intro: As Sharphorn was going down the hill towards the "March wardens" caravan, Thorgili leaned against a rock on top of the hill and pointed the barrels of his gun towards the caravan, not because of aggression, but in order to cover for Sharphorn if anything happens, the hammers of Thorgili's gun were up and he was ready to fire immediately if needed.
Runa moved to a covered position with her weapon out and ready for action, she was ready to attack if needed as well..

GM POST: The halflings upon their riding dogs turned the bend in the road and immediately halted as they spotted Sharphorn, and while one warily took the composite short bow off his shoulder and put an arrow in it as he guided his mount to run a loop back the way they had come before turning it back to face the minotaur again from a greater distance away, the other raised a whistle and blew it twice whilst holding those holes that rendered the sound it made, inaudible to most creatures except of course the riding dogs. The remainder of the riding dogs with the caravan back down the road heard the sounds and lunged toward themdown the road. Over a half dozen of the halflings mounted on the dogs however, gave their riding dogs their head, while the rest restrained theirs and held them back with the caravan, causing those dogs to whine excitedly for want to run with the pack. Several of the dogs without riders, all of which wore harnesses that bore long leashes held by a few of the humans and dwarves, tugged and pulled at those leashes, one of which slipped free from its holder's grasp. None of these trained dogs barked or howled however, as they dashed down the road toward the sound of the whistle.

Nodding to Sharphorn's request that they cover him, Runa crouched behind a nearby boulder to Thorgili's right, pulling her bow from her back and nocking an arrow from her quiver just in case things turned sour. As small as she was, the large boulder concealed her from the road perfectly, although that meant that she had to lean off to the left in order to see around the obstacle and watch what was transpiring down the slope.

Sharphorn was standing with his back towards the hill and his front towards the caravan, he was an experienced warrior and therefore never underestimated an opponent, even if that was a hobbit, he thoroughly protected his front with his shield and held his morningstar in a "ready" position just in case.
He was going to introduce himself and ask the hobbits to join the caravan for a while, but then he noticed the humans and dwarves holding the dog leashes..
"Are those your slaves?" Asked Sharphorn as he nodded towards the humans and dwarves.

GM POST: "Nonsense," replied a darker, well conditioned male halfling who'd blown the whistle, looking back as he was joined up front by the seven other halflings on riding dogs, and one riderless riding dog, which approached the minotaur with a snarl and raised hair. "I must apologize for the animal, its young and has yet finish its training. As for your question, we don't keep slaves of any kind. Those behind us are just merchants and their mercenaries looking to travel in the company of others. These lands demand caution, and our company helps protect our trade routes, such as this one between our lands southwest of here and the port of Cloak Wood. I'm Errant Marshal Aerostone, and we would appreciate it if you would allow us to continue along this road without conflict. If you're alone and just looking for something, perhaps we can help. With whom do I speak?"

Thorgili watched vigilantly from his perch behind the boulder waiting for any sign of trouble. The dwarf's sight shifted from target to target trying to pick out the leader of the halfings. As Sharphorn approached the halfings he noticed one of them drawing their bow and knocking a arrow. Tensing up thorgili shifted his sights onto the little halfing's head preparing to pick off the bugger if he tried anything stupid. But soon his attention was diverted towards the bend in the road as he heard the whines and barks of several dogs one of which had gotten free from his keeper. Thorgilis finger began to squeeze but he soon let off as he saw one of the halfing begin to talk with sharphorn. Turning towards runa he pointed to the halfing "Oi that one there talking to sharphorn i think that buggers the leader." The dwarf mumbled as he once again turned his sights on the little man.

Having also noticed the male halfling conversing with Sharphorn, Runa nodded. Most caravans wouldn't have sent a merchant to talk with someone on behalf of the entire caravan, let alone someone as unintentionally intimidating as Sharphorn. She was just glad that the halfling had the sense to ask questions first and shoot later, only if necessary of course. She had seen too many people react with violence to her friend's appearance. As such, she understood Thorgili's jumpiness perfectly. All of her muscles felt like they were on the brink of exploding into action, a kind of nervous energy she usually only experienced when the owners of the house she was breaking into came home early. Wishing that Sharphorn would hurry up and give them the signal that everything was okay, Runa kept her arrow nocked on the bow, ready to let loose at a moment's notice.

Being a minotaur, Sharphorn was a little hot tempered, but he wasn't stupid, seeing that the caravan members aren't slave owners he immediately calmed down and his smile returned to his lips.
"I apologize for the misunderstanding" said Sharphorn in a friendly tone of voice, "I'm Sharphorn, me and my friends would like to join your caravan and travel together to the city, in return we will provide the caravan with extra protection" at this point Sharphorn looked confidently into the hobbit's eyes and added "Believe me sir, it is very safe to travel in company of a minotaur and his experienced friends, we can handle any trouble!" , after finishing the last sentence Sharphorn smashed a nearby rock that resembled somewhat to a trolls head with his morningstar in order to fortify his words, he then looked back at the hobbit and waited for his answer..

GM Post: Sequestered in the foremost wagon, Lyneesi Greenwind had awoken when the caravan pulled to a halt and some of the riding dogs started wining. It wasn't but a few moments until she sensed a feeling of alarm through the empathic link she shared with her familiar, Meanbeak. The spry blonde halfling scurried over crates of fabric and barrels of pipeweed, arming herself with her spyglass as she went to peek out from a flap woven in the wagon's canvas covering. She watched her familiar's movements from afar, as the crow flew in in a figure eight above a nearby hill. She immediately hastened out of the wagon beside its driver, to cast a cantrip that would enable her to whisper a message to her brother, Weskus, who was seated about thirty yards ahead of her, with the group of riding dogs that had stayed with the caravan.

"What is happening? I think Meanbeak has spotted hidden trouble ahead." Lyneesi whispered to him. "I can see a large minotaur on the far side of the bend. Seems the marshal is busy talking to him, or her... I can't tell from here." Weskus whispered back with a start. He then spoke to the others beside him without turning his head. "My sister's familiar might have spotted something we haven't seen yet. Signal the others behind us to ready their weapons, Vandru. The comparatively large, muscular male halfling with the clean shaven and tattooed head, nodded in response and relayed hand signals to the caravan drivers to ready their weapons.

Weskus and Vandru, the contingent of dog riders about them, and the caravan that was still parked on the far side of the hill that blinded the bend in the road, armed themselves for the worst, while the marshal Karlvar Aerostone and the foremost contingent of dog riders who could overhear his conversation with Sharphorn, scanned the nearby hills, coniferous trees and exposed rock formations to see if they could find those friends the minotaur spoke of. After they witnessed the Sharphorn's display of strength, the marshal replied steadily, "Sounds reasonable to me. How many friends are we talking about?"

(Guys, do to the fact there is not much for Thorgili and Runa to do while Sharphorn is negotiating, I think I'll just finish the conversation now and give you more options to actually do stuff, hope it's Ok)

"See for yourself ", answered Sharphorn and gave Thorgili and Runa a sign to join him down the hill.

Seeing the sign thorgili slowly pulled his trigger and let donw his hammer putting the gun on half cock as to not seem threatened by the halfings.Standing up thorgili keenly navigate down the rocky slope of the hill down to the hobbits and approached the halfing marshal. "Greetings little one, it seems yah gots yerself quite the party ere as for why my kin need your rpotectionIi ant sure but for them to seek out help of a surface dwelling race such as yerself you either are quite skilled or these roads are teeming with cutthroats. Haha!" Thorgili laughin jokingly slapp ing the halfing on the back.

Karlvar shrugged with a nod and smile to the dwarf, "I wouldn't say they nessecarily need it... but it does show solidarity to those not wishing to incur the wrath of more than one people at a time. Gives more of us a chance to relax and maintain correspondance while trading at the same time. Besides, this road is one of few lifelines in this region, and since we already share its use, we might as well align our schedules." They welcomed the trio to join them, and offered them water from their skins, as the marshal gave those behind them the signal to stand down and continue business as normal. "Nice piece of hardware by the way. Don't see too many of those in just anyone's hands around here. Typically I've only come aross them on the western extent of our patrols, near the shipyards and ports where the humans fit their vessels with cannons."

Seeing the sign that it was okay to rejoin Sharphorn, Runa removed her arrow from the bow and placed it back in her quiver before putting the bow on her back. Though they appeared to be friendly now, it was hard to say that they would remain so if she came down the grassy hill with a bow ready to shoot. Once that was taken care of, she stood and made her way down the hill behind Thorgili, who appeared to be at ease among those he had just been ready to kill. As always, large crowds made Runa wary, so she hung back a bit while Thorgili and Sharphorn talked to the halfling marshal about the possibility of traveling together for a while. The halfling appeared to be okay with the idea, which Runa supposed was a good thing. She would have avoided the caravan altogether, but she was willing to concede to Sharphorn and Thorgili's decisions about such things. They were typically better about... well, anything that didn't involve stealth or theft. Not to mention that they were the only two people she considered to be her friends. It wouldn't have done to have abandoned them over something so simple.

As Thorgili and Runa walked towards him, Sharphorn tried to stay between them and the caravan at all times in case some of the hobbits will decide to shoot towards them despite the agreement, "Those are my friends!" said the minotaur proudly and nodded towards Thorgili and Runa, " we will provide you with extra protection on the way to the city as agreed and also would like to solve other issues for you, as long as the assignment is honorable and the reward is good!" he added.
Sharphorn understood that in order to achieve their goals, they would need gold and lots of it..

GM Shortcut Post: The caravan arrived in Cloak Wood at midday. The wagons were taken to the warehouses and docks so they could be offloaded. The horses were taken to the stables to be tended, and the riding dogs were taken into kennels, or lashed to their exteriors. Most of the halflings disseminated into various groups to laze and have lunch and go fishing, which would probably take a hour or two. The humans took their leave to head home to their dwellings in and around town itself, while the dwarves stayed with their carefully concealed cargo, which they planned on shipping across the inner sea of the Hadeshorn to the various kingdoms beyond. Such as it was, our trio of heroes were given leave and liberty by the locals, to explore the town itself for the afternoon.

GM Post: The settlement of Cloak Wood was built in a cleared expanse, surrounded by forests and bordered to the southeast by a high rocky cliff overlooking a natural deep water harbor. From the warehouses in the middle of the town, a wide shaft had been excavated that led strait down into a small complex of halls and chambers in the rock. This complex opened in three places on the cliff face, perhaps ten feet above the high tide mark. Two large ships were currently pulled up alongside two of these openings, and ramps bridged the gap between them.

The excavated stone from the underground complex, had been used to build a mage tower on the northwest perimeter of where the town's structures stood. This tower rose six stories from the ground and was capped by a smooth, polished dome. It overlooked the well kept crop fields, which had been cleared of any obstructions out to a distance of at least half a mile from the edge of town's perimeter. These fields bordered the town on all but its southwest side, where the rock that made the cliff gradually became visible.

The road they had come in on, had lain within several yards of the cliff as they approached the town from the southwest, until it had turned north to enter the town from its southern side. Most of the buildings around the perimeter of town, consited of two stories, where archers could be seen haunting their upper windows. There was no wall about the any of the buildings themselves, although masses of brambles and briars filled the spaces under the trees of the forest beyond the fields, providing them with a natural defense that could not be burned away by typical means without the town watch seeing the light of the flames or the smoke they produced.

Hopping off one of the wagons of the caravan to join her friends, Runa cast glances at the locals and the town itself, calmly picking out details and storing them away for later. Her fingers itched to snatch some of the purses she saw hanging from the belts of the townsfolk, but she knew that stealing anything would ruin their opportunities in the town, and that knowledge helped her keep her fingers from where they shouldn't be. "Finding a place to sleep for the night would be nice," Runa said, adjusting her bag on her shoulder again. "It would also let us store our gear while we explore and try to find a job or something to do." With all that was in the town, there had to be someone who could use their skills to get a job of some kind done. And Thorgili was right. They were going to need money, and a lot of it, for their journeys.

Sharphorn offers to visit a local Inn, that should solve the job searching and the resting problem.
He also acknowledges that a visit to the mage tower might yield interesting results..
