamic community and then somehow convincing them all to go so extreme that even the extremists step back and go "Woah, that's extreme".

More likely, ISIS is doing a common tactic amongst guerilla fighters and terrorist organizations: Setting up a global network with checkpoints and outposts to smuggle people, goods, and other such commerce generating activities. After all, not even terrorism is free: something has gotta buy those ak-47's. Like drugs shipped with cartels up into the states. It's also an effective way to recruit more educated, world knowledgeable people. Canada has had this kind of issue before as well, with certain Islamic minorities feeling isolated and the more extreme among them siding with terrorist organizations that they believe represent their interests, often being indoctrinated into them with images of paradises nobody has seen.

I would not panic about any kind of real assault, though now that we know, we might be able to curb potential market growth for their products.

They are coming in by the truck loads. They are riding on top of trains and jumping over the fences on the border.

It may be harder than Syriak/Iraqian border but it still extremely easy to do.

I currently live about 4 hours from El Paso (in Albuquerque, NM), and actually just about a month ago visited El Paso for the first time in my life. My boyfriend grew up in El Paso, and his dad and grandmother live there. Driving through El Paso and looking across the way to Juarez was really surreal for me. Having grown up in a small town in the midwest myself, I wasn't used to seeing anything even close to that. It was both sad and frightening. My boyfriend told me that when he and his friends were younger, they'd always go party in Juarez, since the drinking age is 18. I guess, back in the day, Juarez was the place to be on a Friday night. Eventually, things got worse though obviously, and now no Americans go over there that regularly. It's just so unsafe. Me, being a blonde woman who obviously would stand out, I was told I should never cross the border. And now ISIS. Scary times.

Al-Qaeda's attack resulted in America essentially flattening two governments in the middle east. If ISIS got a few jabs in, I wouldn't doubt that would score a casus belli for the people to have one, decisive, violent strike that would break ISIS' hand. One does not simply anger the United States.

As I said earlier though, I think it's far more likely they're simply using Mexico as an outpost to smuggle goods rather than a staging ground for any kind of assault.
