The huntress smiled as she saw the others enjoying her food and cut away a small sliver from the venison on her plate with her knife, popping the morsel into her mouth and savoring the sweet, earthy flavor of nature's bounty. To her, especially seeing everyone at the table eating, drinking and merrymaking, it felt more this band of rebel-rousers known as the Thieves Guild were more akin to a happy, yet dysfunctional family, similar in many aspects to a family of her past life. She could hear them again, the clanking of tankards filled to the brim with mead, the hearty laughter over a few bawdy, raunchy jokes passed around along with a shanty or two sung by haggard drunks passionately....and the voice, the gruff yet gentle song of Torvald Stone-Hide. The guild was her home now, yet her heart ached for the days of a brigand.
As she drank of her ale and took another bite of venison into her jaws, she happened to notice that nosy hawk of hers eyeing Simbad's eyepatch, only expecting for the cheeky bird to take flight again with it in his talons. Damn thing, he was always grabbing whatever, maybe for a jest or just natural curiosity. There was one time Hotarubi returned with an amulet she pilfered off a merchant, a very beautiful bauble with a lovely, center-cut diamond encased in purest silver, but then Dmitri caught shine of it and away he was with the amulet in his beak, unfortunately dropping it in those filthy sewer waters. It took Nira all night just to find the thing, and when she did, she and the amulet reeked with filth. They would have been lucky to get a few coins for it at the fence.
To dissuade the red-tail from any mischief, she glared over to Dmitri and shook her head. He got the message clearly and instead of making off with Simbad's patch, the bird instead flew over to the couch little Nadia was sleeping on and landed, covering his head with his wings and going to sleep himself. Nirayane then turned to Chloe, giggling on the inside. She was a woman, mature indeed, yet she acted as if a child pushing her vegetables aside.
