Angelo sighed as he woke up that morning to the sound of his buzzing alarm clock, just another day of boring monogamy. Angelo got breakfast and changed into his school uniform and since he was in his junior year of high school he had to wear a blue tie which identified his year while the seniors had green and the freshmen wore red which seemed appropriate since their the ones who get the hazing and of course the sophomores that had yellow.

Angelo lived in an apartment in California ((only using since its the most recognizable)) taking classes at the local school with his mother while his father was off in god knows where as far as Angelo was concerned. The year is 2050 and technology has advanced far beyond its time as Angelo pressed a button on his green nerve gear and turned off access to the global net making sure that Angelo wouldn't be forced into a duel so early in the morning, Angelo still needed to teach more to his protégé before he would start tag team fighting with him. Angelo installed brain burst years ago and to Angelo it was a way to vent all his frustrations on a single opponent at a time while using his burst points to avoid fights in the real world and also get help on his studies so he can keep passing and get into a good college.

Angelo went to the school they had in Daly city usually a school for your typical san Francisco kids but obviously their were few that didn't fit the criteria Angelo for one since he was born in Puerto Rico and only moved here to get away from his father at least that's what his mother told him. Angelo soon walked past all the crowds and sat in his desk despite the fact that he was the first person their, Angelo liked the quiet and the time to think to himself knowing classes would start soon....

Liliana's alarm clock went off early, but Liliana was already awake. When she had turn 18, it suited both her Aunt and herself for her to get a place of her own. It was a small one bedroom place but Lily loved it. It was hers, and hers alone. Her Puppy, Moe, barked at the alarm clock as if it was a challenger, and Lily laughed. She turned the alarm off, a piece of toast in one hand, and her hair brushed to one side as it dried. She was dressed, and her school pack was ready. She had a small back yard, thankfully, and she had installed a dog door for Moe. she hoped he didn't grow bigger then it. The vet wasn't too sure what kind of dog he was.

She checked everything, finished her toast, and tied her hair up. She had her linker device on her, but not where anyone could see, and she headed out, locking the door behind her, and putting her keys away. She had the link off, s she wouldn't be attacked during school hours. The first time she had taken the link with her to school, only a few weeks ago, she had been forced to duel. Not something she wished to repeat during school times.

Lily dedicated herself to getting good grades, and most of the time, she succeeded. She generally got top grades, except in Maths. She stuggled in maths, but got a good grade in that generally overall. She sighed, already counting down the minutes until school was over. She lived near the school, so it was easier to walk there then anything else, which is what she did. She thought as she did so, humming to herself. She was still virtually knew to the accel world, and yet, she thought she could go far. She just needed to work with her guardian.

She sighed and walked into the school grounds

Kristopher always woke up before his alarm. It really bugged him not to get those last precious minutes of sleep, though he had a habit of staring blearily up at his bedroom ceiling before his alarm finally woke him up completely, so it didn't matter. With a long sigh, he threw off the covers and literally rolled out of bed, cursing when the floor knocked out the last of his lethargy from his head. He picked himself up and headed for the dining room; his mother had already left for work, and warm breakfast was served for Kris beforehand along with a note: "Eat. Do better on test. Mom."

"At least she's feeding me well for it," Kris grumbled, settling down to eat. Between bites, he absentmindedly surfed the web on his Neuro Linker, checking his high school's daily bulletin, though he had no clubs to attend today. If only I lived more north or south, he thought, and I could've been attending school in SoMa or Silicon Valley. His mother didn't make enough to move again however, so for now his education was rather lackluster, even for someone at the top of his grade.

Allowing himself a self-indulgent grin, he switched gears, temporarily closing the internet connection on his Neuro Linker to double check the backdoor program he'd installed recently. This, along with regularly spoofing his IP address, allowed him to anonymously access local networks to check for possible Burst Linkers like himself, to gather information on possible BP "farms" while remaining hidden. He'd gotten to Level 3 this way, and though running low on BP, he'd never once had to Physical Burst, nor was he going down easily in a fight. Plus this was how he spent clubless lunches, where there was nothing to do but eat and relax or Burst Link; he especially enjoyed the pockets in time it created, so it wasn't as much of a guilty pleasure.

Dressed in his school uniform with blue junior tie, he walked the short distance to school from his apartment. Again, he made it to school before even the first bell rang, and grimaced at the thought of lost minutes of sleep piling up.

Angelo put his feet up on the desk looking at the ceiling thinking about his protégé and going to the unlimited zone with her soon. She was getting better but Angelo couldn't tell if it was because she was skilled or because Angelo was a good teacher when it came to the game he has been playing for over a year. All Angelo wanted was to get going and start fighting again, it was only their that Angelo was able to fly as a rare fighter that had real wings. Angelo thinks he has wings because he kept wanting to ascend and join the angels hearing the trumpets and to feel the bliss of being an Angel but his wings are black instead of white because of his hatred for people and their nature to pick on and beat people when their down.

Angelo hard the bell for first period start signaling the beginning of class, Angelo put his feet down and waited for his protege to come in since they were both the same age they had some of the same classes together. Angelo would give her another lesson at lunch on the roof as usual for her lessons. As Angelo waited for all the students and the teacher to come in so they can start class...

As Kristopher walked into class, he noticed a student setting down their feet from their desk, and rolled his eyes. One student may hate school just as much as the next, but it didn't mean they had to openly disrespect it. His name's Angelo, Kris thought, is it? All Kris knew was that he didn't talk much and gave the cold shoulder to everyone but teachers, plus roll call was now done through Neuro Linkers instead of by voice, so most students were rather forgettable.

But settling down in his seat, Kris smirked as he did remember someone important had her seat right behind him: Liliana "Lily" King. An 18 year old junior, flunked (hopefully, he mused) a grade in elementary, introverted to the point of mute, yet answered teachers' questions with judgement & logic, and has shown a soft side around animals, specifically her puppy she walks every so often. Flunkies were nothing new to San Francisco's "shithole", the rude student earlier being no exception, but what made her special was the secret she kept and he presumably uncovered: as prime suspect for the recent creation of Dual Avatar "Green Deer". Ever since the Avatar first appeared in the school network, Kris had been tracking it down, even spectating its first Duel (admittedly impressive) from the shadows. And by taking voice samples from the fight, it was nothing short of coincidence and luck that they matched the girl who happened to sit behind him in class. However, the appearance of a Duel Avatar within school meant her Guardian mostly likely was another student, and thus constantly watching her back, so Kris could make no move until he identified the pair.

He sighed. Not that he wanted to be creepy and stalk her, though no one outside of clubs bothered to notice him these days; he made sure of that a long time ago when he first enrolled in middle school here. Still, the thought of getting so close to another person...Kris dropped his smirk as Lily promptly walked in and took her seat, then the second bell rung.

As Lily walked to her seat, she gave a smile to Angelo, and inevitably, Kristopher as she sat behind him. She didn't even seem to notice that. She settled down in her seat, glancing about her. She always promised herself that she would approach someone, talk with them, but she never did. Still, now she was living on her own, friendship was appealing to her. There were only so many conversations you could have with a dog. She had her things out, ready for the lesson. Since she had started with being Green Deer, Lily had tried to incorporate some of the characteristics of her avatar to her every day life, but it didn't work out so well.

Lily wasn't confident. She wasn't the life of the party, and she wasn't one to simply...be at ease with other people. she had thought on that long and hard, and had considered it the fact that her parents had died when she was young, delaying her entrance into school, and therefore making her one of the oldest students in her class. She always thought that people were judging her, that they would think, especially when she was a kid oh, she failed kindergarden! What a dummy or something along those lines, and thus, she had closed herself off from people, not wanting to tell them the real reason why she was a year behind where she should be.

if they knew, would it make any difference? she thought to herself, hating the direction of her thoughts, but unable to stop herself. At least I've proven I'm one of the smartest here. Although at the moment it was clear she wasn't paying attention as the class began, a somewhat distraught look on her face, as she stared without seeing at her books.

Angelo waved back to lily nonchalantly as if he was being polite about it so nobody would think that they were protégé and guardian. Angelo pulled up the notes on his screen as the teacher called role call. Afterwards he started his lecture and he started to type in his notes as he talked. Angelo knew their were other burst linkers in the school but as far as Angelo knew they weren't going to attack Angelo or his protege to take their points otherwise Angelo would bring his wrath upon them.

The class's in the school went normally as the day went on and after the first class was over the next teacher came in doing their lesson and so on. Soon it was time for lunch which meant it was time for his students training so Angelo stood up going to the cafeteria to get something to eat, this was how both lily and Angelo made sure that they saw each other but to anyone else it would seem like coincidence Angelo would get something to eat while lily would usually go to the rooftop and wait for him once they both had lunch they would go and fight another match as her lesson...

Kristopher took note of the rude student's nonchalant greeting towards Lily. Maybe too daring for a Guardian to acknowledge his Protoge, but until now Kris hadn't noticed Lily approach another student in class, not to mention a male. It would be less suspicious stalking the same gender anyways...

As the bell rang for lunch, Kris took his time getting up, stretching his taut limbs like he was taught to in his karate class. Today's 2 tests had taken their toll, though he confidently assumed he did well on them, "enough to keep Mom off my back." More importantly, he was waiting for the rude student to make his move, as Lily left the classroom beforehand.

Trailing him several paces away, Kris followed the rude student into the cafeteria. In a bold move, Kris lined up right behind him, to reduce time between getting lunch and continuing to follow him wherever. Absentmindedly, Kris flicked through his Neuro Linker's programs, checking the list of students already in VR (all students were required to sign in with real names on the school network), and through his backdoor any Duel Avatars; so far none.

Lily was good at watching people. She was good at coming to conclusions about people, more often then not, correctly, and she frowned as she stood a little ways a way, watching as Kristopher seemed intent on stalking Angelo. She couldn't help but think that was her fault, so taking deep breath, she began to walk past the lunch line. She didn't need to buy lunch, having made her own.

When she was just passing Krisopher and Angelo, she stumbled, crashing into Kristopher she let out a surprised squeak, throwing out her hands to catch herself as she floor came up to her. The jolt from landing caused her shoulders to protest, but she was alright. "OH! OH I'm so sorry!" She said, scrambling up quickly, blushing. "I don't know what happened, I never do, my Aunt always said I was a walking disaster. Oh, god, I'm sorry, are you okay?" She babbled as she stood up, giving a slight grimace as she put weight on one foot as if it pained her.

"I...oh, god, if I had any money I'd offer to buy you some lunch. I'm really sorry. I have some chocolate, if you want that" She babbled some more, hoping to distract Kistopher from Angelo, she began rummaging in her bag, pulling out a chocolate bar, and holding it out, wide eyed.

Angelo walked to the lunch line and just got himself a pizza slice and he looked over to his protégé apparently bumping into that Kris kid. She must have known he was being talked and thought to go with the accident prone schoolgirl routine. Angelo quickly got his lunch and went towards the roof. He opened his Neural linker and sent a private email saying 'thanks and Good work' as he sat on the roof waiting for her to finish her routine

Lily's fall startled Kris, and even more so when she offered him food, as he noticed Angelo out of the corner of his eye slip away. Definitely suspicious now, Kris thought, but if you want to play this game, fine by me. Though another part of his brain was screaming, don't do it you fool!

Feeling his cheeks start to go red, Kris leaned in...and bit down on the chocolate bar. With one hand, he gently loosened Lily's grip & helped her up, and with his other hand took the chocolate bar from his mouth, flourished it in the air before giving her his most winning smile, reserved only for debate tournaments and dealing with other fools in the student body.

"There's nothing to apologize for. In fact, forgive ME, for not stepping in to save you from your fall. May I, in apology, ask to have lunch together? I'm afraid I have nothing better to offer you than your generous portion of chocolate, though I remember you came to the school's tutor program one time for help with math; as a certified math tutor I'd be willing to help you on my free lunch today. Oh, everyone's watching us, I suggest you make up your mind before WE cause more of a scene."

Kris could barely keep his lip from quivering as he spoke (he could not say the same for his face), as he half-dragged Lily along to keep the line moving. And everyone WAS watching, though most of the attention focused on Kris. It's been a long, long time since he'd spoken to a girl in this fashion, even under false pretense, and several of the females in the audience knew the difference...

Lily let out a surprised sound as he leaned in and bit down on the chocolate, despite the fact it was wrapped still. She lit it go, staring at him. She wasn't fooled by his smile, in fact, it put her on edge, and Lily frowned. "Oh, no, I have plans, really!" She said shaking slightly as if she was afraid of him.

She didn't like the fact that he knew she was crap at math, and she certainly didn't want his help if he was suspicious of her, but she didn't see a way out of it. "Maybe tomorrow, though! Or you could help me after school?

But it seemed she wasn't going to be given a choice, as he dragged her along. She was blushing furiously, She flinched at Angelo's message. If he knew that it hadn't been on purpose, would it still matter? She hadn't actually intentionally fallen. It had just happened. She was a walking disaster at times. She had wanted to do something though, to get his attention off Angelo.

"Oh, please, please let me go, I don't do well around guys I don't know well, especially not in front of the whole school. Please, please" She said, her tone a little hysterical. She didn't do well with people, really. Angelo was an exception, he was after all her guardian, and friend. "Please, can we do it after school?" She said, begging now. While she wanted to have more friends, she just couldn't do this right now.

Angelo sighed as he walked through the halls and finally got to the roof and waited for his protégé to come up. What was up with that kris guy wanting to follow Angelo. Maybe he wanted to find out if Angelo had the game installed or if he already thought that he was lily's guardian. Angelo was starting to get annoyed with this guy and was already thinking of some ideas on making him loose the trail. so he decided to send her a message again "if he wont let up don't panic, just sit away from me on the roof and ill make sure to message you your lesson this time. However if he starts to get you uncomfortable then all you need to do is tell him to get away from you and ill come to get you. Remember you are safe when im nearby so don't panic." Angelo messaged her hoping that it wouldn't come to him having to step in and get her away from him since he wanted to stay a secret but he made a promise to lily to protect her from people. He knew better then anyone what happens when the wrong kind of people get to close...

Kris let go of her hand, taken aback. He dropped his smile, feeling guilty for putting Lily in such a state; better to not harm anyone until necessary or later on (while not looking like a creep in the process...). "I-I'm sorry, I acted like a jerk just now...it was just, you falling on me was so coincidental, and I've always wanted to chat with you, it just was never the right moment, being busy all the time. Especially when you came in for tutoring that time, I was willing to help you...anyways, I'm always free on Monday, and I usually don't lunch with anyone, so next week if you want, I can give you extra time outside of tutoring hours after school."

Kris unwrapped the chocolate, broke half off, and gave the wrapped portion back to Lily. "I only wanted half anyways."

Lily shifted uneasily. Could she readily admit that it had been an accident? That would surely be less suspicious. She looked down, embarrassed "I was just going to slip in between you and Angelo. Angelo has been nice to me, and I wanted to ask him if he would take Moe out tonight for a walk. I won't be home until late and Leaving Moe unattended that long would be a danger to my apartment" she said, trying to stay as close to the truth as possible. She indeed wouldn't be home until late, stopping at her aunts but she would have picked Moe up in any case before hand. She didn't like leaving him alone, "I had no intentions of falling, really" she said, looking up, deciding to give him something for all this bother

"I can do Monday" she said, giving him a smile and waving the chocolate a way, "thanks!" She said, and took the chance to dart away, weaving through the crowd, she darted down the halls, and up the stairs, not going a direct route to the roof, but rather a round a bout way in case Kristopher was still suspicious of her, wondering just how this all happened.

She arrived on the roof, a little out of breath, she stopped to catch it

Angelo had long finished his lunch of a single slice of pizza and was waiting on lily to get to the roof. Unfortunately because this entire endeavor took to long Angelo had little time to actually teach her anything. He had planned on taking her into a battle and teaching her on site but with little time to do so he will just have to explain it.

Once she was finally on the roof he walked over sighing a little Alright lily since we are low on time im just going to explain to you what the lesson was going to be about. we were going to talk about using the environment to your advantage for example if their was an area that had many open areas a red player would easily keep an enemy away while still delivering damage from afar. Since your avatar is green your much more resistant to damage itself and as such when you are in a closed space you have an advantage cause even if your up against a blue type you will be able to keep them engaged. myself as a purple type im at home in either case but because of my weapon im more suited to mid to long range fights. their are also environments that have hazards like lava or a long cliff using either to your advantage is key to winning a fight Angelo said and the first bell rang for lunch to be over, he patted her shoulder softly so you after school stay safe so I don't need to come to your rescue. Angelo said but she knew that even if she didn't ask for help he would come to her rescue he was responsible for her well being after all.

Angelo walked down the roof to his afternoon classes which would be different from lily's so for the time being until school ended she was on her own...

Lily nodded, eating her lunch hurriedly as Angelo talked, brushing off her hands when the bell rang and nodded, although she knew she wouldn't ask for his help if she got into a sticky situation at school. She didn't want to have him come to her rescue all the time-she could deal with things.

Maybe sure she had taken her rubbish, she headed down stairs as well, to her next classroom, the dreaded maths class. She set herself up, ready for the lesson to begin, wondering how she had gotten here

Well, I believe I have my confirmation, Kris thought, as he took a careful bite out of the chocolate. He left the cafeteria, and started walking towards the school garden, his usual lunch spot; most of the cliches hung out in the cafeteria or rooftop, so he had a quiet place to himself behind the school, except for the gardener herself who came around on Wednesdays.

Or I maybe butting in on someone's relationship, Kris mused, unlikely yet possible. Either way, he had more cards to play, and it would all depend on the order and when to pull his ace. For now, he was going to take a step back from Angelo, better to have him approach instead. As for Lily...a number of ideas and plans were in store for her, but he had only tonight to think of the best course of action. Kris sighed as he came up empty on the Duel Avatars listing; he may have been hasty in stalking Angelo, and now the pair must be spooked enough not to use the school network for Duels anymore.

Kris finished his lunch just as the bell rang. Heading back to the classroom, he realized something: a girl sitting behind him and a rude boy two seats to his left maybe the closest he'd ever have to someone more than an "acquaintance". Acquaintances, that for now shared one thing in common.

Angelo went to his class and as usual was doing the work as it came even if he didn't really care much about getting it done to begin with. After all school was boring as hell and he needed to play by their rules or risk not getting a job later in life.

Once school ended Angelo went out of school grounds as usual to walk home however something happened and it seemed that hacker had broken into his nerve gear and forced him to be online to the global network which resulted in him immediately being challenged to a battle royal. Angelo had no idea how it all happened and it was happening to fast for him to stop the fight but then he showed up in an arena.

Apparently this one was a dessert wasteland theme which unfortunate for him because all 3 of his opponents were red types all long ranged attackers in an open field. Angelo had his work cut out for him yet he still had no idea someone could hack into nerve gear and force a burst linker into a fight without their consent something was very wrong here but he had no time to waste.

Angelo heard the announcer call out FIGHT! and as soon as they heard that they went to work as two of the artillery type attackers started their salvo of guns and missile barrages their 3rd one was apparently an animal type a lion as it ran towards Angelo to fight but Angelo needed to keep his cool and he couldn't fly otherwise he would be shot down so he had to move running around their attack area avoiding their fire and keeping the lion at bay as best he could with his scythe which was a mid range weapon.....

Even if Angelo was a level 5 against 3 long range attackers he didn't stand a chance he eventually lost his fight in the game and lost a good chunk of bp to them. Now he was wondering if this would happen to lily, he thought he wouldn't have to deal with being jumped ever again!!
