INCOMING APPLICATION

Identity
Kyle Rayner
The (other/future) Green Lantern of Sector 2814

Origin & Backstory
Kyle Rayner was born to Aaron and Mara Rayner, an agent of ARGUS and a recipient of Social Security respectively. Early on in Kyle's life, Aaron died on duty. But because of this, his mother's checks were padded beyond the standard payouts to those on the program. Though there is no mistaking he has no special non-civilian clearance, many high-ranking government officials recognize the Rayners for the family's sacrifices towards a better world.

Growing up in Los Angelos, Kyle managed to go through the severe LA gang wars relatively unscathed, having learned when to wear what colors and how to peacefully defuse conflicts. Even from elementary school though, he had been surrounded by the gangs at all times and had long been under pressure to join them. Over the years he has been panged by seeing his own friends attempt to kill each other because of who else they were friends with, the colors they'd worn, misinterpreted gestures, and even their own ethnicities.

Through it all Kyle had chosen to express himself through art, the pencil being his most reliable companion. His sketches have even won citywide contests and been nominated for national attention. Kyle is without a doubt a gifted art student with specialized skill in biological forms and still lifes. Most often his works are photorealistic, which has led to him being sought out by friends.

Because of his gift with the pencil, he was sought out by a local gang. Afraid of being attacked if he rejected their request, he accepted. All in all, he was taught to use a tattoo gun and forced to portray the gang's logo on a fleshy canvas thirty-two times over. Now thoroughly affliated with the gang, Kyle told his mom. His mother, as one would expect, struggled for a solution. A panicking fit convinced her to pack their bags almost instantly, going from Los Angelos to New York City.

Once in New York City, he was enrolled in the nearest High School, Midtown, where he found himself socially isolated. It wasn't that he necessarily felt there was no one he could relate to, but there was no one he wanted to relate to. Against his own will, he was enrolled in the art club where he exchanged sketches, paintings, and ideas with his peers. Before long, he was drawn into the groundbreaking craze that was superheroes. He began to draw masks, costumes, and weapons in his free time before applying himself to studying history.

By investigating the exploits of the previous Justice Society, he gained a love of studying history and passionately nurtured a love for superheroics. A short while later, he created his own speculative fiction comic series that touched on the lives of the original Flash, Hourman, Green Lantern, and captured them all in stunning detail. His comics capturing the Golden Age of superheroes has since developed a cult following on the internet and has a popular Myspace page.

Having overcome the temptations of gang recruitment and avoided succumbing to a life of total dysphoria, he feels somewhat self-confident in his ability to follow through with his decisions and intends to make the world a better place by following his dreams.

Attributes
Creativity
He recognizes that there is more than one way to skin a cat. This is useful when probing seemingly invincible enemies for a weakness. Even if his ring is, for some reason, ineffective he is prepared to perform environmental attacks, deception, or legitimate diplomacy if the need be.

Drawing
Kyle is capable of drawing highly realistic images with a pencil at (relatively) high speeds. For this reason, any constructs he makes are likely to have a large amount of nooks and crannies, assuming they're not simple geometrical shapes.

Green Lantern Ring
The flagship tool of the GLs allows the wearer to craft holographic, green masses out of concentrated light, directed by their own willpower. Auxilary functions include wireless communications, access to a comprehensive galactic encyclopedia, atmospheric synthesis, and a universal positioning device.

Indomitable Willpower
Necessary for all Green Lanterns is the ability to face their fears. Kyle is certainly capable of doing so, which the ring is able to detect despite his youthful naivety masking his bravery from other sentient life forms.

Character Notes
Kyle suffers from Women in refrigerators syndrome. Listing people he cares about or is involved with would be bad news. But you can expect to see Lanterns, Guardians, various alien species, Soranik Natu, Amon Sur & Black Sun, and the Spider Guild. Kyle is highly unlikely to really be alone. I figured it would be beneficial for storytelling purposes to adapt his tendency to create construct companions from simple battle strategy to character development. So expect a decent amount of imaginary friends (see Circle of Fire for further elaboration of the concept).

Character Goals
What is the nature of the story you want to tell?
It's about great power and great responsibility. Optimism and realism. Freedom and security. But mostly its about feeling like everyone's counting on you, trying to live up to their expectations, filling giant shoes, and figuring things out on the fly. Kyle is steeped in idealism and a simple sense of justice, but doesn't always know how to make the best of his circumstances.

Is this just another Green Lantern?
Yes, for once. He doesn't carry the entity Ion, he isn't the focus of an experiment, and he wasn't a vigilante beforehand. He's Kyle Rayner, an Earthling artist and millenial. But that's probably a welcome change. He'll be the equivalent of a Green Lantern Spider-Man, with his mom worrying about him and his responsibilities competing personally and epically.

How many other people's territory are you crossing into?
That of [Gowi] and [Morden Man]. If there's any involvement with Relic, the Nova Corps, or the Black Lanterns, it isn't my idea. Instead, a focus of mine is going to be the many aliens out there who need the protection only a Green Lantern could offer. Naturally I'll dip my hand into Gowi's bowl of Manhunter action. But by and large, my plans are not a rehash of New Guardians, Blackest Night, or any recent GL "events". Despite wanting to focus on aliens for assignments, Kyle will be drawn back to Earth emotionally for visits whenever he can, whether he is reprimanded for spending time on the third rock from the sun can be decided by the Oans (worked out between myself and the other Lanterns).

What are your major influences?
The rules of engagement in Green Lantern fiction have changed since Geoff Johns took over. Rather than ignoring his impressive body of work and contributions to DCs most unique superhero, I choose to acknowledge it and add it to all that has come before. Throughout the nineties, Kyle Rayner was the only Green Lantern. These are my greatest influences. Even though there are thousands of other Lanterns, Kyle will feel the weight of his sector on his shoulders and often there will be no one to lift it off. Despite the Oan army's numbers, there aren't exactly a lot of them to go around. And the story I want to tell is about the individual underqualified for a job that no one could ever hope to live up to.

Do you have any immediate plans?
Yessiree Bob. First off, Kyle's life will be abruptly interrupted by a recruitment into the Corps with no explanation initially. He won't be aware who Carol Danvers was initially. After a few increasingly difficult training sessions, it's directly off to battle on Mars where he'll face hard contact against an oppressive bunch of White Martians. Spinning out of the chaotic battle is drama I won't elaborate on for the time being.

Alt any time throughout the training period I would be delighted for him to be met by Alan Scott, as I'd imagine them getting to know one another. In all honesty it would be really neat given they are completely different generations of Lantern.

Identity
Khufu Kha-Tarr
Carter Hall
Hawkman I

Origin & Backstory
The Many Lives of Carter Hall
In Ancient Egypt, Prince Khufu had been beloved by his many servants and the nation as a whole. But none bestowed love upon him in volumes even nearing those of his bride to be, Chay-Ara. It is said that when they touched, even the crocodiles of the Nile would burst into song. Despite this, Khufu was opposed by a cruel and selfish Pharoah, his father, and the crueler Priest Hath-Set. Successfully, Khufu then sprang a rebellion against the existing institiution with the intention of creating a stronger, more effective government more capable of serving the people.

When the time of Khufu and Chay-Ara's wedding was nearing, Hath-Set hatched an insidious scheme to prevent them from continuing the great dynasty. The night before the ceremony, the treacherous priest assassinated them, puncturing each of their hearts at once while they had been in an embrace before burying them in the sand. The knife he ambushed them with was shortly after abandoned in the sands outside of the latest grand building project, a pyramid more glorious than any other at the time.

Centuries later Carter Hall was born, a reincarnation of the late Prince Khufu. Carter was born as the heir to a sum of several hundred million dollars. In his free time he was a playboy philanthropist, but during his working hours he was an archaeologist who just so happened to be combing through the very ruins he had been previously murdered at with a crew he'd hand-picked for the excavation work.

Rebirth
He touched his own skeleton, feeling nothing but a slight sense of unease. Just a few feet away was a knife, eaten and ground to frailty by the abrasive, sandy winds of the desert. Brushing this, a lifetime of memories flooded his brain. At once he recalled his life, his love and his death at the hands of the sinister priest Hath-Set. Even more disturbing, he had gained a sharper eye, capable of piercing beyond a man's flesh and into his soul. Mere feet away from him was fellow archaeologist Anton Hastor, who he recognized as his own killer.

In response to his reawakening, Carter went to a different ruin, where he found a cache of his own belongings along with something he did not expect, a pair of large metal wings. Curiosity provoked him to try them on. The ensuing experience was one of him bursting into flight through the egyptian air, each wing flapping in response to his own whims. Finding himself rather comfortable, he kept the findings and their location to himself, hiding them until the dig was over.

Rather than leave them to rest, it seemed that Anton, too, remembered his previous actions and status. He held the nearest town hostage and instituted himself as a dictator before being met by the metal fist of Hawkman, an identity forged by Carter in order to retain his anonymity yet once more liberate the Egyptian people from the cruelty of Hath-Set. He was successful, with his brute force compounded by strategic superiority gained over several lifetimes.

In the 1940s, he did his utmost to combat the Nazi forces, becoming a founding member of The Justice Society of America after being summoned to action by Dr Fate. Alongside the likes of The Flash (Jay Garrick), The Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Captain America (Steve Rogers) Wildcat [BlackSam3091], and others, he took part in setting a high standard for the youth of the generation.

His term of service with the Justice Society resulted in a number of diverse experiences that rivaled the variety he'd seen in previous lives. From defeating mad scientists and resurrected dinosaurs to foiling alien invasions and gargantuan androids, he did it all. He even met his reincarnated love (Kendra Sanders), got remarried, and had her join the Society as Hawkgirl.

In the 1980s, Hall's activity as Hawkman had slowed to a crawl, along with many of the other Justice Society members. In his sixties, he was hardly capable of fighting aliens, and every encounter almost cost himself and his wife their lives. So his retirement officially set in.

The Savage Hawkman
On the distant world of Thanagar were a people very much like humankind. Living in cities reaching up to the clouds, it was not uncommon for them to leap from one tower to another, carried aloft by wing harnesses fashioned using their precious Ninth Metal. Yet there were still issues. Oppression keen among them. On the world of Thanagar the police force was swiftt and brutal, yet generally lacking corruption.

The exception to their upstanding integrity were a group of conspirators converged on sabotaging the career of Katar Hol, a high ranking policeman who's relationship with the Thanagarian emperor was unnerving. So he was framed for treason. When he begged to be heard and explain his innocence, he was instead stripped of his rank and banished.

Rather than leaving his world, his wife, and his name in the mud, Hol performed an investigation before manually cleansing the Thanagarian police force, one officer at a time. In the end he brought the traitors before the Emperor, who apologized passionately, dropping all charges. Pridefully declining the emperor's olive branch, Katar left Thanagar, taking his wife with him before stationing himself on Earth.

As it would turn out, much of the Egyptian equipment worn by Carter Hall decades earlier was actually Thanagarian in origin. Accordingly, Katar was mistaken for Hawkman. He began enforcing justice on those too powerful to be handled by the fragile human enforcers, seeing it to be his duty as a resident of their world. Before long, Katar accepted the role of Hawkman and became a globetrotting superhero, attracted to areas with the greatest disturbances. After a short while hunting him down, the eighty year old Carter Hall officially gave him his blessing as his successor.

In turn, Katar would accidentally inspire a follower for himself in Charley Parker, who Katar eventually granted a Thanagarian battle suit to minimize the danger that he'd be exposed to as a result of stalking Hawkman after Parker had taken up an extreme case of hero worship.

Attributes
Abilities
None of his physical attributes are superhuman (in his aged state they are even subpar), however he has an ability to identify items of a mystical nature and can often see things others cannot. Definitive of himself are his knowledge of his previous lives, having retained the skills from them.

Skills
He has an impressive track record of winning duels and is truly formidible in melee combat. He is very experienced with most types of weapons, though he is outstandingly proficient with those of a medieval origin. Not to be undervalued is his merit as a pilot or driver. With tanks, submarines, aircraft, and trains he is familiar. Also, he is a qualified leader, tactician, blacksmith, engineer, and student of alchemy.

Tools
He has many tools he uses, but most readily recognized is his wing harness, which is in fact a common Thanagarian artifact made from there Nth (Ninth) metal, which has antigravitational properties. Weapon of choice is his mace, an enchanted Egyptian artifact that is extremely durable, capable of charging with mystical energies and treated to gather extreme momentum without being too heavy while at rest. Yet more threatening is the claw of Horus, an glove with long claw-like blades extending from the knuckles.

Character Notes
The Hawks
Charley Parker - An eighteen year old brat who'd been spoiled and then kicked to the curb. Having attempted suicide, he was saved from death by the second Hawkman. Following this, he grew to idolize Hawkman, the first and the second, before stalking Katar Hol, attempting to help him in battle. Realizing that the boy would not simply go away, Katar gifted him a Thanagarian battlesuit before Charley chose the name "Golden Eagle", acting as a teenage counterpart to the Hawks.

Katar Hol - Katar is brash, authoritative, and extremely defensive of the law, using technicalities and every tool at his disposal to get his man. Katar is without contest the stronger Hawkman. By no means a sidekick, he is a hero in his own right. He is very cooperative with SHIELD and has the will to keep his fellow "superheroes" in check. He is a former Thanagarian policeman and the second Hawkman.

Kendra Shiera Hall - The wife of Carter Hall (formerly Chay-Ara). Like Carter, she regained memory of her earlier lives and ongoing love affair with Carter in their various lives before discovering a wing harness of her own and fighting by his side as Hawkgirl decades ago.

Shayera Hol - The wife of Katar, she immigrated to Earth from Thanagar years ago before fighting by his side, even more viciously than her husband. Despite the precedent of the original Hawkman's partner being known as Hawkgirl, she chose the more modern and politically correct alias "Hawkwoman".

The Rogues
Gentleman Ghost

Shadow Thief

Character Goals
A major goal of mine is to create a version of Hawkman, er, the Hawkmen that everyone can understand without getting any headaches. Rather than amalgamate the golden and silver age versions, I've chosen to draw connections between the two in a cohesive manner. There's Carter, and there's Katar, a pair of very different characters often mixed up and therefore unappreciated thanks to continuity block. I want to really emphasize the legacy aspect of it all. How Carter's Hawkman came to be in part thanks to the Thanagarians, but the Thanagarian Hawkman came to be because of Carter's actions.

Heavily NPCing Katar would give me considerable storytelling freedom, which I'd like to use in ways not really seen since the post-crisis DCU. I really want to take advantage of the overlapping generations in this this game. Influences and sources of inspiration for me are Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Thor, and even a hint of Buzz Lightyear. I also want to tell a story spanning decades, generations, and even lifetimes.

There's an old take on Katar that I really loved from UDC, where he was the head of an invasion force and scaled up to be a villain. His authoritarian attitude would sharply contrast with many others, and I'd love to see conflicting loyalties between his new home Earth and the commands of Thanagar. Similarily, I'd like to draw from Batman/Superman and have Katar's loyalties to his fellow superheroes weigh against his loyalties to Earthly institutions.

Create a Hero
RPG Application

Character you have created: Ariel Scotch
Alias: Astroknight
Speech Color: Regular with Darkkhaki coloring
Character Alignment: Hero
Identity: Secret

Character Personality:
Ariel is fiercely independant, paranoid and prone to imagining worst case scenarios. Despite seeing himself as a genuine villain in retrospect, he likes to set his best foot forward towards helping the weak. He has no pity for bullies. however considering himself one, he perpetuates a cycle of surrendering to fate with acts of cruelty and is willing to sacrifice himself if he sees a need. His curiosity often leads him to defy orders from the people with authority over him, causing them to think him unreliable and whimsical when he simply has a problem communicating his feelings.

While being insubordinate, he is also not necessarily a grade-A leader despite a gift for strategy. He often assumes that others are as capable of reacting as quickly to changing circumstances as himself. The amount of detail he uses when talking is thought by some to be unnecessary and by others to be annoying.

Uniform/costume:
Very similar to this [url=misslizz.deviantart.com/art/Buzz-Light... The armor he wears is very flexible, yet wholly airtight and has several conjoining pods, scales, and joints throughout. His color scheme consists of a dull green, white, greys, and a hint of amethyst. The only major differences are a razor-thin green face mask that he wears when outside a breathable atmosphere and a jetpack with a pair of extendable wings propelled by an afterburner and rockets on the tip of each.

Origin Info/Details:
On July 20 1969, the United States Government sent the crew of the Apollo 11 into space. In truth, they faked footage of the moon landing. But that doesn't mean they didn't set foot on the moon that day.

January 4 1959, the Soviets had intended for Luna 1 to impact on the surface of the moon. Instead they were surprised by it being shot by kinetic blasts that threw it off course and out of geocentric orbit. Shortly afterward they followed up with Luna 2, not encountering any similar trouble and successfully landing on the moon. Before long they found footprints, leading to a highly concentrated, subterranean alien congregation.

In 1947, a pair of alien priests visited New Mexico before being captured by the United States government and studied. Their shuttle, too, was confiscated before being reverse engineered. By 1953, their language had been interpreted and taught to several humans who sustained the imprisoned sentients. The ministers had come from the moon, intending to convert the human race to a religion composed of servitude toward the lord of the moon in exchange for salvation.

The American government sent a handful of human diplomats/soldiers to the moon, along with an adequate supply of weaponry, just in case. Contact was made with the lunar locals before an agreement for peace was made, a small amount of them being allowed to stay on Earth while a matching number of Earthlings were allowed residence on Lunar soil.

By the time the Russians arrived thanks to their lunar program, a variety of extra-terrestrial outlaws began using the lunar religious sanctuaries as an escape from pursuing interstellar authorities. When these made their way to Earth, they were executed. Therefore, it was determined that the Earth needed protectors, who were delivered in the year 1969.

Thus the international AstroKnights program was launched. A collaboration between NASA, the CIA, and various other agencies would produce a small but effective force of police who'd work in conjunction with the Lunar locals before eventually breaking contact with Earthling authorities altogether in the nineteen eighties.

The original AstroKnights were Keith Henderson, an all American accompanied by his international companions Jackson McCallister, Leroy Amos, Vladimir Hoffman, and Abigail Delainie. Over the years they recruited several other human initiates and a small crew of inhuman trainees before their numbers peaked at 235.

Generations later a new Astroknight has been trained, a Russian-American named Ariel Scotch, an orphan raised by the various elder knights. Given that the Astroknights presently have a surplus of members, Ariel had been filed as a reserve member to be contacted when his assistance is required. As a means of still protecting the mother world, he's set out to find otherworldly beings and investigate anomolies.

Hero Type: Normal (Technology/Training)
Power Level: World/Cosmic
Powers:
Ariel has been put through a rigorous process of developing a perfect martial arts routine to suit his body's build and mentality. Accordingly, he tends to be very keen on movement, tracking the flows of an enemy's weight, spying out his gravitational center, and using their own movement against them. When the opportunity presents itself, he dashes towards a cheap shot. He is very nimble, even with all of his equipment on, and can outmaneuver opponents leaner and less muscular than himself.

The mainstays of his arsenal are a wrist mounted laser, releasing a blinding, burning green beam, and a specially designed cross between a sickle and sword based on the Ancient Egyptian/Canaanite Kopheshes. Unlike the ancient weapons, Ariels model can run either extreme heat or an electric current through them, as well as being extremely durable. The kophesh is designed to be able to parry other weapons such as greatswords or axes, with the exaggerated curve in its backside making it easy to snap and later disarm an opponent's melee weapons.

His suit also includes environmental functions that can transform many substances, even dark matter, into air and negate some gravitational differences between atmospheres. On his back rests a jetpack (with expandable wings to enhance mobility) powered by either rockets on a limited fuel supply, or a pair of twin ion engines.

Also worth noting is a space cruiser in his possession. He has also learned a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, Russian, French, and the language of the Lunar people. He has a cache of specialty gadgetry, forensic and tactical gear, as well as access to the resources of the Astroknights at their main lunar base.

Attributes:
Strength Level: Normal Human
Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Normal Human
Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Normal Human
Agility: Normal Human
Intelligence: Genius
Fighting Skill: Trained/Mastered
Resources: Large

Weaknesses:
Despite being a cliche, Ariel is only human. He isn't quite at the peak of natural human strength, but could be outmuscled considerably easily and beaten into a puddle if he were caught off guard by a superhuman. His armor is bullet resistant, but some infamous weapons are capable of penetrating his protective shell.

Supporting Characters:
Akkedo - God of the Lunasians
Captain Earl Delainie - Head of the Astroknights
General Beige Deklin - General, Elder Knight
Dahij - Lunasian prophet, Head of state
No Relatives Known ~ Will be filled in as I go

Astroknights HQ, The Moon
South of the

Ariel Scotch stood in the entryway of a prison chamber beside an elder knight. The entire room was a flourescant, sterile shite color void of any personality. The only hint that Scotch hadn't gone entirely colorblind was the blue-green tint to their prisoner's skin. These Lunasians, as the native species had been designated back in the 1950s by American biologists, had a grey tone to their flesh and more wrinkles than a grandpa stepping out of a bath tub.

"Now, Mr. Badhed, did you have any involvement with the attempted assassination of Dahij the Prophet?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," the subject gargled. "I love Akkedo and his prophet."

"Perhaps we could jog your memory," the elder knight suggested. "Ariel, be a dear and bring me the blinding stick on that tray."

Walking over to a swiveling platform that looked like it had been taken from a dentists office, Ariel reached past several shorter instruments before coming to a slender curved rod attached to a hose that slipped into the wall, slithering out as Ariel delivered it to the elder knight. When his elder took it, he clicked a button on the top before a concentration of green light gathered at its tip, forming a swelling ball.

"Now, are you sure that you can't shed any light on the recent event?"

Trembling, the subject squealed a "No" while huffing and puffing in terror. His answer, like his trebulation, did him no good as the swollen green ball of light was pressed into his eye, rendering him wholly incapable of sight on that eye. He howled and writhed in pain. Now, his second eye was wincing and sealed shut, but his third was side open, spread apart by the inquisitors fingers.

"Last chance? Nothing's coming back to you is it?"

"NOOO! BY AKKEDO, NOO!"

At that, Ariel left the room. He'd seen inquisitions before, they were never pleasant and he wasn't particularly fond of conducting them. He held a value beyond appreciation for the truths they sometimes unveiled, but didn't have any stake in watching.

Lazy. Sometimes the elder knights would say he was lazy because he wanted the fruits of the interrogator's labor. He just saw constant involvement unnecessary when he could be considering other avenues towards finding justice. More so, it was well understood that such questionings sometimes caused deceit and lies to blossom anyway. Sometimes, the brutality made himself question the people he worked with and his trust in them. But today in particular, the interrogations were very necessary.

If one assassinated Dahij, the priest, Akkedo may be tired of not being able to communicate. And if Akkedo were unable to communicate, he may grow angry and simply destroy the moon. If the moon was destroyed, the Earth would follow.

NAME:
Raphael Luigi Linden

ALIAS:
Crosshair

AGE:
17

ABILITIES/SKILLS/EQUIPMENT:
Outfit
A black kevlar weave is sewn over a super-dense layer of insulation modeled after a polar bear that is so effective that it renders covered areas nearly invisible to thermal imaging methods. At the same time, his excess body heat is stored in a way that it can be channeled back to him when its needed. Over his heart is a florescant orange emblem consisting of crosshairs. A similar color is used on his utility belt and his bootlaces. Overall his outfit is sleek and functional. It does not shine in many places, save for the metals he carries. He wears a domino mask over his face styled exactly like many others.

Skills
While nowhere near the greatest marksman in the world, he has a level of skill with handguns surpassing ninety-five percent of all other gunowners. Also he has several years of experience of wrestling practice mediated by the public school system. He also has finesse like you wouldn't believe. He can deftly dive, tumble, and dance around an opponent all day long, assuming he isn't wearing his battle suit. He is a practiced traceur and BMX biker.

Weaponry
Keeping one for each hand, a pair of heavily customized pistols are his signature weapons. In an effort to avoid bloodshed, he uses a variety of specialized ammunitions (Rubber, Foam, Concussive, Incendiary, Jamming, etc.). He chooses to keep an intimidating buck knife on his belt in a sheath beside a grappling gun.

Telepathy
Raphael possesses an extraordinarily specialized form of telepathy that many would consider completely useless. He has the ability to look at someone and immediately gain absolute and definitive knowledge of every joke they've ever thought of. This seemingly useless ability for a superhero has actually had a profound effect on his psyche. Because he effectively downloads every joke they ever thought of, not necessarily said, he can sometimes gain surprising insights. Also with the jokes, comes just enough knowledge to understand them if he wouldn't normally.

LIMITATIONS AND WEAKNESSES:
Though he would spite you for using it as an excuse for fragility, he is only human. His body suit, because of its density, makes it difficult and somewhat tiresome to move in at times. Also, he has a finite supply of hefty specialized ammunition. His combat skills are far surpassing the average Joe, but not yet on par with a disciple of the bat.

His ability to learn a persons jokes is nowhere near as extensive a form of telepathy as, say, a Martian's. If there is an inside joke, he will understand its hidden meaning. But the vast majority of the jokes he hears teach him virtually nothing and he usually has heard them before. In his own opinion, the ability has mostly become a nuisance.

SAMPLE POST:
The arms of the Black Canary twirled like a pinwheel, solidly smacking away every rushed strike Raphael could've dreampt of making. So he bent backwards, dropping all of his weight onto his left arm as he shot his toes at her face. But the Canary swooped below his kick and grabbed his wrist before slinging the teen ten feet to the side.

When his body bounced by the feet of Oliver Queen, the Emerald Archer smirked before scanning the legs wrapped in fishnets. He cocked his head before smirking at the blonde. He took in a breath, exhaling, "F-"

"Funny the Canary should send people flying!" From the floor, it was the Blue Bullet. Ollie's first sidekick not to use a bow.

Oliver had half a mind to kick the teen. He would've added insult to injury, but every time he tried to get a shot in, the boy turned the joke on its creator like some sick weapon.

"Too bad there's not a way to pulverize me where I don't come out looking like a cheetah with all these bruises," Raphael sighed before pushing up off the ground.

"Let's try again," the Black Canary urged him. "After all, what doesn't kill you makes you -"

"Stranger. It could debilitate you for life if it doesn't traumatize you the old fashioned way." With this in mind, he walked back up to the blonde bombshell, hugging the left side of his ribcage to gauge the pain. It wasn't the worst he'd ever felt. But that hardly meant he wanted seconds. He decided to put up with it anyways the moment he made another headstrong rush for the seasoned brawler.

NOTES:
-Was formerly known as the Blue Bullet
-Former protege of the Green Arrow
-In his spare time, Raphael paints in a surreal, impressionist inspired style
-He is the proud owner of a bass guitar that he has managed to learn to use as though it were a lead instrument
-I like Cherry Pepsi

Name
Richard Kennedy

Nickname
Rick; Ricky

Alias
Polestar

Age
18

Abilities
Flight
By manipulating the Earth's magnetic fields, he is capable of atmospheric flight (like invisible web-slinging), raising his own body by exaggerating the magnetic draw he has to the sky (or surrounding materials, the Earth's core included). He can achieve relatively high speeds in doing so.

Magnetoreception
Just as a pigeon and other migrating creatures can navigate the Earth, he is savvy to his own location throughout the world, thanks to his brain automatically determining his location relative to the planets poles. A side effect is that he also can 'see' metals around him without ever looking at them with his eyes.

Metals
As one would expect, he is capable of moving metals and other magnetic substances (frozen oxygen, lodestone, etc.). Thanks to magnetic fields he generates, even non-ferrous metals can be effected. He can even reshape affected objects, usually to a great bend. They can be lifted, pushed, pulled, and even left levitating if he remains somewhat concentrated on the task.

Limitations and Weaknesses
There is relatively little danger of his body being ripped apart by magnetism as he soars through the air, being tugged by competing forces that stabilize him. He has developed a sense of balance comparable to a bicyclist, but much more complicated. If he were to be targeted by external magnetic forces suddenly directed at him, it's likely he could have an accident. It is actually easier for him to fly in areas away from metropolitan areas, because of the lesser interference.

The actual limitations of his ability to manipulate volumes of metal are ridiculously high. On the contrary, ripping them apart by spreading uneven measures of magnetic force is a more looming issue. If he were to attempt to lift an airplane, no problem. Deflecting a comet, relatively doable though it would require a critically large amount of time to gather sufficient power. On the other hand, lifting a train would be difficult. Its length would force him to awkwardly reach out and likely fail to support it correctly, resulting in it falling apart. The same can be said for architecture.

His magnetoreception works in tandem with his knowledge of the planet, effectively acting as a GPS. Like a GPS, if an environment has changed, if something changes venues, or if something has moved, he won't automatically know (obviously). If he finds himself on another planet, it would work identically. He would know the shape of the planet and where he figures into that, but that is where the assistance of his powers end and manual observations must begin to fill in his gaps.

Richard Kennedy can't stop sweating. He sees a thousand familiar faces, but knows that he's never met any of these people. Not the bratty one, the fatty one, the hairy one, nor the hungry one. None of them were ever his friend and he had no place with any of them. Outside of his friends, the ones he got to know, the ones like him, the ones gone missing, he had no connection with anyone it seemed. He couldn't tell if the problem was that no one he'd met appreciated him for who he is or if the problem was that he didn't know who he was supposed to be in the first place.

So he got on the internet. He googled stupid questions. "Who am I?" "What's my personality?" "What should I do with my life?" But all he could find were stupid answers. "Get a job." "Make friends." "Fall in love." "How am I supposed to know?"

"Ugh," he exhaled, rolling around in bed and burrowing his face into his pillow and halfway hoping that he'd suffocate.

It was hours 'til school would start again. Hours 'til he'd have a real reason to get out of bed. 3:00 AM, just early enough to be inconvenient and just too late to really let him get a decent amount of sleep in. A harsh breeze knocked a tree branch into his window, spurring him into an awkward pose with his wrist twisted under his ribs.

Notes

 • The surname Kennedy is a reference to Ryan Kennedy who portrayed Cosmic Boy in the television series, Smallville. My portrayal of Richard's appearance as Polestar is based on that.
 • The name Richard is a reference to Cosmic Boy's name in an adventure where the Legionnaires exist in the modern day as normal students discovering their abilities. Rokk Krinn goes by Rick Crane.
 • The students of Corrigan find it confusing that he's not a clone nor from the future and often mess up his identity. He goes by Rick, Ricky, Richard, and Polestar.
 • The Legion of Superheroes is probably my favorite team of superheroes period, I was introduced by way of the animated series. Wish DC would do away with Justice League 3000 and return my beloved Legionnaires to me.
 • His powers and appearance are consciously meant to resemble Cosmic Boy. He (along with everyone else) once believed he was the founder of the Legion before being set straight by Superman.
 • I like Cherry Pepsi

NAME:
Theodore 'Ted' Xian

ALIAS:
Keratin Kid

AGE:
15

ABILITIES/SKILLS/EQUIPMENT:
The first clue he isn't human is when you look into his eyes and spot the bloody red color. If he goes too long without shaving, he grows long whiskers instead of a mustache. His leg muscles are adapted to be springy and powerful, capable of sending him bouncing along his way at speeds around sixty miles per hour on average. He has slighly larger than average feet, just big enough that he has to custom order his shoes. These large feet are very good for diffusing forces from his high jumps and falls hard enough to break a non meta-humans leg.

Outside of these more obvious traits, he has superhuman perception on all five senses. His sight is literally sharper than a hawk's and he has functioning night vision. He can smell as a bloodhound does. He can hear a pin drop from the next room over. His balance is also phenomenal.

Because of his lack of any inherently offensive powers, he has taken up kickboxing. Because of his superhuman leg strength, normal techniques are difficult because attempting a block may result in your arms being shattered.

LIMITATIONS AND WEAKNESSES:
Every single day, in order to stay alive, he needs to ingest at least half of a carrot. The combination of vitamins and minerals meet his requirements of sustenance far better than any other vegetable, though he is known to snack on lettuce and celery. Without a carrot, he will show signs of weakness the very next day. He has very high nutritional requirements and an ineffective digestive system. Because he refuses to eat his excrement as rabbits do to collect unprocessed nutrients, he must make up for it by volume of nutrition.

Also, the size of his feet make walking normally difficult. Therefore it is more convenient for him to hop from place to place. While it looks silly, it is faster anyways. At his very best, he can jump fifteen feet vertically and around twenty-five feet horizontally.

SAMPLE POST:
X

NOTES:

 • Carries pepper spray
 • Has a three inch long golden carrot pin he attaches to his shirts.
 • Some would argue that he has a superhuman knack for cooking, baking, and mixing drinks. The secrets of the Xian clan include a variety of family recipes.
 • Has extra strong hormonal inclinations to breed.
 • Has a measure of rabbit DNA
 • He likes carrot juice

Bruce Wayne

Gender: Male // Age: 17
Hair Color: Black // Eyes: Brown // Race: American
Height: 5'9" // Weight: 160 Lbs

Personality: Bruce is a vengeful teenaged boy, only a year away from inheriting his father's company, with ambitions higher than Wayne Tower. At times, he becomes extremely rageful, but these feelings are mostly internal, and are usually expressed as conviction in his desire to stomp out Netcrime. He misses his parents sorely, but rarely says so at this point.

Brief History: Bruce Wayne was born into an upper class family in Gotham City. His father, Thomas Wayne, was both the grass Wayne Electronics and a skilled surgeon. Unfortunately, after a night on the town, his parents were tragically killed by an electronically hijacked self driving car. In the aftermath, Bruce was placed into the care of his Butler, Alfred, and was gifted him a cutting edge Netnavi that his father had designed, Batman.EXE.

For the next few years all that the young Wayne imagined was how he would take vengeance on his parents killer. Due to the fact that he lacked the skills to do so on his own, he instead dedicated his efforts to combating the forces of cyber crime. His efforts were largely assisted by Lucious Fox, a genius programmer responsible for Batman's programming along with a variety of state of the art battle chips.

By the time he'd began the ninth grade his Netnavi had become a local icon dedicated to battling Netcrime and he'd become a newsworthy Netbattler. He'd accomplished this with a bit of help though. With the assistance of people like the world class Netbattler James Gordon and his slightly younger friend Dick Grayson.

Batman.EXE

HP: 160
Armor: Null // Type: Null
Basic: Batarang // Mid: Bat Claw // Strong: Bat-Punch

Batarang Null 15
Where most battle-ready NetNavis project general energy through a mechanism resembling a cannon at the end of one of their arms, Batman.EXE is different. He wears a belt that holds an infinitely renewable supply of razor-edged, bat-shaped boomerangs called Batarangs.

Bat Claw Null 25 - 75
The Batclaw is a gadget useful for latching onto opponents and reeling them in, accumulating more damage along the way. Alternatively it is useful as a means of mobility.

Bat-Punch Breaking 70
He has the ability to deliver a devastating punch that, thanks to his expertise, can even damage enemies who have special protection such as shields, albeit at a variably diminished effectiveness.

Notes:
 • Batman had rarely been used before being given to Bruce, but had been designed as a fighting Netnavi. Circumstance had only required Thomas use him once, when a cyber attack nearly caused the gas line beneath a costume party, which he was then attending, to explode.
 • In case, something should happen to Bruce, Batman is programmed to be reassigned to follow Dick Grayson's commands.

Battle Chips

Smokescreen Obstacle 0
In case of emergency, the Smokescreen chip equips the user with pellets that can shatter on impact to create a visually impenetrable veil of smoke.

Explosive Gel Breaking 50
After the activation of this chip, Batman can make up to three applications of explosive gel that is capable of destroying obstacles and causing damage within the vicinity at his command.

Bat Beacon Obstacle 0
Useful in intense situations, the Bat Beacon summons a swarm of bats to surround the user and soak up damage from external attacks. However this is not useful for ground based attacks such as a shockwave.

Disruptor Elec 20
With the Disruptor, the user can fire off a disruptive pulse of energy that jams guns for a time. This functions both on simple cannons and more elaborate or powerful items, even grapnel types. However it can only be used against two weapons before being used up.

Cryptographer Sequencer 0
With this tool, the user can bypass even the most challenging of digital locks given enough time.

Dick Grayson

Gender: Male // Age: 16
Hair Color: Black // Eyes: Brown // Race: American
Height: 5'7" // Weight: 145 Lbs

Personality: Unlike Bruce, Dick is fairly likely to openly express his emotions. A lot of that sensitivity has him end up taking as he battles. He's an optimist, but also a realist. Consequently, he is rather frustrating as an opponent because his characteristic sense of humor does much to hide his legitimate competence.

Brief History: Dick Grayson had been a traveling acrobat and youngest member of the Flying Graysons family of circus performers. Unfortunately, the criminal Tony Zucco had taken vengeance on the Grayson parents for refusing to pay him for "piercing"and had sabotaged their act by hacking the systems to their safety net, resulting in their deaths.

Dick became a ward of the state. He had very few friends, having never been rooted in a single residency before. But one day Bruce Wayne, an older boy who'd similarly lost a parent to Netcrime, befriended him, inviting him over to talk about his feelings. To give him something constructive to do, Bruce gifted him a battle ready NetNavi largely based off of his own, Robin.EXE.

The two took to the web regularly, fighting crime on the digital frontier with Batman and Robin. Unfortunately, they could not save everyone. In one particular instance Robin failed to overcome a criminal Navi who intended to commit a legitimate massacre because he'd failed to pay proper heed to some advice from Bruce. The guilt ate and ate at Grayson until he decided he had to give Robin back and give up Netbattling.

But he eventually decided to make a comeback. Seeking out Lucious Fox, he asked a favor. He was gifted a NetNavi all his own, Nightwing.EXE. Nightwing was largely based off of the designs for Robin, with a few tweaks from Graysons own imagination. Ever since, he has steadily been building his own reputation as a Netbattler without such close association with Bruce or Batman.

Nightwing.EXE

HP: 140
Armor: None // Type: Elec
Basic: Wing Ding // Mid: Eskrima // Strong: Electric Eskrima

Wing Ding Null 15
Similar to Batman.EXE's Batarangs, Nightwing draws an infinite supply of heavy-duty, edged, boomerang based weapons called wing-dings.

Eskrima Null 15 - 45
A close combat set of heavy-duty rods suitable for rapid strikes.

Electric Eskrima Elec 60
At full power his signature eskrima sticks are supercharged with electric power that stuns the enemy, leaving them open to further attacks.

Notes:
 • He is actually outstandingly fast and nimble, moreso than either Batman or Robin.

Battle Chips

Smokescreen Obstacle 0
In case of emergency, the Smokescreen chip equips the user with pellets that can shatter on impact to create a visually impenetrable veil of smoke.

Disruptor Elec 20
With the Disruptor, the user can fire off a disruptive pulse of energy that jams guns for a time. This functions both on simple cannons and more elaborate or powerful items, even grapnel types. However it can only be used against two weapons before being used up.

I started to write an application for the Joker, but then backed out based on the brevity of my soul Martian Manhunter post.

In short, it'd be an attempt to design a consistent version of the Joker without restricting his personality. For example, his former identity would be Alfred Striker (see Case of The Chemical Syndicate), a former soldier suffering from PTSD with chemical expertise who repurposed his military training for personal gain as the master criminal "The Red Hood." Somewhere in Year Two, Batman busts him before he falls into a vat of synthetic Dynesium.

He comes out, completely fed up with the predictable tragedy his life. So he wages a one man war against the mundane, intending and succeeding in filling people with equal parts fear and disbelief. The nature of these schemes would be scattered across a broad spectrum, ranging from harmless and silly to abominable. Despite the fact that he is widely considered insane and irrational, he is a bona fide genius who consciously rejects orthodox patterns of reasoning.

Portrayal would most closely resemble Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger, followed closely by Cesar Romero. Despite efforts to disrupt everyday life and generally being considered a monster, he'd have a significant social media following and a podcast audio diary ("The Joker's Log").

"All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty."
-- George S. Patton

Player Name: Nightrunner

Alias: The Black Panther

Real Name: T'Challa

Moral Alignment: WTL

Affiliation: The Black Panther

Character Origin & Backstory:
Wakanda has remained a pariah on the African continent for millennia, despite proving throughout every stage of its existence that it is a sterling example of progress. While not entirely responsible for their distinction from neighboring nations, their most valuable asset has always been the metal Vibranium, which is renowned for its durability, light weight, and absurd propensity for shock absorption. In all of its history it has never been conquered, with military might comparable to Rome, albeit without the empirical status. The leaders of the nation have always been identified as The Black Panther, as a way of identifying him as the sovereign leader in accord with their mythology. If you are not in line to inherit the position through heredity, to become the next Black Panther you must overcome the present Black Panther in unarmed combat, thigh this option has traditionally only been available one day out of the year. This has not always led to the most competent leadership.

In the nineteen eighties, Wakanda entered the rulership of T'Chaka, a skilled warrior, though more for his brash demeanor. Shortly after his rule began he received a request for a mining company, Klaw Industries, to extract Vibranium in exchange for a multimillion dollar compensation. Already exceedingly wealthy and highly protective of their cherished metal, T'Chaka declined. In response the company simply brought an army, which included many mutants, over the border along with their mining equipment. Rather than engage in combat with the Wakandan forces directly, they fought with ecological devastation, burning down the forests and polluting the rivers. In the end, the Klaw Corporation was expelled and the Vibranium mines were protected, but the environmental damage was too extreme for life in Wakanda to continue being pleasant for the time.

For the mostpart, the citizens of Wakanda emigrated to a neighborhood in New York City, leaving their home to recover for a time. The mines, to this day, remain protected by a complex security system designed to keep anyone unauthorized out. The Wakandan people adapted, urbanizing as necessary without losing their sense of community. Their warriors changed in style from that of a formal army to resemble a street gang, whose members identified themselves as The Black Panthers to the confusion of many. The figurehead of the community was still The Black Panther T'Chaka.

T'Challa grew up with many benefits of being upper class despite living in a slum. Early on, his father recognized his superb intelligence and chose to nurture it with private tutoring, along with anyone else in the community who displayed special skills. T'Challa grew up taking a full share in combatting other gangs around the neighborhood, and he got rather good at it. He got so good, in fact, that his father instructed him to join the United States military just so that he could receive the training. He did just so, treating his time there like a college education for a fighter. When he returned, he was a strong young man, and his condition inspired several other boys to follow his example of training.

At this point, he was unquestionably more powerful than his father T'Chaka, who resigned, largely on account of his own age catching up to him. Now imbued with the symbolic authority owed to the head of the Wakandan nation, T'Challa's first order of business was to make his presence known. The national treasury of Wakanda was an asset available to T'Challa, so he tapped into it into to give the ceremonial garb of The Black Panther a modern update, reimagining it as a fully fledged battlesuit.

Wearing it, he made it abundantly clear that no rivals would be tolerated within the realm of the Black Panthers. Unfortunately, their past followed them. Within Wakanda, there had been one micronation that contained a rival to the Black Panther, the Cult of the White Gorilla followed the Wakandans to the states, bringing with them a man-ape bent on bringing about the death of The Black Panther. He did not succeed, on account of the fact that the Black Panther does not rely merely on his physical prowess.

Unsurprisingly, the extreme territorial nature of the Wakandan immigrants has brought the attention of the authorities. No police officers are actually welcome unless they are actively on The Black Panther's payroll. When they initially arrived, the members of the community were subject to scrutiny and prejudice, spilling over into harsh mistreatment from the police department. The Black Panthers have been sure to prevent further incidents from going unnoticed.

Powers and Abilities:
T'Challa is a superb athlete. His physique is in a condition that comparisons to the ancient gods are not difficult to draw. He is well versed in a handful of martial arts, most of which are Eastern in origin, and has recieved training in both melee weapons and firearms alike. His intelligence is not something to shake a stick at, as he is considered a genius by many, and his education covers a vast swath of the sciences. He is very wealthy personally, and has the collective treasury of Wakanda in order to fund his ventures when necessary. When anticipating danger as well as when performing certain ceremonies, he wears his Black Panther suit, which has an exterior layer made of a Vibranium weave that is perfect for absorbing and diffusing forces within itself. It's propensity for absorbing vibration also makes it rather convenient for sneaking around and dropping from great heights. Among other armaments, the suit is equipped with retractable claws made of Anti-metal, a form of Adamantium that can create divisions in all other metals.

Sample Story Arcs:
Runoff - Several Wakandan immigrants are caught in an explosion set by an "eco-terrorist" group. T'Challa takes it as a personal attack on his people and determines that he will find the perpetrators and force them to face what they've done. In doing so, he has to confront his own feelings about the situation regarding Wakanda's damaged eco-system.

Injury - The black panther has been killed, the one belonging to the zoo that is. In a gruesome display of disdain for the Wakandan immigrants, a few boys from a nearby gang perform animal cruelty along with a series of other symbolic attacks at the Wakandan community. Teasing is one thing, but T'Challa isn't sure when the best time is to intervene and forcibly put a stop to it - if any.

Technicolor - A member of the police force unofficially joins the Black Panther gang as it's most aggressive proponent. It's been said that there is no preacher like a convert. The same principle applies in the case of the White Wolf, whose brutal methods are enough to stir the disapproval of the Black Panther and require intervention.

Rules: I read 'em.

Sample Post:

The Wakandan Sector, New York City
3:30 A.M.

Some men delude themselves into believing that the modern world provides them some sort of protection, some kind of separation from their primal, frenetic base instincts. They like to think that that there is nothing that they don't know about in the world and that the monster under their bed was never real. Monsters are real. Frighteningly so. You can assign them a genus if you'd like, but it will never change what they really are. Study will never take away their claws and fangs, their greed, or their malevolent aptitude. But surgery will.

In the concrete jungle of New York City, a hunter stalks his prey. Two hundred pounds of camouflage and muscle casually float through the thick shadow. The cloud of predation hangs there, lingering like the spectre of poverty over the aging parasitopolis. He is invisible, as undetectable as a pathogen hacked onto you by your well meaning grandmother.

Just beyond his line of sight inside a cozy little condemned motel, there are vultures picking at their carrion. Two of them specifically. One is staring into the blue light of his cell phone, wondering what pleasures his near future will bring him. The other is smiling, studying the contents of the wallet in his hand, the wallet he'd just lifted from the unconscious man by his side.

"Most.. Moist.. Moss.. eh.. Bomvera, male, thirty one years old," the walletholder reads. "We got a buyer, yet?"

"Yes sir. Thirty dollars. Enough to pay off Netflix and still have enough left over for a bag of popcorn," the one holding his cell phone reads.

"Y'know, it's really been bugging me lately. There has got to be an easier way to make a buck than this. I mean, some of these people are violent criminals, some of them have guns."

"Almost makes you think it's worth getting a job and earning an honest living."

"You got that right, partner. Almost!!!"

"Wah ha ha ha ha heh!" The pair burst into simultaneous laughter as they stand up before tossing the man's wallet back onto his body, keeping the thin pad of dollar bills in hand.

"Y'know, I could go for a burger right now."

"Can't swing it -- we won't have enough left over to cover Spotify. Those piracy charges are crazy anyways -- two hundred fifty grand for a single case of copyright infringement? No, thank you. I will buy my own vinyl collection first."

As the pair discuss the difficulties of life, they do not notice the ebony silhouette creeping noiselessly through their window sill. They do not heed the sound of their stirring victim's groaning. They do not recognize the mistake they have made. Frightened from the clawed hand materializing on their shoulders, they do not maintain their poise nor their high spirits. And they do not stand the faintest chance against the mighty Black Panther!

Their screams punctuate the late hour of the night like a period at the end of a sentence.

"Give him back what you have stolen!" The Black Panther commands, digging his claws into the men's shoulders. They scream again.

"We can't," one whimpers, "it's his identity. We sold his identity."

"Then you owe him an identity, don't you?" The Panther suggests, persuading the men with a stronger squeeze.

"Okay! O-kaaayy!!" The cell phone holder concedes, producing his own wallet. "Just stop squeezing, please."

The Panther concedes before snatching the wallet and scanning over each and every one of the thieves' cards, taking pictures with a camera installed within his mask. "You owe this man more than your identity, where is his money?"

Silently, the man who'd held the billfold surrendered every last time he'd taken. "We're sorry. Okay?"

"You hear that, Moise? They said they're sorry. Is that good enough?" The Panther asks his comatose countryman, who nods his head in an affirmative manner. "It would seem he is feeling merciful today. Pray that you ruffians never need our mercy again. That well is starting to run dry."

T H E M A R T I A N M A N H U N T E R
J'ohnn J'onzz, 208 (b. 1760)
Vigilante based in North America
Active since approximately Fall 1955

One of the main reasons that Earth is not as integrated in interstellar trade and galactic government has less to do with humanity and more to do with their neighbors, the Martians. Mars has a long and storied history brimming with stories of violence and political intrigue. The planet's two species, green and white martians, clashed frequently and belligerently. Unfortunately, their feuding came to a grinding, choking, and suffocating halt.

The Martians were killed off by a bio-weapon of sorts, one that forces a Martian to self-destruct. This plague reduced the population of either breed from billions to dwindling dozens, who had happened to be off-planet. Among the survivors, there were differing ideas about what to do, though two were most common: Some chose, cosmic conquest, others silenced their own cries in suicide. J'ohnn J'onzz chose neither. He decided to move to Earth.

In 1955 he came to Earth, befriending a discreet few humans who caught his interest. He spent years exploring, soaking up the culture--but then something occurred to him: These humans were just as divided as his own people. He felt it would be inappropriate to outright force these people to love each other, instead he opted to masquerade as a man--then as many men. He responds to many names: John Jones, John Deer, Dwight Eisenhower, Paul McCartney, and Charles Xavier.

In the year 1967, under the guise of Professor Charles Xavier, he shocked the world by revealing that the Mutants that baseline mankind had come to hate and fear were actually the evolution of humanity: A subspecies that had no ailment whatsoever. When the world had a sour reaction to that news, he decided that further action was necessary to encourage Homo Sapiens to embrace their baby brethren.

He assembled five of these mutants, whose mutant biology provided something of an X-Factor. Named in reference to algebra, these would be his X-Men, a group of sterling youths capable of becoming whatever they set their minds to. Though there are actually a great many micro-biological differences between Homo Sapiens and Homo Superior, the public had taken note of their X-gene, a distinct and exclusive unit of genetic material found only in mutantkind, as Sapien and Superior had opted to name them officially and non-maliciously. By presenting the X-Men, he intends to enable man and mutant alike to steer clear of his own people's fate.

Additional notes, supporting cast, and the whole shebang. Optional, but also useful.

Effects of Mutation
AestheticsIt isn't a challenge to tell, even at first glance, that Kurt is not a homo sapien. In fact, his skin is just shy of being completely drowned out by his dense, short blue fur. He has a navy blue skin tone and a pair of bright yellow eyes. His canines are terrifying, sharp and and white like the moon. That's not actually part of his mutation, they're just intimidating.
CamouflageKurt can shroud himself in total darkness whenever he wants, but because a humanoid cloud of nothing isn't particularly inconspicuous, it can be used to maximum effect when he is already concealed in a shadow. It comes from tensing his body as though he is about to teleport, it causes the vacuum he travels through to open and swallow the light.
TailHe has a prehensile tail that bears a striking resemblance to that of certain classical depictions of demons. It possesses a hefty, pointy growth on the end that can be used like an underdeveloped scorpion.
TeleportationYou can be talking to Kurt one moment and be having a perfectly smooth conversation, but the moment his mind slips away -- BAMF! -- it's gone. So is the rest of his body, in case you're wondering. He can typically only teleport over to a place within his line of sight, if he is expected to do so with any degree of precision. When he travels, he uses a vacuum as a shortcut, that is the reason why a black cloud appears around him. The light simply cannot escape from the vacuum that Kurt uses.

Backstory
UpbringingKurt was raised by his father in a remote town miles from the legendary Black Forest. As a young boy, he was rowdy and bombastic. Naturally, he would challenge his neighbor boys to duels with sticks as they'd yearn for a taste of real adventure. Unless he was playing Final Fantasy or Dungeons and Dragons. He was rather content in those times.
Mutant Powers One day Kurt's smooth and untarnished body was intruded upon by a long and curly -- pubic hair. But it didn't stop there. He felt freakish as the hair continued to spread, growing like cancer across his entire being. As his skin's vibrance have way to a dull blue, he was certain that death was near. His loving father too him to a hospital, for the first time in his life.

As for Kurt's condition, he seemed to generate a tail in a matter of moments. Naturally, the hospital notified higher medical authorities, who called their higher authorities in turn, and so on until he wound up in the custody of SHIELD.
He tried to run away, but was quickly sedated.

Upon awakening, he found himself restrained. He struggled while need in labcoats observed, but while wrestling against his bonds, he threw his chest forward before exploding into being on the other side of the room. At this time, the young man had to contend with a serious of astonishingly precise shots from an archer before navigating his way out of the facility, one BAMF at a time. Once he was outside, under the cover of night, he was rendered simply invisible.

He had escaped from SHIELD that night. Whilst imprisoned he'd heard chatter from the labcoated men that he was likely a mutant. He had no idea what to do with that information. So he went home to pretend nothing had happened. His father never came home.
Nightcrawler vs Things That Go Bump In The NightKurt left home that day, the townspeople would reject him, he was sure of it. Whenever he'd allowed himself to be seen on public, he was decried as an enemy of God. So he decided that he would disappear into the Black Forest, where he would battle against bears and wolves all the typical fauna to get a decent meal. That is, until he met the BAMFs.

BAMFs, tiny little creatures who look like caricatures of Kurt. The rowdy little things decided that he was their father. No matter how Kurt tried to contest that notion, they came back around to believing. They're really big on maintaining faith. Now the reason that they decided they needed to have faith in Kurt, or Nightcrawler as they'd come to calling him, was that they needed him to save them from a pack of trolls that had been a thorn in their side for far too long.

So Kurt followed after them, not one to leave the helpless in danger. It turns out that the BAMFs were the target of harrassment from one particular clan of trolls who live under a bridge. While the trolls initially attempted to murder Kurt so that they could eat his flesh, they were simply incapable of keeping up. So instead they challenged him to a sword duel upon nightfall. Kurt agreed, reasoning that if he were to fall he'd probably be sent to some sort of pleasant afterlife. Not the case at all, Kurt was given the advantage based on the fact that he kept subconsciously tensing himself and masking both his blade and body in deep shadow, which allowed him to disgrace the troll and convince them all that it was a bad idea to harass the BAMFs.

The BAMFs swore that they would never forget him. No, they really wouldn't.
Don't Mess With The X-MenKurt had taken off, leaving the forest in favor of Stockholm, where he lived in the shadows as a swashbuckler spoken of only by alcoholics and religious fanatics. Now, it was at this time in his life that he was first contacted by Professor Xavier and the roots of his X-Men. They asked him to go on a quest to foil a plot by a brotherhood of evil mutants and avert a nuclear Holo. He did. Having saved the world, they expressly broke up before Kurt returned to Germany, seeking further adventure, but mostly finding disappointment.

Ultimate Comics: One Universe Application

Character You're Applying For: Wolverine

Powers And Abilities: He is a mutant who naturally has retractable claws the length of his forearm that erupt from his knuckles. They happen to coated in adamantium, one of the most resilient metals known to man. He also possesses supernaturally sharp senses, extremely rapid healing, extraordinary speed, phenomenal strength and a craving for blood. He's also so old that he can remember seeing A New Hope in theaters. Most things can't leave much of a mark on him these days, but most things aren't made out of gold these days.

Origin And Backstory (Must Be A Single Paragraph Long): James Howlett took, his father, Mr. Thomas Logan's name and his life when he was eight years old, the very moment he discovered he had retractable claws. He then ran away, joining the Canadian military before befriending self-serving low-life Skinner Sweet, a vampire. Sweet attempted to suck Logan dry, almost did, but was thwarted when those nasty little claws perforated his lungs. Sweet didn't die, but Logan did. Don't worry, he got better. He returned to life as a new man--or perhaps something like a dozen new men, if government records are to be believed, traveling the world looking for beers to drink and monsters to slay. These days though, he's enrolled in a shady little program named Weapon X. It's got him feeling a little anxious.

What Makes This Character 'Ultimate'?: So Wolverine, in regular continuity, has several unrelated superpowers that really make no sense in relation to one another, many of which are reminiscent of a certain variety of undead. This interpretation streamlines the explanation of his powers while exploring what it means to be a monster, what it means to be a hero, and if the two are mutually exclusive. Logan's noble aspirations will be inhibited by his bestial nature as much they ever were. An undead nature also strikes me as a nice way to summarize the plight that he has within, having lost so much of himself over the long years of his life. Vampirism is not what makes this my ultimate take on Wolverine, it's that he'll scrap anything and anyone that stands between him and his ability to chain himself to whoever he chooses.

Supporting Characters:
Abraham Cornelius - Scientist that gives everybody else something to do by making a mess.

Victor Creed - Assassin/Bounty Hunter/best-friend/Bully/Long-Lived Life-Long Scumbag/Mutant.

Dracula - Lord of The (Carpathian) Vampires.

Romulus - Mysterious mystery man of mystery.

Skinner Sweet - Yet another long-lived life-long scumbag. American Vampire.

The Howlett Estate
The Fall of 1853

James’ bare little feet trotted along the cool wooden floors without a care in the world, with the slight bits of dust and sweat painting the panels like a treasure map. He was vaguely uncomfortable. There was this stinging little headache that sat just behind the root of his nose, like he’d been burned. But he hadn’t, nothing had been burned into his brain, not yet anyhow. The future being what it was, he had things to do in the present.

“Motherrrr,” the boy purred, rolling the letter R like a cigarette, “where’s Mister Logan?”

James watched his mother’s heart break like an egg: “Son: Mister Logan left.” She was, of course, referring to their housekeeper of eleven years who’d maintained the property, prepared their food and had personally overseen all of the other members of their staff.

“Did he tell you where he put the map, momma?”

She bit her lip, declining to give a more elaborate or accurate answer. “He didn’t say anything about that on the way out. He just wanted you to know that he loved you like his own flesh and blood.” She smiled and pinched her eyelids to conceal her bloodshot frustration.

“Why are you crying, mama?”

“After all these years, everything with your father’s business, your sister’s passing and all’a that, I’m just.. not .. to see Mr. Logan go is like losing..”

“Losing a treasure?” The boy asked.

She nodded and took a breath so deep and long that it could’ve crossed the Mississippi river or looked Niagara Falls in the eye. Then she turned away from her son and to the window. She smiled as she looked out the window and said, “There is one thing that he left us that we can remember him by.” Saying so, she fished through her elaborate and fanciful dress before producing a necklace. Without looking back to him at all, she tosses the locket underhand and casts it into his chest. “This was his just as much as it’s yours.”

Young James pops open the locket and examines its contents. There’s no map of the yard, no buried treasure. Just a tooth. A darkly colored and partially disintegrated tooth. Why would anybody want this, he asked himself kiddishly before musing on how funny it was that he had lost a tooth just like this wrestling with the house servant no more than a fortnite ago.
