Chapter One: In Favor of the Lady

"It's a dangerous business going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
-Bilbo Baggins

~ 2950 in the Third Age of Middle Earth
It was an odd time and an eerie peace seemed to swell over the land, just like a calm before a storm. The Elves were quiet in there continued isolation but ever present. The Dwarves, having recently recaptured Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, enjoyed a great peak of satisfaction in life as many dwarfs flocked to Erebor's rebuilding. Talk of reclaiming Moria becomes a common rumor. The lives of Men were flourishing as Dale began rebuilding alongside the dwarfs. Attacks against Gondor have increased but have largely remained unsuccessful. The world seemed to be approaching a climax and the recent events of concerning Erebor were just becoming public knowledge but the event surrounding Dol Guldur were still kept a secret only told behind closed doors.

--

Rivendell was quiet at night. Not many Elves had the desire to wander about at night it seemed. Only a few sentries and their armor could be seen glittering in the moonlight. Of course the sentries weren’t the only ones still up, Caldara, herself was up. She was situated on some type of reclining bench, drifting in and out of sleep. Occasionally after she stirred awake, she would glance around to see if anything changed.

The Dúnedain gave a great big yawn and she stretched along the bench. Like clockwork, she groggily glanced around. The open-aired vista in which she was resting in had remained the same. Nobody was sitting at the round stone table and her two sponsors, a male elf and a female elf, were still looking out on the balcony talking very little in a hushed tone. The male was Elrond, famous elven lord and this was his domain by definition. The female was unmistakably Galadriel with that long flowing blonde hair and a beauty that had even entranced Caldara from time to time. Those two probably had a lot to talk about if half of the things she heard were true.

Caldara gave another yawn and stretched, it was around the time that they would be expecting their Sentinel. A Dwarf who had a fair reputation of being a battle-hardened veteran coming off of the recent Erebor battle.

Narvi loved the elven lands. Whilst with being with other dwarves, and amongst dwarf cities, he felt home. Being in the elven lands always made Narvi happy and content. There was something so soothing about the delicate and enigmatic people. Narvi had been called to Rivendell a few weeks ago and had made his arrangements as soon as possible. Whilst you never kept Lady Galadriel waiting, Narvi also had a desire to leave the endless monotony of Erebor. When he had arrived with Dain Ironfoot battle and exploration were the objectives, but with the victory in the Battle of Five Armies Erebor had become a lot calmer and almost all resources were diverted into restoring peace and rebuilding the stronghold. Which of course Narvi's hopes of some loot were squashed quite quickly and instead he was left lugging stone too and from the battlements. Here in Rivendell however, there was a chance at more adventure and the glimour of treasures lost to others. This was made even more alluring by the wording of the summons, or a lack of wording. Keeping Narvi's imagination in overdrive. Though after such a long journey through Mirkwood and into Rivendell, Narvi was just happy to be able to lounge and smoke. He had been given a small room that overlooked a lake and wa enjoying the view when he spotted a small party of elves gossiping and weaving near the waterside. Narvi had decided to arrange himself on a bench nearby and proceeded to smoke and observe the elves as they enjoyed themselves. And even after the sun had set and the elves had gone home, Narvi continued to relax. The rays of sun glimmered and sparkled on the water surface and created dancing patterns all across the lake.

As Narvi reached the end of his pouch he decided to stop blowing smoke rings and instead set about finding his summoner. Quickly talking to an orderly he asked that another pouch of pipe weed be delivered to his room and then asked for directions to Elrond and Galadriel. The orderly was happy to oblige and soon Narvi was walking up the winding stone staircases, in an attempt to find the specific vista that he was requested at. The only problem Narvi had ever found was that elves were, typically, a lot taller than dwarves and so the architecture was not designed to allow a dwarf too much of a view. Turing into a few more long hallways Narvi finally found himself on what appeared to be a very open platform, raised above Rivendell, though still quite covered and could easily be put forward as a room in the warm weather, commanding spectacular views all around from the balcony. Braziers were attached to the walls and to the balcony illuminating the three other individuals in the vicinity. The first two were easily recognisable. Elrond, lord of Rivendell and his host, wore long flowing robes with intricate embroidery and was hunched over the edge of the balcony with the other easily recognisable character. Galadriel was in a much plainer white dress which flowed down to her ankles, and yet she still managed to make the outfit even more spectacular than Elronds. The final person Narvi did not recognise. A human, as far as Narvi could tell, was curled up on a lounging bench much like the one Narvi had been on earlier. She appeared totally relaxed with the situation, though her journey could have been even longer than Narvi's and she could be even more tired than he was. Walking in quietly he was not surprised too see Elrond and Galadriel turn quickly. Bowing low Narvi introduced himself.

"Narvi Rockbeard, son of Ragnar Rockbeard and Defender of Erebor." A title he had been given by Dain, along with the rest of the dwarven forces left alive. "I was summoned to appear before you and so here I am." Narvi paused, before giving a wry smile, he always loved to smoke with a view, and he hadn't seen a better view than that of the balcony. "I don't suppose you have any pipe weed around do you?"
