So, I'm a bit confused by this.
I already knew weed was illegal in America, but for the past while more and more states have been legalizing it.

What exactly happened that caused something like this to recent explode?

The explosion was deliberate and unprompted. No one knew she was the owner, no one was going to fire her over it, and she didn't talk to anyone about it -- she did a stunt to get some points for her club (which she owns, so that's probably more money in her pocket than she was making as News Girl #7). It's clearly working, so good job. We need more entrepreneurs.

Speaking from inside the industry, many owners and investors are told by their day jobs that they have to choose one or the other. Just keep that in mind.

Probably indirectly, but yes. Build awareness for a campaigning group, by which she directly profits both financially (more money), politically (more influence), and personally (more weed).

Regardless of the specific motivations, it's absolutely a ploy. It can be noble, I'm okay with that; looser regulations, hey, you know I love that. The moral high-horse strongarm thing though..... not crazy about that. It's pure grandstanding and we shouldn't reward it, but we almost certainly will.

Well what she did was a good thing, I wouldn't argue that.

But it's not an act I would go around and treat with such nobility and awe if it was something that was purely beneficial to her.

Well....... it was completely unprompted, and no threats, ultimatums, or coercion of any kind were involved, so that whole 'not like I have a choice but....' part is, uh......

But hey, self-interest ain't a crime. Lots of great things happen for everybody else, when you look out for yourself. *Lots* of activism boils down to a similar picture, and they still manage to create change. Don't hate or anything.

I'm not hating on self-benefit.

I'm simply saying she acted on self-benefit, me being in awe for her for that is like being in awe of a person for getting a promotion. Or getting their product sold in more stores. It's not a bad act by any means, but it's not really something they made an actual sacrifice for.

Well, the thing is that the DEA funds itself entirely through licensing-fees of legal dealers (like the one being discussed) and due to the escalation of the war on drugs and stringent regulations, less companies are out there and the DEA's budget has grown several thousand fold each year solely to burn weeds. Literal fucking weeds.

Care to guess what that does to her company? And every other American-legal drug-company?
