At this time hardly at all, just an increase in his bitterness at his situation. He minds not the harvesting of souls and actually enjoys the work at the carnival.
Personality: Vol is not evil. Not in the traditional sense of the word or world. He is, however, cold, dark, callous, unbiased, and selfish. He rarely hates, he cares only about himself, and he shares nothing of his inner thoughts or feelings with anyone. Outwardly he is usually pleasant, charming, and polite. He carries grudges a long time—not grudges of malice but of principle. He considers hatred a base emotion and not worth his time or effort. He never reveals his displeasure outwardly. Instead he lays plans for a future destruction of the individual who incurred his wrath. He can play by the rules or outside them, depending on which he believes is the best course of action. He is crass and crude at times, but not in an attempt to shock or dismay--Only in that he feels that is the most truthful expression for the moment. He savors both the pleasure and the fear of others…mostly the former but he does get pleasure from the latter too. He often uses that in his wolverine act, drawing upon the unadulterated viciousness of the animals to elicit fear and will occasionally loose them on the audience. Particularly he favors fear from people that have displeased him. He has a highly addictive personality and he will often seek to re-create a truly euphoric experience. He has phenomenal willpower but that doesn’t keep his fantasies at bay, only keeps him from acting on what he knows he shouldn’t.
Biography & How You Came to be a Member of The Carnival?:
Vol has had a long life, longer than most realize. He learned the value of self preservation and self reliance at the age of 8 when his parents were slaughtered. He grew up poor, his life was miserable, and he didn’t really miss them. He vowed he wouldn’t be poor again however. He had a talent, from a very young age, of reading people. Knowing instinctively their likes, desires, dislikes, and whether or not they would be a good mark. He took up a variety of unsavory careers throughout his youth…thief, fence, whore, assassin, whatever he could do to make money. He does not regret his youth or feel sorry for himself. In his view it taught him how to survive, and that taking care of yourself was the most important thing. He sought revenge on the people who murdered his family, not because he cared about his family but on principle. The murderers took what was his, he would make them pay.
After that he had very little direction in his life, save his own selfish pursuits. He didn’t feel the lack. In fact he sought more time to enjoy his life of selfish pleasure and personal gain. He made a barging with a demon, selling his soul for youthful immortality. He has remained physically 32 (the age he was when he made the deal). He does not regret his choice and had he his life to live over again he would have sought the demon out when he was slightly younger. True his soul belongs to another upon his death, but until that time he is enjoying every luxury that he can lay his hands on. Money, sex, and fine liquor top his list of favorite things. He was 93 when he met a woman, a siren like himself. And like himself she was entirely selfish and concerned only with her own pleasure. She was a female version of himself, so naturally he fell in love with her. After all he was simply falling in love with himself except that he could also fuck her.
It was a devastating experience for him. He loathed every minute of it, and when she left as he knew she would (that is what he would have done naturally) he was even more distraught. It disturbed him greatly, he was not made to care about another being of any sort and the feelings he had were among the most horrible experience of his life. It was at this point that Mr. Seil found him. He offered Vol what he now wanted most, a way to prevent himself from ever caring about another again. Vol did not hesitate to make the deal, what was another bargain. He did not have possession of his own soul to bargain away, but he was more than willing to bargain away the souls of others.
