Police Chief Lawrence Chambers took one look at the brochure given to him by a distraught looking journalist just hours earlier. “Please sir you HAVE GOT TO SHUT DOWN THIS PARK.” the poor man had begged him, tears welling up inside his eyes. He had a look of someone who had gone through hell and back.

“I'm sorry sir I can't simply shut down or restrict access to a national park.” Especially a historic one. It would take time and effort to convince the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation that such a thing was even necessary. First of all, he's need proof of the journalist's concerns. He doubted that the OPRHP would ever believe that anything within Deer Mountain was haunted, let alone that there's an entire village hidden within its borders that has gone overlooked for decades.

'Give me a break' he had thought during the guy's testament, twirling a snowglobe idly between his fingers as the man described a tower that only appeared at the stroke of midnight.

“Sir where is exactly is this village?” the Police chief asked the journalist who had then promptly taken out a map of the park. “Right there!”

The man was pointing to a blank area underneath Pond Drive. It was a large area filled with nothing but trees, possibly around 600 acres wide. There were a frew trails that ran through that area, four to be exact, maybe more. He hadn't heard of anyone running into a ghost village while hiking. He was certain the man was full of it. The man was pointing out certain things to him, like the two hills where the two most powerful families in the area stood rule. He was also insistent on that stupid tower of his.

“Sopor's Clock. See?” the man pointed at a building that was marked out next to a railroad track.

“That's where the nightmares happen. Whenever it appears the nightmares- they come to life. It's evil!”

That was about the time Chambers ordered the man to leave, before asking for a nice cup of joe to quell his aching head. Who knew where the poor journalist was now. Probably some psychiatrist, or something. Lord knows he could use a psychiatrist.

Still, he couldn't deny he heard of people disappearing on those trails. The park had blocked public access on them tons of times in the past. Yet there was never any indication of a hidden village or clocktower. They always assumed that it was dangerous wildlife attacking hikers that weren't properly prepared or ignored safety precautions. Or some animals just managed to find their way on trails that were previously thought of as safe. Anything could happen on those trails really. The Park Rangers did whatever they could to insure the safety of hunters, hikers, and campers alike. As the saying goes, “nobody's perfect”.

But why couldn't he shake the feeling that something fishy was going on in Deer Mountain?

PREMISE

“Welcome to Deer Mountain State Park!”

Perhaps you had looked over the brochure hundreds of times before finally deciding to dial the reservation number. Perhaps you were excited, or perhaps you were nervous. Perhaps you were planning a nice camping trip with your friends, or a nice hunting trip with your son, or a nice honeymoon with your new husband. Perhaps you just wanted to escape. Perhaps you needed time to figure your life out. Perhaps you just need inspiration.

For whatever reason, you found yourself at Deer Mountain State Park. You had many expectations, many worries, many fears. You put those behind you. After all, you just want to enjoy yourself. The staff of Deer Mountain warmly welcome you, their smiles plastered on their faces. You can't tell whether they are honestly happy to see you, or were made to do this for all their customers. The front desk at the accommodation of your choice handed you your keys, and you go to your room without any difficulty.

Absolutely nothing was going to go wrong.

But while you have heard many good things about the mountain, you have also heard terrible stories about disappearances along the trails that lead off the turnpike. Hikers would just go out missing, never to be found again, with no hint as to where they were last. They had to close off such trails a number of times, writing the disappearances off as wild animal attacks. Possibly bears. It was plausible, nobody could argue that bears were becoming a huge problem in New York. Still, you couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to those stories. No matter how you may have felt about the disappearances, something inside of you actually wanted to take the trails, and find out what had truly happened.

The curiosity was too strong to resist.

Name: Olive Bishop

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Straight

Job: Music Teacher at Brookfield Elementary

Appearance:

Olive's most obvious features are either her strange gaze which never quite makes eye contact (she's fairly obviously blind) or her out of style, mismatched clothes (which are another clue if you didn't pick up on her disability right away). Olive is also on the short side and a little frail looking, though in reality she's hardly helpless.

Personality: Five words to describe Olive would be: Naive, Kind, Frugal, Gullible and Impulsive. Despite being born blind, Olive's always been a country girl at heart, having grown up on a farm and spent most summers camping with her dad and brother. Getting messy or living on a tight budget are all things she can deal with. The only times she really gets uncomfortable are when she's alone or in situations out of her social and economical boundaries. The former comes from being lost in the woods for a couple days on her own when she was 8, and the latter is simply from not knowing what to do around classy and elegant people. Being lost is right up there in fears along with drowning and accidentally falling off a cliff, but the last two are probably unlikely. In her free time when she isn't teaching, Olive loves to cook (which she's terrible at) or read trashy mystery novels (in braille of course). The mystery novels have been fueling her overactive imagination lately.

Background: Olive's mother left when she was 5. It was obvious that trying to take care of a blind child was more than she had signed up for. One day she took a few things while they were all asleep and never came back. That abandonment is Olive's biggest regret, often making her hate the thing about herself she can never change. Though, things weren't so bad after that. Olive was always very close to her father and brother and they took great care of her, encouraging her to pursue her passion of music and to go to school, even learning to live on her own. No matter what happened, Olive felt confident that if she tried her best, she would either succeed or at the very least still have her family supporting her, so there was never much fear in her life. This changed two weeks ago when her father passed away from a stroke. It rocked her world and all she wanted was to get away from day-to-day life. Her brother suggested they go camping like they used to when they were little, so Jason packed up his jeep and they took off for Deer Mountain State Park.

Accommodations:

Quirks: Blind with a lack of social boundaries pretty much sums up Olive. Maybe it's that she gets away with more since no one seems to want to scold her, but regardless, Olive speaks her mind and is a bit too friendly with complete strangers. She's a bit like a stray dog starved for affection who will try to befriend anyone and everyone she comes across.

Accepted :> You don't see many blind characters, especially ones that are schoolteachers, so I look forward to seeing how you play her! Also, the "Theme" portion refers to a theme song for your character :) Just for fun of course, you don't have to have a theme if you don't want to.

I'll be sending you your character's accommodation right before the RP starts. :)

Name: Angelique Mode.
Age: 28.
Gender: Female.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Job: Psychiatrist and behavioral therapist.
Appearance: Angelique stands at five foot and eight inches when in heels, flat footed she is only a modest but respectable five foot six inches tall. She has vivid green eyes which are ringed with a dark gold at their outermost edge and has an attractive enough face and features. Often she can be seen wearing her long black, button down coat with sash. Under which is usually an array of clothing that ranges from smart to smart casual, whether obvious or otherwise often this involves a corset or basque of some kind. She wears little make up in general, not really having a lot of time for it but does her best to make herself look presentable, usually opting to put her mid-back length chestnut hair up into a messy bun for convenience.
Personality: Angelique is a damaged person, it is her strongest asset when dealing with clients, she has run an emotional and mental roller coaster her entire life. She has experienced first hand the powers the mind has over the body and likewise a psychiatrist has over the mind. Her friends would call her studious, quiet, perhaps even a bit of a hermit but she would much prefer staying in with good company and some fish and chips than going out on the razz and getting drunk. She has a love for animals but due to her long hours and her own emotional baggage she feels it unfair to own any pets. She had an awful victim/bully relationship with her mother, who often played a victim while beating and busing Angelique, though her death only a few weeks prior has left Angelique never the less grief-stricken. She is the type of person who once she sets heart heart on something aims to achieve it and doesn't quit, though a lot of criticism or negativity will occasionally set her back a bit. She is claustrophobic and sociophobic to an extent, preferring not to be in small places or around a lot of people. She suffers from 'night terrors' a left over trauma from her childhood but has learned to accept these nightmares and in some ways control them through lucid dreaming (not that it always works mind you). Preferring to observe she never really 'switches off' from work, meaning new people find it rather odd at first to be around her until she drops her guard. She hopes one day to be able to better treat and cure PTSD in her patients and her largest fear is going clinically insane as her mother did before she took her own life.
Background: Sometimes it was easy to remember the good days, the days when her mother smiled and laughed and when father actually came home. Other times the other memories came up and made it much harder to remember those few golden moments. She had lived in a small, private property with her parents and their dog 'Jeffers' the border collie. While at first their was only happiness at their little 'Angel's birth it soon seemed to take a toll on the family, her mother took up smoking and cried while her father, uncertain what he'd done wrong and getting nothing but an array of verbal and sometimes physical abuse went out drinking. One particularly awful day when little Angelique was crying; she'd soiled her nappy and needed changing, in the midst of one of their pointless arguments the dog started barking. Thoughtlessly them other whirled on the dog and smacked it with a heavy glass ash tray, there was a crack and the poor dog lay whimpering on the ground. Jeffers was later put down after his 'road accident' and that was the start of a slippery slope. Eventually her father stopped coming home for days at a time and as Angelique grew older she learned she had to fend for herself, her mother, constantly waiting for her fathers return, grew violent if Angelique so much as spoke and so the girl fed herself and learned to clean her own clothes. Sometimes she took a second helping at school or pinched something from one of her friends. There were the odd visits, when Angelique turned up with bruises or scratches but they came to a clean and tidy home and a smiling woman who could act like a saint when it counted. her father eventually stopped coming over altogether and while he promised to take her away too nothing ever came from it. Her mother only grew more despondent and easier to anger, she had 'melt downs' which often involved throwing and breaking furniture and crockery and she learned quickly not to be nearby when that happened. Angelique had grown up with it all her life, her mothers rage turning to her mothers sobbing begs and she assumed that while not 'average' it was somehow supposed to be the way things were.

She learned otherwise when she turned thirteen and her mother, enraged at the idea her daughter had been out with friends an hour after school and certain Angelique was leaving her too stabbed the girl in the hip. As Angelique cried for the first time in years the mother realised what she'd done and phoned for both an ambulance and the police. Angelique having to stop the woman killing herself before they arrived while dealing with her own blood loss. It was revealed that there was a number of things wrong with her mother which had snowballed to the current problem she was now manifesting. She didn't' understand the terms they were using but she knew what one meant 'clinically insane'.

Determined to figure out why this had happened she spent the remainder of her hospital stay and her time once at her new school; now living with a pleasant foster couple, to pour over every book she could find about psychology. Her mother was institutionalized but she often visited, if nothing more but a progress report from her doctors and to pay the fees to keep her there. She tried several times in vain to contact her father but it seemed he'd disappeared a few months after the last time he left and hadn't been seen or heard from since.

After graduating and attending university she was able to land a position at the very hospital her mother was kept at, with a licence to practice and a keen insight into behavioral analysis she was a welcome member to the team and rose through the ranks from 'newbie' to a senior member of staff. Unfortunately her mother never did get any better and during a regular 'free session' managed to fashion her bed sheets into a noose and hang herself. Angelique is currently on 'compassionate leave' and chose this spot to get away from it all.
Accommodations: --
Quirks: She counts rosary beads to keep calm. When she's getting angry/nervous she tugs at the hem of her clothes. When people are getting angry/prone to violent outbursts she momentarily freezes and covers the scar (sub consciously) her mother left her. When deep in thought she lightly chews on her lower lip or on a pencil/pen if its to hand. She has no idea what to do when approached by a man or by a woman but feels more 'in control' around other women. She turns her tea cup clockwise two full rotations before drinking, not even she knows why she does it but the tea doesn't 'taste right' unless she does.

Sorry this took me so long; got called into work. I love all the work that's been put into this OOC. :)

Name: Zachery Travers
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Asexual
Job: Librarian

Appearance: (I hope a description is fine by itself; I hate trying to find pictures) Zach is a tall, lanky man who could easily be described as bony. His facial features, especially his nose, are sharp and aquiline. It would be accurate to describe his nose as a beak, and if you did he would probably agree with you. This contrasts with his medium length curly auburn hair which is almost always an unstyled mess. He also has blue eyes and long thin fingers, which are almost always cold. Zach makes it a priority to dress neat, usually wearing dark slacks, dress shirts and his favorite black duffle coat.

Personality: Zachery is child-like in nearly every way. He has a serious love of anything fun that extends to outdoor activities like hiking and sports, (though he is abysmal at sports) and indoor activities like board games or even crafts. He will do anything except watch television. Zach's general manner walks the line between childish and flat out immature; it wouldn't be odd to hear him giggling like a girl or blowing a raspberry. It's not in his nature to talk seriously about anything. Though he loves acting silly he wont stoop to pranks because he knows that people's feelings get hurt. He is an entirely different person when he is at work, however. At the library he is quiet, studious and entirely task-focused. Zach is also very pliable and can be easily convinced to do just about anything with no questions asked. Appropriately, he has a fear of the dark despite being an adult. It is a fear that he never grew out of and only got worse as he got older. He is not a person of the world and is often amazed by sights that well traveled people would call trivial. In general, he is friendly with most people and wants to be liked, though he can be selfish at times. He also loves the outdoors and likes to sketch as an amateur hobby.

Background: Zachery grew up in upstate New York's suburbs with his adopted family; his two parents Jack and Marsha, and his sister Angela. His adoption was never a secret. His parents told him once he was old enough and they were a healthy happy family. Zach never found out who his real parents were and he never wanted to know, just thinking about why they would have given him up would depress and anger him. Besides, his adopted parents were good to him, so he never gave his biological parents a second thought. School was different however, and throughout his entire education he was singled out and teased because of his gangly frame and his lack of a dating life. He took solace in books and piano lessons, and although he was good at playing, he never really continued past high school. Zach was quiet in school and wild at home. In college he met his best friend Brian Hanson, and the two became roommates soon after that. After college training he became a librarian for a public library and has been there for two years. A week ago Zachery received a letter informing him that his biological parents were killed in a car accident. The shock of finding out who his real parents were at the same time hearing about their death was trying, so Brian convinced Zach to let him tag along on a vacation to Deer Mountain.

Accommodations:

Quirks: Zach can't help but fidget when he gets bored, and will unconsciously tap his fingers in a piano playing motion when he has to sit still for a long time. He never reads during the daytime, only before bed, though this might be an excuse to leave the light on for as long as possible. The stress of the past week has led to him leaving the light on at all times instead of just when he's reading. Zach also doesn't deal with anger and fights well, and tends to either shut down mentally or hide in a different room.
