Alexander heard the sounds too, and allowed Calliope to pull away, following her to the window to look outside. He was confused at first, before his eyes widened in realization. The manor was under attack. And from the direction the forces were coming from, it was more than just an attack... It was an act of war. He reached out to grab Calliope by the shoulder, spinning her around to face him. His face was grim, and very serious, one of the few times he seemed unsettled. "Calliope, listen to me. You're going to do exactly as I say, do you understand?"
Regardless of her response to that, Alexander would continue speaking. "I'm going to leave your room and try to get to your father, figure out what I need to do. You are going to lock the door behind me, you are not going to open it for anyone who isn't myself or your father. Do you understand me?" His words came quickly, though there was very obvious worry in them. He pulled out one of his daggers, handing it to Calliope. "If someone forces their way in... Defend yourself. I'll be back as soon as I can be." He would pull her into another embrace, for a brief moment, before letting her go and running out the door, closing it behind him. He knew that guards would already be mobilizing, but he would be able to maneuver around them, thanks to his leather armor. His plate was useful in some situations, when he absolutely needed to be capable of taking a hit. Otherwise though, it just hindered him.
He quickly reached her fathers study, and considering it was still early into the night, he knew the man would likely be there, probably receiving word of the invading force as he approached the door. Alexander didn't bother knocking, instead throwing open the door and walking inside briskly. He saw her father, sitting in a chair with a paling face, while a soldier, looking like a captain of the guard, or something of similar rank, told him of the news. He didn't necessarily care right now. "Daiud. What do I do with Calliope. She's in her room, I told her to lock the door and not to let anyone in. They're invading, and we're first on the list. What do you want me to do?" The man seemed shocked at Alexanders tone, though he would seem shocked by anything at this point, his face as pale as could be. He quickly recovered, looking to Alexander as he took in the news.
"Take her from here. That is an army, any this manor is going to be burned to the ground. We don't have the guards present to stop a fifth of that force, much less the entirety of it. Take her from her, we have some family in Norgarrum." Alexander was silent for a moment. Norgarrum? That was two damn countries away.
"Why am I taking her so far away?" The answer was simple, as Daiud explained. For all their wealth, it was material. They held no real influence. The only place they could send her, safely, was Norgarrum, was to family. And, being two countries away, it was also far from the war, far enough to keep her from being harmed by it. Nodding, Alexander would leave to head back to Calliopes room, already starting to hear combat. It'd taken him nearly twenty minutes to traverse the entire manor, and he'd spent more time talking. The forces had arrived, and now they were attacking.
