The known universe is split into three planes - the Ethereal, the Illusory and the Eternal. We humans live on the Illusory plane. The Mers inhabit the Ethereal plane and the Gods slumber in the Eternal plane. The Mers are the lords of the elements and the mountains and rivers. They live under a divine code - to never interfere in human affairs; and to never share their knowledge to a human. Naturally, rules are meant to be broken, and some Mers have indulged in ‘playing god’ with the unwary humans.
But this time, things have taken a turn for the worst. Baalog the Mischievous, the Mer Lord of Dreams, challenged Talmad the Wise, the Mer Lord of Knowledge and the King of all Mers, to a game of dice. Talmad, in his infinite wisdom, realized Baalog’s intentions but went along with it anyway, urged on by Sama, the Mer Lady of Time. As expected, Baalog cheated and won, and demanded that Talmad close his eyes for five blinks of Sama’s eyes. The moment Talmad closed his eyes, Baalog made his way to the Illusory plane where time passes much faster. By the time Sama finished blinking five times in the Ethereal plane, 200 years had passed on the Illusory plane where Baalog had been busy. Taking the form of a human, Baalog called himself Lord Burug. Using his powers, he infected men’s dreams, creating chaos across the world, sending able-bodied men to depressed deaths by making them see the same nightmare over and over again. He broke the will of kings and queens, brought entire kingdoms to collapse and lost himself in the madness. While his powers remain the same, he has forgotten that he is Baalog, and has fully become Lord Burug - King of the Night.
When Talmad opened his eyes, he perceived the destruction Baalog had wrought and continued to wreak. To put a stop to Baalog, he sent out summons to every Mer in the Ethereal plane. The message was clear: Assume human form and descend to the Illusory plane. Destroy Lord Burug. Do it quickly.
For the longer Mers stay in the Illusory plane, they either lose their powers or their immortality.
You can be one of the Mers, or humans, or even the Mighty Baalog if you think you can pull it off. If you are a Mer, you can choose one of these dominions: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Beasts, Trees, Love, War, Death, Light, Darkness. In the OOC, I will put detailed information about each dominion and what the respective Mers can do on the Illusory plane.
