So, about a 8+ months ago now, I started an rp that was sort of a choose your own adventure RP after reading an interest check by the user AirBear08. Long story short, I played the main character, while my partner controlled several other characters, and it was sort of like a visual novel mixed with action segments. We both helped build the world and controlled NPC's, but it felt free in the sense that we weren't being forced along a single plot, but instead freely moving through the over arcing plot through smaller, uique plots and choices made by the character. It died after about 30+ posts though as AirBear08 disappeared.
Ever since then, I've just been trying to do more RP's, some unlike this style, others very similar, to even trying to make a clone of the RP of sorts. All attempts either fialed shortly, or never even got started due to real life issues or just general lack of interests.
So, the title of this is basically to lead into this slight explanation of why I'm gonna give this site one last shot. I just honestly can't be bothered to try and start anymore RP's here if this fails, not because I hate the site or the people on it, but just because I know that if I can't get an RP partner and plot that I can be invested in now, then it's likely I won't ever find any RP here that I can really work with, which I'm actually a little sad about. I've been RP'ing here for 6 years, I was a somewhat established RP'er before the site reset, I had a bunch of close friends, RP partners, and I even grew from being a beginner level RP'er to advanced during my time here.
I really don't want to let this site go, but after the reset, most people left, or just disappeared all together, still I feel like I owe this site too much to just up and disappear. It might seem stupid to others, but I really want to try and get something started, or at least give it one last shot. If it fails, so be it, and I'll move on. If not...Well first I have to actually get an RP up and running before I can make any decisions regarding that possible train of events.
Anyway, with my little sob story out of the way, I guess I should at least give some interests and stuff. I'm a big fan of mixing genre settings, like fantasy and modern, sci-fi and magic, etc. I like hybrids because they allow a melding and reforming of tropes and cliche's that actually make them pretty unique. How would clans of magic creatures work within a large scale city, what happens when a race of magical beings discovers the ability to travel through space, and other such basic plot ideas. That said, I only like few specific singular styles. Fantasy, sci-fi, and modern. Yeah, not much of a pool of settings to pull from, but I'm sure that we could make this work if my partner was willing.
Next is my style of RP'ing. I hate the traditional method of RP'ing, each controlling one character, contributing to the plot, blah blah blah. It's boring cause save for a few unique surprises one partner could pull out, there's no real variable. My preferred style is a "mod vs player" style of sorts. One person controls the plot, antagonists, world, etc. It's almost like being the dungeon master of a D&D game, but instead of a whole group, it's only one player your DM'ing for. The reason I like this style is because it provides both parties control and surprise of the plot. The DM could have specific plot points in mind, but the player may do something that completely changes what is available for the DM to dictate. Player needs to slay dragon? Player decides the treasure isn't worth it and decides to instead get gold by robbing villagers and is now wanted by the government as a criminal. And it could work in the reverse as well. Player decides to fight dragon head on like the standard fairy tale story, but gets defeated almost single-handedly because the dragon just flew around him and blew fire at him, like any intelligent creature with flight and ranged attacks would do.
TL;DR It gives both sides' actions weight because whatever they do will have an effect no matter what on the other side's planned actions and how they have to adapt accordingly.
So, with my RP "style" explained and my list of personal preferences of genre/settings, lets get into some rules.
1. Posting: 3 paragraphs minimum on average, meaning posts of 2 paragraphs are alright occasionally as long as your minimum average is 3 paragraphs per post. AKA< low advanced. Also, post once every 2 days, let me know if you are gonna be gone for a little. If you just stop posting for over 5 days and don't respond to any OOC messages, I drop you. Simple stuff really.
2. Mature/Dark Themes and/or elements: I don't really like sex scenes. I don't dislike them either. I'm just indifferent to it. If you insist on this stuff, fine, but if it becomes the norm, I drop you. Same with gore. I also like mature stories, not sex mature but you know, material mature. Stories that create a moral dilemma that forces the character into situations where they're question their very ideals and maybe even break them as people and force them to take monstrous actions, like shooting through a hostage to also kill a criminal that has murdered hundreds if not thousands, and will continue to do so, but if you choose to save the victim he'll definitely get away. Sure, you have to kill an innocent person, but more people will surely die if the criminal goes free. Stuff that creates morally grey areas within a story are great.
3. Romance: It's a 1x1 RP, I know, romance is sort of a standard thing, not because all 1x1's have to have a romantic subplot to be good, but with two characters constantly interacting with one another, it's not that uncommon for them to begin to develop an emotional bond, and even develop romantic feelings for one another. I actually like romance when it's done tastefully, aka NOT BEING LOVEYDOVEY EVERY OTHER FUCKING SENTENCE. If the central plot becomes a side line to the romance of two characters, I'm done. If romance is used to develop characters further, that's fine, it's a good tool of writing, but don't use it as a crutch for bad RP's with bad plots.
4. Don't be a dick. This shouldn't be too hard. If you disagree with something I do, want to change something, drop the RP all together, just be polite. I'm open to change and am willing to change things to continue an RP that I'm invested in, as long as my partner is likable. Honestly, just don't say "This shit sucks, we need to change it cause it's fucking stupid." Say "I'm not really to sure about this plot element, maybe we can change it to something more fitting?" Not too hard right?
Anyways, that's it for me. I don't have any plots in mind, but if you're interested trying to work out an RP plot with me, then either post here or PM me.
P.S. Don't send me just pairing ideas. Those aren't plots, those aren't even fully fleshed concepts. I hate when I see "*insert title* (Plots inside)" and all I fucking get is a list of pairings like slave x princess or demon x angel. These types of posts that lie basically made me hate just using pairings as ideas for RPs.
P.S.S. If my attitude/writing towards certain topics make me seem like I'm an angry person or something like that, I'm not. I'm just very "passionate" towards things that grind my gears. Wasted so much time on so many bullshit int checks that it just aggravates me, especially giving my long standing personal relationship with the site lol.
