Obvious name change is obvious.

I figured she'd appreciate me not sharing her real name since she's kind of a conspiracy theory nut who's constantly super paranoid that the government is watching her every move and that she'll be put on some sort of special "list" if she acts "outside the norm".

Anywho, figured I should make a single thread in which to post all her quirky shenanigans. She hasn't done anything super interesting just now (other than I guess calling me a "technophile", probably in response to that one time I called her a "technophobe") so I guess I'll just open this thread with this interesting thing that happened a while back:

So one night, I was out late because of this club I was in. I didn't come back to the dorm till like past midnight, I think around 12:30-ish. At any rate, as I walk down the hall towards our room, I realize that she's just sitting on the ground right outside our door. I freaked out, assuming that she'd somehow gotten locked out which meant she would've been out there for probably hours since I myself hadn't been in the dorm since like 6 that evening. So I start hurrying towards the room but before I can even ask if she was locked out, I realize that the door is wide open. And all my concern immediately transformed into confusion. So I asked, "Uh... what are you doing?"

Henry replies, "Waiting for you!"

"...Why?"

"So I can show you what I did to our room!!"

So we walk inside and I see that, firstly, she's moved around some of the furniture on her side, and tidied up a bit. More interestingly, however, she added some interesting "decorations" to both sides of the room. And when I say "decorations", I really mean sheets of lined paper that she's written words on (and a few drawings) and then taped all over the room. Most of the decorations from this incident are gone now, so the only two I remember distinctly were one she taped to the ground in the middle of the room that was labeled "THE (not so) HOSTILE BORDER LANDS" and one she taped to my desk which read "LAND OF WHOVIAN" and then had lots of smaller words/phrases written around it like "allons-y!", "doo-wee-oooh" and "watching the Classics!", which I actually found to be pretty amusing.

She has a tendency to make a lot of strange little notes like these. I already showed you guys the one she drew of me with the Daleks, and she also drew me as a pirate once. Oh, and one time I came home to the dorm to find a note taped onto the refrigerator telling me where she was, and her explanation of where she was and what she was doing somehow got derailed into "By the way Jon Pertwee is great. So is Peter Capaldi. On the back of this note I drew Capaldi with the T-Rex." and sure enough, on the back she drew the scene from Deep Breath where the Twelfth Doctor called the T-Rex a "big sexy woman" or something along those lines.

Unrelated: She has a tendency to laugh in her sleep. So... that's interesting.

The lights in the room are already off cuz she's trying to sleep, so I can't take any pictures of them right now, but in the meantime I suppose I can at least re-post the Dalek one which I posted in another thread a few days ago (sorry about how fuzzy the image is).

I'll see if I can post the pirate one tomorrow, since I still have that one taped to my desk. Too amusing to throw away.

And while I'm here I'd like to share with you just how amazingly techno-illiterate she is.

When I first met her and realized that she actually owned a flip-phone, I kind of jokingly poked fun at her for it. She actually got a little defensive and asserted her opinion that "flip-phones are the shit" and that they are the best type of phone. Despite this, her flip-phone broke not long after. So, her mom got her a new phone. And this new phone isn't exactly a smart phone but at least it's a little bit closer. I mean it has a touch screen and stuff and I think maybe a keyboard, too, so yeah.

Anywho, despite the fact that this new phone is still far from the best thing in the universe, she started exploring it a bit and was absolutely amazed at what this phone could do. I remember hearing remarks such as "What, this thing can record video?!" and similar surprise at the notion that it can record sound. I'm not sure if she was surprised it could take pictures - probably not, since I've seen her go absolutely crazy recording video and sound since she got that thing but she's less overly-enthusiastic over pictures. I remember attempting to explain to her that this was the sort of thing I was talking about when I mentioned "modern phones" back when I made fun of her flip-phone, and I'm still not sure if she's managed to wrap her head around that. I also remember just sort of flipping through the "apps" (if you can even call them that on a phone like this?) and just pointing out all the stuff that generally comes standard, like, "Yeah and it also has email, and internet..." and she got super excited like "woah what I can check my email on this?!" and then I realized that with how much she talks about how broke she and her family are I probably said something I shouldn't have so I quickly tried to fix my mistake by saying "aaah no you probably don't want to use that, that costs extra money!" but yeah it was hard to curb her enthusiasm.

And speaking of pieces of technology that broke almost immediately after she moved in: her laptop. I swear, I only ever saw her use that thing for one day (during which time I vaguely recall her needing to place a pencil under it to prop it up for some reason...) before suddenly, neither of us could get it to turn on. So she went laptop-less for a while, and spent a lot of time at the campus library, using their computers, since all our professors post a lot of stuff online with the expectation that we have access to it, so, it's kind of impossible to survive here without internet. Anywho, eventually her mom gets her a new laptop. ...She did not open it for at least a week after the fact, saying she's afraid it'll "burst into flames" since she supposedly has a bad track record with technology. Obviously there are a lot of holes in this logic, which I spent days trying to explain to her, such as the fact that there's no point in her trying to make sure it doesn't break if she's never going to use it anyway, and that the computers at the library don't explode on her, etc... but it still took me a while to convince her to open it up, and even then, she only agreed to do it with me at her side, helping her set the thing up, etc.

And then, as I'm booting it up for the first time, and trying to figure out exactly how much "set up" needs to be done (if any), I try to explain to her what I'm doing each step of the way in an attempt to increase her understanding somewhat. Since we couldn't install Office without internet access, I realized that one of the first things to do is to connect the computer to the building's wi-fi.

So, Henry asked me what "wi-fi" is. I had a hard time responding to that.

Anywho, her computer didn't want to connect to wi-fi for some reason so, since I couldn't download any of the needed software, I told her there wasn't much we could do till we got it connected and that she should "talk to the campus tech-help people" one of these days to figure it out for her. In the meantime, we might as well just turn it off. As I said this to her, her hand reached for the power button and I swear I had a mini heart attack, as I quickly grabbed her hand and told her "that's not how you turn off a computer!! >.< "

I asked her if she'd always been doing that (which might help explain why her old laptop was in such bad shape) when she explained that she only got into the habit of doing that when her old laptop kept freezing and so that was the only way she could manage to turn it off, and so using the physical power button all the time (whether frozen or not) was just easier.

I told her that, one of these days, I would teach her how to use control+alt+delete and the task manager, since that has a tendency to fix a lot of things.

And since that day (considering the fact that she has not yet sought out the techy people), that laptop is now, once again, resting snugly in its box...

Yeah, she can drive me a little nuts sometimes. @_@ Particularly when we're in comm class together and, as I'm trying to pay attention and take notes, she taps my shoulder and shows me another little drawing she's made... like 2-3 times per class.

Or, even crazier, when she talks about all sorts of things she knows I'm not interested (particularly fandoms I'm not a part of) out loud, seemingly talking to me though I'm actually tuning her out, for literally more than an hour without me saying a single word in response. I really don't know how one can carry on a conversation with no one for that long and not seem the least bit bothered by it.

Despite all that, though, I will say - I could've gotten a worse roommate. I mean, even though she can get annoying, at least she provides a lot of interesting stories to tell. Plus it helps that we do have some common interests.

Because "Henry" is a nickname she actually goes by IRL.

I figured that by avoiding her real name I could satisfy her paranoid tendencies, all while keeping me from needing to remember to use some made-up alias since I do actually call her "Henry" like half the time.

Not that the name Henry would make me male in itself, being a unisex name, particularly as Kaga did substitute it as a name for a girl... but I am actually 100% a bona-fide male, yes.

I think I understand why she acts the way she does. It's fairly common in residents, if I'm right. If I am, that's awesome you're able to get along with her. If I'm wrong, that still awesome cause it'd drive me nuts.

Rax is right. Just because I used it as a substitute name for my techno-illiterate, conspiracy-theorist, dances-like-a-stoner, sometimes-thinks-she's-a-pirate female roommate does not mean Henry is ever really used as a female name.

I'm really not even entirely sure why she likes to use that name IRL, either. I believe she told me a story once about her mom calling her that while she was high on pain medication or something, thus turning it into an inside joke, but I don't remember the details.
