This is in no way official, but I see them being sort of dedicated to the Restos branch of magic rather than having a unique form of magical energy. Those are just my two cents. :D

@Bing, Monks would still use the same magic system as the mages. If you wanted to be able to use magic, your 'race' would still need to be a mage and the same rules would apply to your character as other characters. In your bio you would just explain you were a monk.

@Headphones, good eye. haha. I completely missed the age thing.

@Brand, monks are a subtype of mage, that is true. I think they would use Restos (help thy fellow man) and Destros (be one with the elements) n' shit.

Indeed, I have one or two things to say, but they are on the same topic as my last post.
You have stated that your character is currently eighteen years old and that she was at the age of six when her guardian, Edwic Devian, helped her escape the manhunt of the Briars. Unfortunately, Gowi, that would be impossible, judging from the information Brand has provided us.
Eighteen years ago the world was still at war with Malfear.
Twelve years ago, when your character is six years old, the war with Malfear ends.
When Arthur Blackwater marched his armies against Malfear and his brother-in-law made the coup d'etat it was "during the war with Malfear". I can not imagine the king of a country suddenly remembering "Oh, right, it's been ten years already. Maybe it's high time to get out of my swamp and go to war?" at the very end. It is more likely if it happened in the first few years of the war, when Gorgon helped Valeal push away the invaders.
If you insist on your character being eighteen years old ( and having a twenty seven year gap with her eldest brother), she would have to be a baby, yet I still do not see it working out for you. Perhaps you should increase her age slightly, say, make her twenty and make her guardian set off on the road with her while she's a baby or even in her mother's womb, but her mother dies during childbirth (for the sake of drama).

But, I think she was old enough to have been born a few years before the royal incident (5-10 years old). So how old exactly am I looking at here given those preferences? Once I get the information, I will edit her age and fill in young adult bio stuff.

Though if I threw away that preference and go with the "she was an infant" as you suggested, I could do that. Just want to figure out my options.

That highly depends on when exactly the coup d'etet occurred and Brand has not yet given the exact year, but if you are looking forward to making her older than an infant and the event did indeed take place in the early years of the war, I would say she would have to be more than twenty two years old.
