As the monk's bracer covered arm deflected his blade, he saw him raise up his right arm to bring it down hard against his back. There wasn't any avoiding this so he let the hit come. Besides, there was an advantage to being on the floor.
The elbow smacked right onto the meat of his back, sending him down towards the ground. However, as the monk foolishly swung his knee upward for what he presumed was to be a knee to the face, all he did to avoid it was to shift and turn over to the left slightly, since he was mostly on the floor at that point with his right side facing the monk.
A moment was all it took for Daniel to switch the grip on his katana from backhand to forehand, and he used the monk's raising knee as a point of weakness. With a flick of his wrist and a raise of his right arm, he brought his sword up between the monk's legs, the blade aimed for the bottom of his right thigh, near the back of the knee joint. The blow was angled slightly with a shift of his wrist so that the blade would cut perpendicular to the rising knee and, though light, had the momentum of his wrist flick behind it and would cut deep from how sharp the sword was.
