Yeah sorry Dondude, I did the best I could coming up with some distinctive roles for the ship but after a while I ran out of ideas. But definitely come up with something you think is interesting beyond a generic sailor role or whatever. Maybe a specialized role like a thief or spy would be useful for infiltrating ships and disarming defenses before a coordinated attack. Or a Loremaster who knows what to salvage and what to dump. Hope you come up with something you like - and like you said, an antagonistic character could work too.

I'm currently toying with the idea of a swashbuckling young miss who's the representative (possibly a relative) of a client who's officially been sent aboard to ensure the client's business is handled correctly, unofficially to get rid of her for a bit as she's still very innocent or idealistic and to be honest is a bit of a pain. She doesn't mind working like a normal crewmember, but is likely to be shocked the first time the crew go all out pirate on her.

Also, @Isengrim, please remove me from the Master Gunner slot - I don't think the character I have in mind is much of a combatant, so I'd prefer to invent my own role. Possibly some sort of infiltration/reconnaissance specialist?

I was also considering something along the idea of what @bakugou is thinking, aka the infiltration/reconnaisance/spy type, but I'm more than happy with her taking it.

In which case I'd really like to play the other character you mentioned, a loremaster who could be the one who knows what to salvage and sell, aka play as the silver-tongued barterer/politician role, maybe even act as the captain's bureaucratic representative/over-the-shoulder pundit?

Otherwise I could also take the now open Master Gunner slot if nobody else wants it, but I'm sure somebody else will want to play it.

Considering whether or not it's in poor taste to make my character an Urgist. What's the running tally so far? Do we have a set ratio of caith-users to the mundane?

You should be fine - we only have two characters so far and neither are urgists. I'm guessing XSilentWingsX and 71342 might be urgists based on their chosen roles, and I don't think we know about anyone else yet. Even if we have multiple urgists I'm betting they'll be playing completely different roles - maybe your character has incredible finesse and can use her spells to move undetected amidst her enemies and wreak havoc behind the lines, and maybe another character has incredible strength and can send a gale ripping along the decks of an enemy ship. Different charas, different skills... I say go for it if that's what you want ^^

For the record I am planning on my character being an urgist, though I haven't yet decided on the exact strengths and weaknesses of that power yet. I'm thinking a stronger, not as precise power, since that seem to make the most sense for my chosen role, but I'm open to change or suggestion. I'd also be fine with having a non urgist character, because then they could be a character who's become a sailing master despite not having the power, and that would be an interesting angle perhaps. Hmmm decisions... I guess for the moment put me down for being an urgist?

What are the common weapons used (especially by pirates) at this time in Allevent? I know there's pistols and various other firearms about, but are swords and the like still commonly used, or has the technology now available thanks to caith crystals made that kind of weapon outdated?

Yes, older melee weapons are still very much in common use. There doesn't seem to be any gunpowder as such, so 'firearms' are specifically ranged weapons that use ferrum, and are pistols. Blundergust is a stannum weapon that is essentially a blunderbuss/shotgun. Lotta made mention of a Lightning rifle which I imagine uses lumen and is something like a bolt-action rifle.

Let's say these ranged weapons are somewhat expensive to use since they require caith crystals, and maybe they're not quite as powerful as comparable gunpowder weapons - so melee weapons like swords/spears/axes are still very common.

Master Wright, knows where the ship is the weakest since constantly repairing those exact weak spots.
Uses expensive mines to down the entire enemy ship.
Realizes the only way to plant the bomb is to get on board and fight off the enemy, meaning you've obtained the ship

I have to delay my writing up a character so @Dondude you can play a doctor in my stead meanwhile, I'm having some healtbh issues right now and have to visit a laboratory every so often - more than allows for writing in here unfortunately.

I'll check back as much as I could afford to meanwhile and maybe contribute in some other way.

Having a bit of trouble deciding on a suitable alias for my character. Names are easy, titles are not.

Also, @Isengrim, is it safe to assume each race has their own distinct spoken language?
