They're closely related to dragonflies and a lot of people get them mixed up or aren't even away that there's a difference, just like moths and butterflies. The two best ways to tell them apart is that the wings of damselflies generally fold when they land while dragonflies generally don't, and that, if you can get a close enough glance, the eyes of damselflies are spread wide apart while dragonflies aren't. And as for me, I think of millipedes (which, fun fact, are the oldest land animal fossil that we have, meaning they've been around for pretty much forever) as the gentle children of the creepy-crawly world, but moths are a close second.
And yes, their eyes are truly gorgeous.
