[OOC] The Riders of Island

Many years have passed since the first, fully-documented, trained dragon, Toothless, an unruly Night Fury, rode his maiden flight with his brave dragon tamer riding upon him. His tamer was none other than Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (later renamed Hiccup the Honourable), who taught his Viking brethren that dragons didn't deserve their reputation as vicious, sheep-stealing monsters, and thus the inhabitants of Berk became an island of dragon trainers and riders themselves.
Since the death of Toothless's Tamer one-hundred and fifty years ago, however, the viking island of Berk, and the rest of the viking world for that matter, has slowly succumbed to a state of utmost fear and panic of their reptilian neighbours once more. Livestock is regularly thieved for fodder by the aerial dragons, fishing boats are consumed whole (along with their catches) by the ravenous, and rather diverse, aquatic species, as well as countless cases of structural damage (notably from the fire-breathing variety).
Through the generations, fewer and fewer dragons were tamed for their companionship; although, thanks to the original book of dragons stating almost every weakness, arena-based dragon fighting excelled to extreme levels before laws were passed to outlaw the savagery, and the dragons that had fought in such matches were slain without question.
Today the island of Berk is a hunting ground for dragons, likened to the age-old time before Hiccup the Honourable ever tamed his mighty Night Fury. Where dragons are unwanted and are killed on site; never spared any form of empathy. Their lives are treated as parasitical to the under-developed island of sheep-herders and fisherman.

But there is hope! A small, rogue group of young men and women have gathered on an island to the West of Berk, close to the home of the long-deceased Red Death. They are a group consisting of dragon-loving individuals, who can, do and happily live in the coniferous trees that have taken seed since the execution of the ex-Alpha dragon, and they have named it informally as 'Island'. Each of the residents on 'Island' are permitted their own Night Fury from the descendants of the first, rare eggs that were discovered deep inside the old dragon lair when it was first used as a refuge to the original founders. There, they respect the dragons that live there and treat each one with equality; a stolen sheep every now and then is a small price to pay for unconditional loyalty. The question is - are you worthy of recruitment?

Rules

- No perfect characters, power playing, god modding, explicit sexual scenes, armour (at the moment at least) or any other basic RPG rules.
- Use "speech marks" if your character is talking, italics to emphasize a word, and other, basic, grammar rules apply (full stops, commas etc.). If you're talking to another character please at least use names.
- A dragon can't talk to its rider. Can the rider talk to a dragon? Yes. Can the dragon talk back? No. Does it have any inkling of what your talking about? That's up for debate.
- Please attempt to keep away from the whole history of parents dying in brutal ways for your character. I understand some people have a go-to character like this, but it gets old, fast.
- Delete everything inside brackets in the sign-up sheets.
- You're also instructed to have… fun. So without further ado - I make it a rule to have fun.
On the punishment of death.
[hider=Other] - Everybody gets their own Night Fury right at the start of the Roleplay so you *have* to sign-up your Night Fury *before* you start. If you would like a different dragon, please don't hesitate to drop a line before you sign-up.
- You can start as an already fully-initiated member born on the island or as someone picked up on a neighbouring Viking island and deemed worthy enough to be initiated. Either way, you *will* start off initiated and you *will* start with you're dragon right from the start of the RPG.
- Make your character's job as interesting/mediocre as you'd like! You could make a character that forges weapons, instructs flight training or makes sure the dragons are well fed. The list goes on. Just try and make sure it doesn't clash with another persons job. Those that showed an interest in the Interest Check get first dibs on jobs.

- All of the night furies come from ancient ancestors born on the island. As a result of the small gene pool there are quite a few mutated dragons flying around (as well as ones that have died before hatching). They range from comical appearances to possessing deadly fighting/defensive capabilities. Mutations can include (but are not limited to): Feathers, strange colourations (neon, colurful markings or even camouflage etc.), venomous spines/fangs - the list goes on! Please try and keep every mutation sort of balanced, for example a venomous dragon might lack the ability to spit fire, a dragon that can swim underwater may lack of wing membrane (preventing flight) and a dragon that can glow in the dark might be beneficial when exploring tunnels and dark areas but it would be incapable of stealth flight(especially at night)

My Character Sheet

Name: Iorek "the Oddball" Engström
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Personality: Iorek is a man who is always smiling. Happy would be the first word most would use to describe him. He just radiates with this natural joy and positive vibes that often rubbed off on other people. It was good in his eyes because all Iorek wants to do was to make people smile. Sad is something he doesn't want to exist. To him, no one deserves to be down in the dumps. This thought process often leads him to do stupid things in order to raise someone's spirits even in the slightest. As dumb as he seems, Iorek is an highly intelligent man but doesn't like letting his smart side run wild. He is able to form a plan in a good minute or so but his easily distracted mind kept him from being as useful as possible. Under pressure, may it be for food or their lives, Iorek can gain a very serious air to himself. It can almost be scary how his smile disappears in seconds to be replaced by a mean looking scowl.
Iorek is also highly possessive and strong minded. The man knows what is his and will make it very clear that said person, or thing, was his and only his. He is strong minded in the sense that once he had an opinion or idea of something it wasn't easily deterred. Put those two together and you have a semi-serious man who wouldn't let things go in a fear they would leave him. It was a weakness that he had yet to overcome. On another note, Fritjof can actually be affectionate. The kissing, being near each other thing. It was foreign to him but he has been known to be that way once or twice in his life.
History: Iorek comes from a long line of weapon forgers, most of them belonging to his father's side. On his mother's side came a wide variety of jobs from being a tailor to going to the field and taming dragons. Fritjof's father, Torunn, was a master forger who supplied weapons of all trades to 'higher class' tribe-men. It just so happened when he was out trading that he met Sigrid, who would be his wife and mother of two children. Sigrid was a mere tailor, tending to her sheep most of the days and selling what woll and clothes she made from them to the public. Only a year later Sigrid was announced pregnant with their first child, a daughter named Freydis. Freydis was a cute yet evil child, always running a muck and causing trouble. When she was three, she was finally blessed with Iorek. His first few years were spent learning to speak and wield a weapon- of course on his father's demand. When he turned eight he began working at the shop with his father, his skill growing very quickly. Quick enough, in fact, that when he turned 10 he was able to make his own money by making custom weapons. At thirteen he stopped working for his father and decided he wanted to explore the world beyond Berk, beyond what he knew of the surrounding area. Of course he was told to wait, but at fourteen he took off. He banded up with a group of people who didn't fear their reptilian counterparts just as he didn't.

Personality
Destin had always been an independent child growing up, wanting to do things himself and proving how useful he could be to his elders. He handles responsibility fairly well but when given time to himself, Destin enjoys slacking off and getting all this responsibilities off his shoulders, if only for a while. He isn’t one to act irrationally and tries to think through problems rather than jump the gun. Usually, he is perceived as a very social young man who likes to interact with everyone he meets. He gets along well with the children and young dragons on the island and will try to act as a peacemaker of sorts if need be.
Despite his usually relaxed and friendly disposition, Destin would rather spend time alone or with his trusted companion, Ghost, and recuperate from a long day of work. In his spare time, Destin would occasionally spar with Ghost, honing in on his skills a fighter so that he could lend a hand if the need ever arises.

History
The oldest of four, and the only son, Destin was given a lot of responsibility and duties as a young boy. People expected a lot out him and though he feared he would not deliver, Destin strived to make his parents proud. It wasn’t so much their approval he yearned for, but rather a show of respect. He held his parents in high regards, understanding how difficult it was for them to support him and his sisters with the little profit they acquired from trades and bartering.

From a young age, Destin helped his father tend to the unborn and newborn dragons of the island, as well as assisting his mother on her crop farm. The crops they grew were what they relied on most for trading and resources. Helping out with the young dragons offered no reward other than doing a good deed. He enjoyed the volunteer work. It gave him purpose. When he received his own egg, Destin was determined to raise it on his own, to show it kindness so that it would grow to trust in him.

At first, the bond between him and his new Night Fury seemed nonexistent. She was restless and did not take orders well. A stubborn young thing, Ghost took advantage of her unique trait, play games with Destin and sneaking out for hours during the night. Often times, Destin would awake to find Ghost nowhere to be seen. He would find the string and bell from around her neck lying outside the house. She’d usually be found lying under a large tree at the base of the mountain. One night, Destin decided he would meet her at her sleeping tree, not wanting her to sleep alone every night. After her nightly prowl, Ghost would retreat to her favorite spot, only this time she found a slumbering Destin curled up at the trunk of the tree, his breath visible in the cold air. Destin would wake that morning to find Ghost covering his body with her wings, her arms holding his body against hers. After that night, the two became almost inseparable.

Ghost is a stubborn girl, still very young and adventurous. Like most Night Furies, Ghost appears practically fearless and has a very independent attitude. She’s weary of new faces and isn’t easy to trust others, but after getting accustomed to someone, Ghost will let her guard down around them and accept them as non-hostile beings. When she’s not being overly cautious, Ghost becomes a very active and lively dragon.

Skills
- Speed- Like all Night Furies, her speed is nearly unmatched, aside from that of her kin
- Plasma- Her fire-type is common amongst Night Furies: eloquently powerful shots of plasma
- Camouflage- An ability unique to her, Ghost was born with the adaptive ability to change the pigment of her scales to match her surrounds to a point. This ability, however, sacrifices the durability of her scale armor, making her skin easier to pierce compared to others of her kind

- Being attacked from behind
- Destin’s cooking

Physiology
Invisibility- Similar to the Changewing and Stealth Dragon, Ghost developed the unique ability to match her scale pigment exactly with her surroundings, able to blend in almost completely with the environment. It is extremely difficult to see her when she is in this state, especially to the untrained eye. Even if one were to differentiate her from the surrounding area, she would still be very difficult to spot. When on the move in this state, it is near impossible to see her.

You could be in charge of either basic training (general upkeep and such, caring for the dragons and feeding them etc. As well as teaching others how to do the same) or aerial training (organising wing formations and arranging flight-based activites etc.), if that's what you mean? Or you could be in charge of the hatching grounds and all the baby dragonets?

Are the dragons going to be kept in stables or live where they please, because if there is some general courtyard area with dragon stables, equipment and food are, I'd love to be in charge of that!

I'll do an update when I have the time to work out the details and make a map (darn exams), but what I had in mind is that the islander are, in all esences, nomads who move around the island with their dragons and live where they please, but have established a single village that they always return to on the Eastern side of the island. Sheep live wild all over the island meaning they need hunted when the dragons (and by extension, their riders) are hungry.
The village is on the Eastern side of the island and has a forge, several shops with merchandise that has either been stolen from neighbouring vikings or traded for, a larger building for meetings and such as well as many other houses. The hatching grounds are located in the middle of the village.

Timberjacks are found in forest I think. If im wrong perhaps your character could have come from a different village and had trained the dragon prior to arriving on the island.

Gender: Female
Personality: Very nice, but not bubbly. She loves to smile, though she doesn't do it as often as you'd think, in other words. She's sarcastic, kind, stubborn, and sharp-witted, which matches her dragon well
History: From a tribe further south, she has both her parents, though she left home to pursue her career as a baker. There were too many bakers already in her village, so, almost immediately after getting her dragon she headed north, finding and staying in berk (as, even after Hiccup's death, there still weren't enough bread-making vikings). She set up shop and began work, known for her tasty tarts and pastries, as well as her southern style bread, which was something Berkians weren't used to. She didn't feel very comfortable on Berk, however (Having to hide poor razorwing didn't help) and she ended up leaving, believing she wouldn't be missed.
Job: Baker/Pastry maker
Preferred weapon(s): Anything she can hit someone with. She's not a fighter, so she's not proficient in any specific weaponry, but she carries a broadsword that she uses to hit people with ..... yeah, someone help her out with that
Skills: nimble fingers and quick thinking. she's also very careful when it counts
Fears: people bigger than her, the dark, prolonged social interaction
Other: She loves reading and re-reading the book of dragons, and spends a lot of quality time with her dragon

Personality: a bit vain *like many dragons in the sharp class*, but surprisingly kind, he cares about Nina, but enjoys teasing and scaring her, as her reactions are usually very funny. He's anything but lazy, and loves taking long flights with Nina.

Fears:He doesn't like the ocean (traveling to Berk was not fun for him)
Physiology: He has some scars on the bottoms of his wings, mostly from some accidents when he was a hatchling

History: Parents didn't like having a son who was more intelligent than they were, and often accused him of putting on airs. After a fight with his mother went awry in his bedroom, a plant experiment he had been working on splashed on his eye, leaving him with a green patch around the affected area, and making his one eye blind, but an eerie, pupiless green. A week after this event, realizing his mother didnt care that she had disfigured her son, he decided to leave his family trobles behind and made himself a crank operated boat, leaving the peninsula he lived on after two days of construction without a word to anyone.

Personality: Moderately aggressive and stubborn.
Skills:Pretty independent flyer, doesnt require alot of direction to go where her rider wants, but still will go where she damn-well pleases sometimes.
Fears: Water. She will fly as far above it as she can, and if there's clouds, she'll stay above those so she cant see the water.
Physiology: Dark Cadmium Red, cant breath fire, only sparks, but wears a set of tooth caps that catch fire when she sparks and put out when she rertracts her teeth. This gives her a flaming smile and a searing bite.
