Part-AAAyyy!

So this is a topic about Parties - or rather Friday night gatherings of people.

What do people do at gathering type party events?
Watch stuff?
Music in the background and talking?
Games of the drinking varity?
Other?
Please explore.

Just looking to expand the range of party events and enjoyable type things and just get a general chat going about what people like to do and these kinda things.

Also I'm planning a blow-out for my next birthday, and wanted to get some ideas and things.

I personally enjoy having mass drunken/stonerly fun with Just Dance on the Kinect. It has to be Kinect, not Wii. ;)

Restricting this to cases that outright call it a party, not simple a hangout that got a bit big.

Depends on which group of friends I'm with.

-If I'm with my friends from High School it will normally involve a lot of Wii U, a lot of movies, and a lot of wandering to the park at 5 in the morning to talk about shit.
-If I'm with my friends from College it will normally involve a lot of Rock Band, and practically everyone other than me is drinking and smoking weed.

I will note I go to very tame parties compared to most people.
I outright avoid parties (and people in general) that like to focus entire events purely around alcohol or weed and then doing stupid shit.
I mean, alcohol and weed can be nice ways for people to enhance the enjoyment but there's more you can do with people than just drinking and getting high and then doing stupid and dangerous shit because of it.

Yeah - see I like booze but I'm pretty heavy-weight when it comes to it, so the balance between not drunk at all and so drunk I don't remember is very difficult to maintain sometimes.

I do need to get me an x1 - I hardly ever think about those kinda party games, it's always cards and mind games and things - subsidised with drink and smoke I guess.

Drink along TV and movies works well - but I find that always soon fades to a background thing after people get a bit drunk. Also peeps seem not to know their limits quite often and then that's when things get… irritating to look after as a host :p

Rockband I will admit does start to become a background thing the longer it get's into the party.
But everyone tends to become the happy or sober drunk, not the sad or violent drunk. So everyone's still capable of having fun and holding decent conversations rather than simply going "Dude... Double rainbows!".

If you don't mind ruining friendships, Mario Party is - as the name subtly implies - a party game. Granted, you win by being the supreme asshole on the playing board, but if you and your friends are drinking, it's just drunken fun :)
(this from somebody who does not, has not, and has no intention to, consume alcohol)

Barring the above and the aforementioned Just Dance and Rock Band, there are actually quite a few games on Nintendo consoles that go well with parties. Mario Kart would be fun to watch drunk people play, but only if they're not the kind of people who will play a game while drunk then go "I'm gonna go do that for real now!" That's how drunk drivers die, so please prevent that to the best of your abilities. Another good one is Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and later in the year, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U may also be good for parties. I know the former has a rotation mode specifically meant for when you've got a lot of people playing, but am unsure if SSB4 will have this feature on Wii U.

Sadly, I don't go to parties, so the best I can do is offer up some games that would be good for them.
