@t2wave Yeah I hear ya -- thanks for sticking it out though! :) I did attempt advertising this for new players at least twice, and I guess we could've accepted the wolf, but .... yeah. XD
@drewccapp, sorry but I think honestly this RP is a goner. Might try a reboot in the far future -- but both of you are in at least one of my other RPs so I can't say I feel extremely bad about letting this one down.
So, I guess I'll let you guys know what's ACTUALLY going on on this doomed ship, which is basically impossible to figure out given what's been going on, which is totally my fault but here we go:
The ship was originally a pirate galleon that was minding its own business when it was sucked down into this weird ocean where the stars are screwed up. Through their adventures in trying to get back home, they managed to unleash a terror upon this weird new world, which terror is actually the Shadow Thing that certain characters could see standing creepily in the corner.
Shadow Thing is the puppet master: it can control corpses, or create zombie workers if you will. The monster in the engine room is just a dead beastie that the shadow thing is controlling. When the other PCs died in the engine room and were locked in, their corpses became puppets of the Shadow Thing and began stoking the fires and making the engines run.
Shadow Thing summoned all you people on the ship so it could use you to fire up the ship and fly (yes, fly, the engines are airship engines) off to a super secret location, since Shadow Thing is just a shadow and can't touch things by itself. It has summoned people before you, and it will continue summoning people after your corpses are rotted and no longer usable, until it gets what it wants.
The fox and the plantlife are feebly trying to keep you alive long enough to make it to land and possibly destroy the ship. The plants have been trying to jam the gears and pull the ship apart as much as possible, but then have to stop to save the people just summoned, so it's a no-win situation.
@drewccapp I amuse myself by thinking of this as a prequel to Lantern, which takes place a century before Lantern: the story of the original Pirates, how they ended up in this world, the origin of the Kith and why it's always night. ;)
