Andrew approached the city ruins. It had once been a might urban area, but now it was only a shell of its former self. Even the city's name had been lost to the sands of time. And actual sand was now encroaching on it. The once-great civilization which had once built the city had reverted back to its old ways of small village farming and pastoral herding. The region's king lived in a small castle on the hill overlooking the desert. No one knew hold long ago the city had been lost, or what had happened to bring it this low.

What was for certain was that the ruins still held powerful magical artifacts. The kind had sent out a call for adventurers with the task of sifting through the ruins and recovering what items were still there. In response, two adventurers had indeed shown up from foreign lands. One was a human mage named Andrew with a bit of elven blood in his veins. Looking upon the city, he beheld its ruined visage.

The other was a woman. She was...something else...but she knew magic well. Her golden eyes only opened when she was trying to observe something with her magical senses. She was quietly following Andrew, listening to the music on the winds and wondering what was going to happen.
Her name was Saria, and she was already missing her two children. She knew, though, that this was an important quest. Opening one eye, she looked Andrew over, curious as to what he was going to do.

Andrew turned and noticed someone following him. A woman.

"Oh! Oh, you startled me. I suppose you are here to investigate these ruins as well? My name is Andrew, by the way. I'm a sorcerer. Maybe you saw that..." he looked at her eyes. "Oh. Sorry."

She smiled softly. "It's ok. Most people don't know until they see my eyes. My name is Saria tyr Ahn-Vie"
The woman had an interesting accent and tilted her head to the side. She observed him a moment and then smiled, showing small fangs. "You seem powerful."

Andrew backed off a bit at the sight of her fangs. Still, she seemed friendly enough, and it seemed like she was on his side.

"Alright, Saria. That's good. I'm heading into this place. They call it the forgotten city. No one seems to know anything about it, and these ruins look... well, they look very fresh, but it is clear that no one has really lived here for a while. I can sense the magic in you, and I suppose you know that I am a sorcerer already."

Noting his nervousness, she closed her lips but kept her smile.
Gently, she reached a hand out. "I have no intentions of harming you."
The young-looking woman simply waited, letting him explain things. She hoped he'd take her hand, as it was a peace-seeking gesture.

Andrew cautiously reached out and gently took her hand. "Alright. I don't really know what we are going to find in these ruins, but we should proceed carefully. There's only two of us, and while we are mages, we may have to fight. Luckily, I have a sword." He took it out and waved it around. He had some skill with the blade, although he forgot that she couldn't see it.

"I can also cast elemental magic spells." He held out his right hand, and a small fireball appeared above it. He tossed the fireball into the air and it exploded with a small burst.

Saria shook his hand and nodded. After this, she let and removed her Tonfa-Blades from their holders at her hips. "I can fight as well. My magic..is odd. Kionen all have strange magic. I mostly shape-shift, but I can do minor things, like a small elemental spell."
The woman stepped past him and started walking, opening both golden eyes to check over the place.
"I sense...a kind of energy, here..."

"Well, that's rather vague. There are said to be powerful artifacts here. This city was home to many powerful mages, temples, and the like. We might be sensing those things. As to what items those are, I have no idea" Andrew explained.

They advanced a bit into the city, seeing the remains of a colonnade, which flanked either side of a road, which split off into several other roads. "Well, which one should we take?"

Saria sniffed the air, getting to her hands and knees and looking over the dirt. She sensed something on the left road and started trotting off, forgetting he was there. As she couldn't see him, it was a simple mistake of memory. When she DID remember, she tripped while trying to stop and turn around.

Yelping, she hit the dirt and started laughing.

"Are, are you okay?" Andrew asked. He knew that mages could be eccentric, but this was odd. "Do you see something? I mean- do you sense anything?" He noticed that she had fallen along the left road. "Is it something on the left road?"

Saria smiled a little, nodding. "I sense something down this road, it has a POWERFUL energy and it's got my curiosity going." Hopping to her feet, she dusted her leather pants off and waited for him to catch up .
Humming cheerfully, she used her odd magic to stir the dust around her in playful swirls.

"Alright. Great. Let's take a look. We both have a means of carrying whatever it is we find, right?" Andrew asked. He had a backpack, but that was it. They soon approached a columned building with a high roof and a small set of stairs leading up. It was probably a temple, and there was an item glowing in the distant, the only source of light in an otherwise dark temple.

She nodded, showing him her belt pack. She held her blades in her hands and crouched, walking low to the ground to make sure the scent didn't disappear on her.
She kept humming softly, trying to put a protective spell around the man. It was in her nature to protect others before herself and she smiled sweetly as she sensed the invisible barrier form around him

"Did you cast a spell around me?" He asked. Andrew raised a hand, releasing a little ball of light for them to see in the temple. They walked up the stairs, stepping into the ruined building. On the walls were a number of human-sized statues, presumably of the pantheon that this temple was dedicated to.

Saria laughed softly. "I didn't think you'd notice. Sorry. I was...worried for your safety. Humans, even human mages, are so much more fragile than I." Finally standing, she looked about. Her blind eyes showed her the energies around them and she smiled. They were not hostile, but welcoming. She walked up to a statue, trying to think of who it would be.

"Well, if I may ask, what are you?" Andrew asked. "And I am part-elf. Not half elf. More like, one sixteenth. But the elven side is rather persistent in me" he told her. "It's why I have slightly pointy ears, really smooth skin, and some other things..." he didn't elaborate on that last one.

Saria looked back, looking a little mysterious in the dim light. "I am Kionen. We are...shape-shifters. Mages. Beings of nature. Lovers of life and art." A smirk went across her face, she was imagining the man and she liked what she saw. A decision was made and she walked RIGHT up to him. "Blind people see through touch...may I touch your face? My curiosity is getting the better of me."

Andrew was a bit nervous, but he agreed. He had never heard of her race. "A-alright. Go ahead." He didn't know if she was truly a beautiful maiden, or an old hag. Or if such distinctions even mattered for a shape-shifter.

Gently, she slid her hands along his face. Getting a good picture, she smirked more. "Very nice. I approve."

Stepping back, she looked down. "This...is not my true form. I can't that anymore. It was sealed to protect me."
