I'd likely play a full orc or human, maybe even an elf, if no one else is (fat chance of that happening though ^_^)
I've actually never seen anything about them being a blend of two species. Everything I saw about Elans is that they're normal people who underwent a ritual performed by other Elan to transform them into one, with nothing said that it's a mash together of two races.

It was in my friends D&D book, he told me about them. They get no racial benefits because they get all negative and positive effects from the two races and -1 Charisma for being Elan

That sure as hell ain't from any edition of D&D I've ever played. They had racial stats of their own in 3.0, 3.5 and Pathfinder.

They have certain abilities, influenced by their Psion nature. They can spend a power point and not eat for a day for example. There are different models of Elans apparently. I can probably find the place I read it in, but there is the one you speak of too.

I think Power points are from 4th edition? I don't recall exactly. It's a moot point as this game would have exactly 0 statistics/numbers.
