Nations Name:
The Kingdom of Lancia
Flag:
Form of Government:
Feudal Monarchy
Describe the System:
The Kingdom of Lancia is divided into 5 constituent baronies, these baronies being the Barony of Hantan, the Barony of Numburg, the Barony of Prukin, the Barony of Wutenman, and the Barony of Sliskan. A 6th separate zone is set out from the baronies that contains the capital of the Kingdom of Lancia, which is where the König, or King of Lancia rules from. The 5 baronies are ruled over by a Herr, or Lord. The Herrs swear fealty to the King. The Baronies have very limited autonomy, but for the most part the King has the final say, the Lords act as Governors and liaisons in the Baronies for the King. The title of König is hereditary, however in the event the last Herr of a Barony dies without a heir or commits treason against the König then the König reserves the right to grant a new noble house the title of Herr.
Location on Map Desired:
Of a quick note in regard’s to Lancia’s border is that the Barony of Hantan has a de jure claim by The United Kingdom of Corustaria, the Barony of Hantan including Lancia’s sole island and a small chunk of the southern coast. While Lancians lived in the Barony of Hantan’s land the Barony of Hantan was once an independent Kingdom, the King of Hantan ended up marrying the Corustarian Queen, and when the King died the title should have transferred to the Queen, but due to laws in Hantan at the time females were not allowed to rule over Hantan, and thus the Queen lost the title. The Kingdom of Lancia moved in occupying the land, much to the joy of the Lancians living there. Shortly after this however the Parliament that had been there managed to repeal the no females law due to pressure from Corustaria. While Lancia dissolved the Parliament and still formed the Barony, this technically gives Corustarian Queen a de jure claim to the Barony. The König has however claimed ever since the incident that due to the common culture that Hantan shares with Lancia and the fact that people there want to be apart of the Kingdom of Lancia that it makes the title irrelevant. This has been a point of diplomatic tension between the two Kingdoms, however it has not devolved into war yet.
Capital: Primus is the Capital of Lancia, and is straight in the middle of the nation, having been commissioned after the independent Kingdoms formed the Kingdom of Lancia. The Rhine river runs right through Primus, making Primus important for trade and communication to the rest of the Kingdom. The city is the largest population wise, and has one of the biggest military bases in the nation. The Palace of the König and the royal family of Lancia is also here.
Important Settlements:
Hanover: The Capital of the Barony Hantan, it rest of the sole island that Lancia controls. It is the second largest city by population and controls most of Lancia’s seafaring trade.
Numburges:The Capital of the Barony of Numburg, it is the 3rd largest city by population and is a important financial center. It holds the HQs of a lot of state-owned businesses, and has the second largest army base.
Description:
Lancia very much holds a military tradition, often referring to their military as warriors rather then soldiers. This tradition dates back as far as the Ancient Lancian Tribes, and was one of the main reasons the Norian Empire sought to control the Lancian tribes, due to their extreme combat prowess. Lancia’s religion is a pantheon of Gods, unlike the other monotheistic religions of Edoniras. The Gods have no actual names, but are referred to by what they represent. While their are 100s, the 4 most important and often referred to as the big four of the Heavens are the God of the Sky, the God of the Sea, the God of the Underworld, and the God of War. The God of War is the one most Lancians look up to, due to their warrior tradition. The God of the Sea is often seen as the trickster of the four, due to Lancia’s shaky history with naval affairs.
Lancian culture also commends honor and glory in battle, with one of the most famous quotes of a Lancian General being “A Lancian is not truly Lancian till he has entered the battlefield and won glory and honor for his family.”. The Iron Cross is used to denote veterans of the Lancian Army, and is a sign that that soldier has honored blood. Lancians also believe education to be essential to the strength of a nation, so their education program is extensive for both men and women. This has often been called responsible for Lancia’s many great men.
While Lancian culture is Patriarchal, in the past years they have eased up a bit more to the idea of women having rights and authority. In the Barony of Numburg, the Barony of Wutenman, and the Barony of Prukin, all of them have granted women full rights and the secession laws for the Herrs was changed so that the only thing that matters is the age of the child, with the oldest inheriting the title, the König even declared that in Primus Women had full rights and that only age mattered when inheriting the royal title. The Barony of Hantan has changed it so that women may inherit, but only if their are no male heirs. The Barony of Sliskan is the last barony not to allow women to become the Herr, however they have made it so that a Königin, or Queen can still be on the throne in Primus, due to the fact that de jure the Herrs actually rule over the baronies with the Herrs just admitting Hegemony and swearing fealty, despite the de facto power of the Königin or König which grants them near unlimited authority over the Baronies.
