Destiny of the Desert (a desert survival roleplay)

Main Idea

2135, a mere 17 years after The End, civilization has managed to survive and pick up where it left off. While most cities stayed partially intact, the rest of the world is either a scorching desert or a murky swampland with freaks that wander aimlessly. Most people decided to continue farming or building, while the rest decided that the only way they could make money was to test their skills of survival and battle by becoming mercenaries or bandits. That minority is what we will be focusing on. Your character will either be a skilled master of survival, with many years of training to survive the harsh desert and the merciless bandits while also taking out targets when the time comes to get paid, or a skilless novice, hoping to get big by learning from the best of the best.

What I Will Accept/What I Will NOT Accept

I will accept down to earth characters with ambiguous morals
I will accept jerk-asses with little to no morals
I will accept lovable extremists who, despite their optimism, still likes destruction
I will accept scholars, smart-asses, and skilled people
I will accept pessimists with a dark view on life

I will not accept happy-go-lucky heroes who always win
I will not accept characters who never miss a mark
I will not accept people who go out of their way to put their characters in the spotlight
I will not accept mary-sues
I will not accept gigantic douche-nozzles

Other than that, anything goes.

What I Expect

I expect you to take a joke
I expect you to write at least a paragraph
I expect you to be equally matched (if you're not a novice) to the other characters
I expect not to come on after a good night's sleep and see a whole bunch of off the wall bullshit that makes no sense. Keep it withing the realm of possibility! (in the context of this roleplay)

What Can You Do For This Roleplay?

Be active.

Provide your own skewed version of what happened at The End; the story is supposed to be always changing without reason

If we have artists, draw up characters, maps, body suits, or guns. Heck, maybe all four.

Provide your own lore that can go along with what happened before and after The End. I'll accept that and see if it works with what I have so far.

Treat this like you would your own creation. Clean up any problems with it and send it in to me or a Co-GM.

There will be arcs. In-between arcs, it will be sandbox.

Combat will work in both ways. When fighting hand-to-hand, it will be action-response. I.e, your character throws a punch at the other, aiming for the nose. Your character's opponent will decide to dodge or get hit. When fighting with guns, it will be dice roll.

1. If it's not on the second list, it is allowed.

2. I'd like to explain more about the event as the roleplay goes on by leaving little snippets of information in posts and stuff. The amount of people left will be unspecified, but let's say there are at least 50 million left in the world, about a third are mutants.

3. Everyone will get a character sheet when I make the OOC and not a millisecond sooner! (this gives me time to not only make a character sheet, but plan what the opening post for both the OOC and the IC)

If you have an over-arching plot in mind with what little information you have, I'd love to hear it over PM and give some info related to the setting and stuff, however I would like to feel myself entitled to be as obscure as I'd like so I don't give away too much info about what's going on. Sorry if that seems a bit dickish.

EDIT: If you like, I can present to you a dice system that I've half created(based heavily on Apocalypse World) that encompasses both melee and ranged combat, as well as loot(useful in a post-apoc) We can modify it as necessary, too.

System

These stats range from -3 to +3. They must equal a net of +3.
Cool: As in clear-thinking, calm, rational
Hard: As in hard-hearted, aggressive, violent. Determines melee combat.
Swift: As in quick, reactive, flighty.
Sharp: As in smart, perceptive, educated.
Steady: As in dextrous, unflappable. Determines ranged combat.

These range from -1 to +1. They must equal a net of +1.

Thrown
Melee

We roll with 2d6(two six sided dice) and add(or subtract) the appropriate stat, skill and whatever other penalties may apply. 10+ is a full success, 7-9 is a partial success. Two partial successes in a row, while attempting the same task, will equal a full success.

For loot, in a given situation, you'll roll Xd10 to determine the type(s) of loot.

Large building: 5d10
Small building: 4d10
Car: 3d10
Corpse: 2d10(in addition to anything that the person/mutant is already established to have had on their person)

Numbers equal these:

1: Food
2: Food
3: Clothing
4: Clothing
5: Luxury
6: Ammunition
7: Melee/thrown weapon.
8: Melee/thrown weapon.
9:Medicine
10: Gun/other ranged weapon

The idea is that there's lots of stuff left in the world to find, but not all of it is always useful all of the time.

It might be a good idea to add in a third set of non-combat skills. Lockpicking, repair, computer, what-have-you. I didn't have such a list before, but I later decided it might have been useful.

I've already playtested this a bit, one thing it really doesn't take into account is skill level disparity, which it sounds like you wanted to have in your RP. I would suggest giving Veteran mercs one extra point to throw into skills or else take one away from novices.

Aside from mutants and a certain sub-plot I have thought out, characters will not have super-powers or magic. They will be completely "normal".

I saw it. Wasn't really my cup of tea.

I was going to do a chance thing, depending on skill and level.

Master level 1-10 have a 1 in 5 chance to miss, and every five levels afterwards the chance to hit will go up by one.

Novice level 1-5 have a 1 in 3 chance to miss, and every two levels afterwards the chance to hit will go up by one.

Melee will be done by action, and I will end it if I need to.

Looks interesting, Broby, and given what I was reading, this seems to be heading in a dark direction, since we can't really play superhappy "EVERYTHING IS SUNSHINE AND MOTHERFUCKING RAINBOWS" characters. I love RPs with dark directions, and post apocalypse just so happens to be a thing I really like.

It's not exactly dark, but it is definitely cynicism, which works better for a post-apocalyptic story.
