I'll take Wilson's disinterested emoticon as a sign that at least one person hasn't stopped watching the thread! Woo-hoo! I'm trying to be positive here, people :).

For clarification on my upcoming post: Dragons eat precious metals for healthy scale. I say this because it gives them an actual reason to hoard, beyond greed and love of shininess and wealth. Eat pure gold and iron/steel every day, you'll have thick, strong scale that shines. Eat just iron/steel, you'll probably have thick and strong scale, but it won't be so shiny. Eat just gold, and it'll probably get a little less thick, but would weigh less, and shine brighter than without gold. Lead would probably make scale heavier; tin would probably strengthen other metals' attributes. Is this agreeable with everyone?

That seems like it might be a tad bit confusing. I assumed dragons just hoarded because it was in their vary nature to conquer and to amass treasures. Kinda like how Dwarves in LOTR had a natural greed and affinity towards valuables.

Then how does a dragon's hide come from? Bone? Magic? Metals could give it that strength, and provide a reason for a hoard

Dragons were always described as having just naturally strong hides, except for their underbelly. Now, being dragon lords, it is entirely possible to say magic could come into play. I'm not saying it's a bad idea you've got. Just that it's a little confusing/tough to keep up with.

Think minecraft: Gold shiny and expensive, but not good for using. Iron/Steel strong and durable, but not exactly a sign of wealth.

I like Wilson's idea better. Sure, dragons have a natural tendency towards conquering, but eventually at least some of the less-ambitious dragons would be satisfied with the wealth they had amassed. If they are constantly and literally eating away their most valuable possessions, they would have more motivation to go out and attack to hoard more, or demand tribute from humans. It gives our characters a compelling motivation to reestablish dominance over mankind beyond simple dragonic pride.

Good to see that some of the people that are in this roleplay have been on recently and not bothered to post. That's always cool.
