Heyo. I've been reading a lot of Dragonlance books recently, and I've been wondering if anyone would be interested in perhaps start up a roleplay based on Krynn with me? Post-cataclysm.
As for the main story of the RP, we'd have to think something up (probably at the same stake as the books with mythical creatures appearing to herald doom or glory, the gods showing themselves and evil constantly attempting to triumph over good). So far I haven't gotten much more than a vague idea, but I'd like to see if anyone's interested first.

Toss a reply in this thread and let's debate/discuss about what to do, if anything!

BTW: don't expect this as guaranteed to happen, I just wanna discuss ideas!

Edit: Cancelled

What if we start at the beginning of the chronicles but the Hero's of the lance don't regather in Solace for some reason? Ex. Tanis goes with Kit, Raistlin is killed during the test, or Sturm stays with Kit and Raistlin and Caramon split due to the test, Tanis doesn't keep his beard and is attacked on the road? Riverwind dies before he can bring the staff back? That sort of thing.

An alternate story to the war of the lance? Intruiging. I could get behind that, but then we'd have to stick quite closely to the war of the lance lore and try to reshape events into our own plot.

I am currently reading the war of souls trilogy and I'm halfway into the second book, so don't spoil anything!

I haven't really read anything past Dragons of Summer Flame. So don't worry you won't receive any spoilers from me.

Were you looking to come up with our own time in history? I just offered War of the Lance since it was pretty clear what the world would be like.

Aye, that's what I thought too. I wouldn't want to spoil to you what I've read past the Summer Flame, but for mysterious reasons I feel like the war of the lance is a great time to be situated in, in this RP.

I'm thinking every character has some sort of role to play in the events to come, that will change the world, but in my experience it's hard to do this sometimes because when people make their own characters some of them tend to not get along at all. It makes it hard to keep the group together for the sake of plot, when reasonably speaking they'd all part ways because they do things so differently.

I've read just about every novel in the entire Dragonlance series so suffice it to say I'm pretty excited to come across this posting. I'm very keen on playing non-human characters, especially dragons/half-dragons, draconians, minotaurs, etc. I could play both or the dragon half of a rider pair, or any number of other creatures. I'll have to refresh myself on exactly what takes place in the first trilogy but I'm very familiar with D&D/Dragonlance lore. :)

It might be hard for the dm to deal with but the original hero's of the lance went their separate ways plenty of times. Plus we could always adjust each others characters for each other. Then again, Sturm and Raistlin were destined to take seperate paths each adding to the story equally.

Indeed. I'm looking for something "lightweight" however, while still retaining the epic environment of the trilogy. With lightweight I mean something that doesn't require copious amounts of DMing.
Indeed, Sturm and Raistlin were destined to go their seperate ways, and it was important for the outcome of the story. How would we manage such a thing with random people, however?

Depending on how many people join I don't think two groups would be hard to manage... Or there could always some really strong reason for everyone to stick together. Something like they're all part of the same military, or start off as prisoners in one of the prison camps. There could be one strong lead character a sort of Tanis to the group. I'm just throwing ideas out. If you were thinking of something different just let me know. I'm just trying to make this work because I've wanted to do a Dragonlance rp since I read the books.

Me too! Been itching to do a Dragonlance RP but I've GM'd a few RPs lately and they ended with me not being able to GM them anymore because it was too much work while I was way too busy.

But I agree with your idea, it's what I've been thinking too. The group will have to stick together as a whole, their ideals have to guide them to the same end no matter how different they may be. For example a dark-robed wizard might look to increase his power by claiming the power the group wants to destroy as his own, while the gallant knight has sworn to destroy this evil without any sort of reward whatsoever. No matter what end-game they seek, their paths may be different but they are working towards the same goal. The group has to split up sometimes in my opinion, it makes for a much more fun and creates more exciting situations. For example one part of the group is taken captive, the other part have to rescue them from Draconians or something else exciting!

The biggest challange of this RP is however to create a story that drives everyone forward consistantly. Then again, I'm not sure how many will join in.

Well whatever you decide, let me know. Dragonlance RPs are at the top of my list of favourites.

If I remember correctly the war of the lance era saw what was the absence of the gods, but that they returned later on when the heroes called for them. Perhaps we should do something similar - the gods are strangely quiet to answer prayers, and Takhisis gathers her forces in Neraka. Eventually, she releases her wrath upon the world with the aim of claiming it for her own, and with her coming, the dragons too return.
It was a while ago since I read that particular trilogy so I think I'll have some catching up to do, but I think it's possible. What do you guys think?

Well whatever you decide, let me know. Dragonlance RPs are at the top of my list of favourites.

I suppose the interest isn't that great. I'll put this idea on the shelf for the time being, maybe come back to it once I know exactly what kind of setting I want to do. Thank you for your input, Skelace, and your interest, Drache!
