RPG meet up In Real Life

It was just a random thought, has it been done before? and how do people feel about it? is it something we could ever try? I know a few other forums have done things like this.

I've never attended a "meet up" of sorts, but I'm meeting one of my online friends next Thursday and we'll be going into New York City together. My other online friend flew in from Kansas on Wednesday and is staying with my family for two weeks. It's certainly possible to meet your online friends, so I don't see why meeting more than one at once would be possible if that makes any sense?

I'd go if it was close. But few things are close to rural new mexico. And I suppose I am a dangerous stranger from the internet, so the kiddos on the internet might not, you know..... that could be a hard sell.

Let's be honest here, nobody who can't pay for themselves would be going to a meet up. Just imagine someone pitching that to their parents.

"Hey, Mom, could you buy me a plane ticket? I want to meet up with a bunch of strangers from the internet!"

Maybe if it were in town, but I don't know most of y'all enough to want to pay money for it or anything.

But if it comes with free food, then i'll be there.

For a big meet up I'm not really interested, but if someone happens to be near me I may catch up.

Then again, I can see this working in places like the UK, US or parts of Europe where population density is higher, but with Sydney I do doubt that there would be many here, and old enough that they don't need parental consensus.

Personally, I'd go if it were held at a civic center or grouped together at a convention or concert organized and approved by the administrators and/or moderators.

Safety first, and all that good stuff.

I think things like this can work, as long as safety precautions are in place to keep everything copacetic. There are people I'd be willing to meet up with, but I've known the majority of them for years. (Talked to online, offline, verified through video chat, etc.) Living in New York City (Manhattan), this is actually a good possibility -- lots of people travel through here or visit from time to time, so I'm well-placed for meet ups.

I've had plenty skype interaction with people I've met here. Hank recently told me he showed some other members around Amsterdam when they visited.

The theory that we're all introverts isn't true in my opinion at all, there's plenty bubbly and extroverted people here I'd be happy to have a coffee/pint with.
