I don’t like politeness, but I like kindness. And from the definitions I was given as a child, one was created by people – “manners” and “etiquette” – and the other stems from one’s heart. Politeness is a social custom, but kindness is done with love. I don’t think kids should be taught how to be polite, but rather speak with love. They should learn how to be conscious of the effect their words and actions have on other people.
