The rain was falling heavier than usual in Gotham that day. The clouds were a dark gray as the rain dropped harshly on the backgrounds of Wayne Manor. A very select few were there to pay their respects for a fallen hero. The members attending all wore black, umbrellas shielding them from getting their suits wet. A pretty blonde named Vicky Vale was fighting back tears as she saw the coffin lower in the ground. An older man with graying black hair stood staring down at the coffin as well, a red headed girl holding on to him as she wept silently. Commissioner Jim Gordon and his daughter Barbara payed their respects. And older gentlemen who is now CEO of Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox stood with his hands crossed, muttering a soft prayer. The Wayne's long served butler, Alfred Pennysworth, was no doubt there as well, trying hard to keep back tears... By his side was a younger man named Tim Drake, also giving a solemn stare.
The last one to arrive was a taller man, short black hair, and a muscular frame. He held his umbrella as he walked over to the little crowd, looking over at the coffin being laid to rest. It has been a very long time since he has set foot in Wayne Manor. An even longer time since he saw a loved once's funeral... But he knew he wasn't dead. Come on, Bruce? It had to be for show. And with his detective skills, he had a feeling it was. He silently took his place next to Alfred, the man looking over at him with a grim smile. "Master Grayson... I wish that we could meet again under more pleasant circumstances... How much do you know?" He asked silently.
"I got he jist of it, but I'm sure I'll learn more as time goes on..." Richard "Dick" Grayson said, looking over at the older man. It was all over the news. One night an explosion happened at Wayne Enterprises. Of course Batman was there trying to prevent it, but nothing could stop the attack that Mister Freeze had in store. All anyone knew was that Freeze wanted something, it didn't go to plan, and a generator exploded... and that was the end of Bruce, and Batman... Or so they say.
"How are you holding up?" Dick asked gently, watching the dirt fill the grave. "I wish that I didn't live long enough to see another Wayne buried here..." Alfred said sadly. Dick only nodded. He gave another small smile to Tim Drake, and he returned it. Soon enough everyone started to depart as they said their goodbyes. They even shook Dick's hand as they left. They were there for the will reading.
It was now only Alfred, Tim, and Dick Grayson staring at the tombstone of their friend. Their mentor. Their savior. Bruce Wayne. "Are you ready, Master Grayson? Gotham won't hold back. It needs you to protect it, and now you'll be the newest bachelor in town once word gets out that you inherited Master Bruce's fortune." Dick nodded. "It was his last wish. I'll do my best."
Gotham didn't need Batman right now. But it did need protection. And there was only one person that Batman trusted to defend the city he called home for so many years. Nightwing was now the Protector of Gotham.

Name: Richard "Dick" Grayson
Age: 24
Appearance:
Occupation: Used to be a bartender in Bludhaven, now I'm... a billionaire apparently...
Bio: Well, I guess it all starts with the Flying Graysons! My parents and I were a traveling circus group that specialized in death-defying acrobatic stunts! We were very popular. When we came in to Gotham City, I overheard a man talking to the circus owner demanding for a "protection fee"... He declined obviously, and me being a little kid, I didn't know any better. We started to perform. And during the middle of our acts, one of the bars gave in... I watched my parents fall to their death. To say the very least, I was heartbroken, I was angry... and I felt guilty. The wires connecting one of the bars was broken off by an acid. It was obvious that the man I heard talking to the circus owner did it...
I was now orphaned. I went to a juvenile service system where I was constantly beaten up by fellow "inmates", I went to a catholic orphanage, and then I was adopted by a man named Bruce Wayne. Although he and I made it very clear that he wasn't my father. We both respected each other, and I appreciated that... But I wanted the man who killed my parents to pay... So for the next few days I started hunting down the man named Tony Zucco. I found him, and soon met some of his goons, that's the first time I saw Batman. He took out the guys with ease.. Or at least that's what I assumed. I woke up in the Batcave to see that not only was I saved by Batman, but that he was also Bruce Wayne. He promised that he would show Zucco for who he really was, and he delieivered, but justice never came to him. He died of a heart attack. What I didn't expect at the end of this was the offer of a lifetime: To become his crime partner.
I eagerly accepted.
And so the very intense training began. He started to teach me literally everything I needed to know. Fighting, detective skills, how to improve my acrobatics, other mental exercises, and so much more. Within 6 months I passed his little course. I was Robin, the Boy Wonder.
Things were going pretty well. Time went on, and I was doing pretty good... until one incident with Two-Face lead me to unintentionally kill his hostage, and getting the ever living crap kicked out of me... As a strategic move, I was basically "fired" from being Robin, and started off on my own. I gained a lot of experience on my own. I founded a few other super hero teams, I solved crimes in places like New York, and BludHaven, but in the end... I didn't want to be Robin anymore. Bruce and I constantly disagreed on crime fighting methods, and he was too protecting. I didn't know what to do. I did, however hear a story about a legend who was exiled from his family, who wanted a world filled with justice, and to protect the helpless. He was known as Nightwing... I liked the name, and so it sticked.
Bruce had now gone through two other Robin's. Sure, I felt a bit jealous at first, but then I remembered that I wanted this, to be out on my own and protecting people MY way. My adventures at Nightwing had their pros and cons, of course. I got to help people my way, I became Batman for a little while (long story, but now Bruce and I's relationship strengthened!), and the new Robin, Tim is pretty cool! The cons: Dating is pretty hard, Bludhaven is worse than Gotham, and I've seen things no normal person should... And that pays a toll on you.
I worked in BludHaven for a little while now. It was my little Gotham... but a bit worse. And lonelier. Sure I missed working with Bruce, and Barbara, and the others who worked in Gotham to help keep it safe, but that was Bruce's thing, and we gotta respect that... Until I got the news that he had "died." And that his final will had one request of me: Keep Gotham Safe.
Personality: Quick and Witty. A bit more friendlier than Batman. Smart, courageous, can be a smartass, and very stubborn. Tries to act like a billionaire, but its obvious he isn't. Extremely loyal to the few friends he has.
Skills: Knows how to speak English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, German, Swahili, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Perfect Acrobatic and hand-to-hand fighting skills (can do a quadruple backflip), excellent detective, hacking, stealth, and escaping skills. Peak mental and physical state, indomitable willpower, genius intelligence level, and a lot more, he's a many of many talents!
Equipment: Signature weapons are two escrima sticks, and uses an advanced motorcycle called the Nightcycle, Wing-Dings (like Batarangs, but with my own twist), and other little gadgets.
