Skulduggery Pleasant - The Revived You are out for a nice dinner by yourself and having a pleasant time. As you finish up your dinner you receive your check. You pick up the check and quickly read over the price but then notice something written at the bottom of the paper. Scribbled onto the paper are the following words. You are a danger to yourself, your friends and family, and everyone around you. You must leave the town as soon as possible and get to the town Roarhaven, Dublin. The directions are on the back. Intro:
If the player decides to follow the directions magically fit to that person they will arrive at Roarhaven. Once at the town Autumn will meet them and explain the situation to them. They are the mixed, the muts of today's society. And there is a world they have no idea about. A secret world full of magic and monsters. They are part of the world whether they like it or not. They have the genes of some magic or monster from the secret world that has been passed down through generation to generation. Usually this wouldn't be a problem but for some reason these "dead" genes are popping back up. The secret magic society is forced to recruit the magic citizens or be found out to the mortal world.
These "dead" gened people called The Revived all have different powers based on what or who their parents/grandparents/great-grandparents... were. There are many different types of magic that split into two different main branches. The first one is Elemental magic and the other is Adept magic. Most sorcerers have a choice about which path they want to study in until their Surge. However there is the occasional person that is born with a Adept ability and must follow in that path.
These are a few general ideas about what a Adept could be though it is not limited to this
1 is magic that the user was born with. That means that one of their ancestors was one of this type of magic.
2 is magic that the user chooses as they are going though the Surge, a time were the person is choosing their desired discipline (read more about this down below)
2 Symbol magic: The magic to harness the language of magic to create a desired effect. While the creation of the symbol does not require energy the usage of it does. The symbols can be used by any magic user even if they have already chosen a discipline. SOMEWHAT RARE
2 Kineticist: This branch of magic allows the user to absorb kinetic energy and convert it into raw physical strength.
2 Energy-Thrower: This is the discipline that allows a user to hurl streams of energy. Although most direct the stream from their hands, it has be shown that it can be directed from the mouth, or possible other parts of the body.
1 Teleportation: This is quite obvious being someone uses magic to disappear and re-appear anywhere else in the world in the blink of an eye. The more experienced a sorcerer is at teleporting the further they are able to teleport. EXTREMELY RARE
2 Tunneling: This is the magic that allows a person to open up the wall, floor, ceiling, or such and slip into the ground. The tunnel will close up behind the person and only show hundreds of cracks were the tunnel previously was. Usually allows the user to move faster than when walking or jogging. RARE
2 Necromancy: This magic is one that harnesses the power of death to control and manipulate shadows and darkness. Necromancers put their power in an object such as a ring or necklace. Unlike what you would think they usually can't bring back the dead.
2 Wall-Walking: This is a very useful power that allows the user to shift their center of gravity so they can walk up walls. Wall-Walkers can also open locks and seal doors by place a hand on the door. SOMEWHAT RARE
2 Bone-Breakers: This is also a useful power that allows the user to break bones with a single touch. SOMEWHAT RARE
1 Sensitivity: Sensitives have many different types of magic, including seers, who can see into the future, telepaths, clairvoyants, and hypnotists. Seers usually have a hard time deciphering what they read in their "visions".
2 Linguistics and Etymology: This powers gives the user the ability to know every language spoken by humankind, both present and antique.
2 Releasing a gist: This is a rare magic that brings another magical body into the user, called the gist. It is fueled by the users hate, anger and determination. When the magic is used the gist takes the appearance of the user. The appearance of the actual gist is somewhat more animalistic than the actual user.(Ex. longer hair, sharper teeth and claws.) Gists draw a massive amount of energy being used and as such can only be released for extreme cases such as a last resort. If a gist is let out of the user's body for too long, the Gist will take over causing the user to be trapped inside the gist, instead of the gist being trapped inside the user. This branch is virtually unstoppable when used correctly. The only way the user can be harmed while the gist is out is though the tiring work of controlling the gist, or if the enemy manages to get past the gist to attack the user. EXTREMELY RARE
1 Warlocks: A dark type of magic, though not as much as a Necromancer, the caster's mouth transforms to enable them to eat the soul of their defeated enemy therefore gaining their strength. Warlocks also appear to be able to command light-based magic capable of paralyzing for short periods of time or speeding regeneration and healing of any wounds the warlock requires.
1 Changing form: Another obvious one the user can shift their shape in many different ways. Most common are shifts from an human form to an animal form though it has been heard of to have Form Changers that can alter their human physical appearance and completely become a different person. RARE
2 Lighting-Throwers: This magic allows the user to throw lightning and other electricity related attacks. This is a very fast draining power as the creation of lightning takes massive amounts of energy.
2 Illusion Creators: The mind ability that forces someone else to think and see illusions. This can be useful for trying to extract information from someone or scaring them. The power can not be used on the user however.
2 Dimensional Shunting: A very dangerous power for the user. It allows them to move through other dimensions. The user can shunt themselves or someone else and rarely shunt themselves as it is incredibly rare to find a dimension suitable for humans and it is impossible for the shunter to know anything about the dimension until the person gets their. Dimensional Shunters also have an ability to cast an echoing shunt on other people. This is cast by putting some magic into their touch when they reach out to another person. It has the same effect as shunting except with a delayed effect. It ca happen multiple times though if it happens an odd amount of times the effect person would be stuck in the alternate reality. The echoing shunt happens every couple of hours until the magic put into the effect runs out. The echoing shunt is usually preceded by throbbing and blur of vision. RARE
This is considered the second type of magic. It involves the manipulation of fire, earth, water, and air for offensive and defensive purposes. While this seems like a basic magic to master, it is much less practical than Adept, probably due to the difficulty of mastering all four elements.
Fire:
This is the flashiest and most used of the four elements, this power is mostly used to hurl fireballs at foes. Elemental sorcerers create fire through friction, usually snapping their fingers. Fire is the second most powerful, as its level of destructive power solely depends on the magical abilities of the sorcerer. However, fire still requires oxygen to be present, and as such it is not very useful in closed areas.
Uses
Users can create streams of fire from their hands.
Fire can be utilized to manipulate flames into whatever the user pleases (Ex. wall of fire, horse made of flames)
Users can envelop their body with fire, and then throw streams of it like a flamethrower
Users can throw fireballs. More powerful sorcerers can send bursts of flames
Focusing fireballs into smaller more intense flames for cutting and carving.
Air:
Air magic is the most versatile and at times the most powerful of the four elements. Air magic is the easiest to learn and for beginner Elementals it is usually what they start with.
Uses
Used to push objects/people
Destroy walls
flight, which is very hard for the user and requires years if not centuries of practice
pull an object/person
deprive a person of air
levitation, somewhat easier than flight but still requires much practice
air bubble, such as underwater
ability to read the disturbance of the air (sometimes used for tracking people or animals)
Creating whirlwinds
Crushing objects.
Squeeze, press, cut, or hold objects floating in midair
Containing explosions(like grenades, etc.) by making a sphere of air around it. This is very exhausting work as it requires a lot of energy to constantly keep up the wall of air needed to compress the explosion till it is done.
Earth: (very rarely is this used)
Earth magic was always a very defensive magic. Later on it was figured out it could be used for more besides defense.
Uses
It turns the user into an unbreakable stone statue for a random amount of time, from anywhere between a few weeks and a few hundred years
Manipulates the earth to give away the ground, sometimes used to find tunnels and holes in the ground
Water:
Water besides Earth i the most rarely used out of the four elements. Most commonly not used for combat but for instead aiding the user in somewhat mundane tasks.

create water to disrupt electrical appliances
manipulate the water vapor in the air
used to propel the user out of the water
to remove all moisture from the outside of the body
to manipulate snow or ice
Age and Names The constant use of magic rejuvenates the body and extends a sorcerers lifetime many lasting well over five hundred years. There are three names a sorcerer gets throughout their life. The first is their given name that their parents named them. The second is their taken name that they call themselves to protect themselves from other sorcerers using their given name against them. The final name is the most powerful, the True Name. The name describes their entire being and is incredibly powerful. It is said that it is a direct connection to the stream of magic from which all magic taps. If a user finds their True Name they can be extremely powerful allowing them to adopt other magic and become much more powerful than any other sorcerer, to the point where they are somewhat invincible. However if their true name is figured out by someone else the person can control the sorcerer in all forms. Once a second sorcerer uses someones true name against them, the owner cannot seal it. Sealing it is a complex and dangerous method to protect the person true name once they know it.
The Surge The Surge is when a sorcerers magic discipline is set. They undergo this change around the 18 if they were born into the world of magic using it constantly. If they have just gotten into the world of magic it takes a few years for it to reawaken. Before the surge the Sorcerer can train in several different magics, commonly being elemental and necromancy, though after the surge the sorcerer must make a choice on which magic they would prefer. The Surge allows the user to be much more powerful then before they had gone through it. In some extremely rare cases the user may go through the change and yet still be able to do more than one type of magic. This is an effect that has only been seen once every thousand or so years. Most times however separate uses of each magic will result in massive personality changes.
Sanctuaries Sanctuaries are organizations around the world the enforce the magical laws. There is usually at least one per a country, an example of more than one would be Africa. The Sanctuaries are lead by a Grand Mage and followed by his two Elders. Together they are called the Council of Elders. The Sanctuary in Dublin, Ireland is in RoarHaven.
Rules: No godmodding, powerplaying, metagaming, ect. Basic rule and such, although you may have powers you are not allowed to have the power to rip people apart with your mind. (at least without their consent :P )

Keep it real. If you suddenly were threatened and then found out powers how would you react? Would you believe them or would you be frightened?
Go slow. The Rp will be no fun if you instantly have mastered you power so go slow and learn how to control it as the RP goes.
Violence is encouraged. Many of the powers are directed on being defensive or offensive so violence will happen, just remember you are civilized people.
