Hello everyone!

As you can tell from the name of the thread, I'm hoping to garner some interest in a Nations-style Pokemon Conquest RP. The RP will not have much in the way of mechanics in regards to Pokemon battles, as I won't be attempting to emulate the game itself. Instead, it will focus on narrative: character interactions, plot, strategy, fluff, that sort of thing. I will be creating a map to track the state of the RP, though I don't promise it will be a particularly well made one!

I should warn, as well, that this is my first time even touching a Nations-style RP, so I hope you forgive any derps I may or may not have as I learn the ins and outs of GMing one. If any of you have tips and suggestions, I'm more than happy to hear them!

Without further ado, on to giving you an idea of what to expect from this!

~

Far from other lands lies the realm of Ransei.

In this land, powerful Warriors known as Warlords fight each other for control and dominance. Pokemon are commanded through the strength of a Warrior's link to their chosen Pokemon, obeying out of loyalty and friendship. These links grant Warrior and Pokemon alike great strength, and it is said that a truly strong link can result in mysterious transformations and new powers. Though Warriors and Warlords dominate Ransei, it is rare to actually be one. Warriors hold a special connection with Pokemon, though it varies from person to person and species to species. Even rarer are the Warlords, Warriors who hold command of one or more of Ransei's Eighteen Kingdoms. Warlords hold the power to bring not only Pokemon to their cause, but other Warriors as well. Truly great Warlords bring even other Warlords under their banner.

The Kingdoms of Ransei have varied in the past, legends claiming there were once far fewer than eighteen. Each Kingdom is situated in a piece of Ransei that embodies a type of Pokemon, and the Warriors and Warlords who live there almost always form links to that same type of Pokemon. The Eighteen Types are Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Water. Many of the Kingdoms are situated so they have several neighbors, and some unlucky ones are completely surrounded on all sides.

Legend holds that long ago, at a time when there were merely Seventeen Kingdoms, the endless conflict that consumes Ransei came to a halt. The never ending flux of war ceased, and friendships between the Kingdoms flourished. Yet, this peace was not meant to be everlasting. Suddenly one day, as if overnight, chaos overtook the land. War between the Kingdoms resumed, and it is said the very face of Ransei was changed. Centuries later, the campaign that brought peace to Ransei is regarded as little more than half-truths and fairy tales. New Warlords have long since replaced the old, though ancient rivalries and clan pride lingers on.

In order for Ransei to know peace once again, a great Warlord must unite the land and put an end to the conflict.

As you may have guessed, I'm looking for a maximum of eighteen players. Less than that is perfectly acceptable, and perhaps a much better idea all things considered. Players will create characters to fill the roles of Warlords, each claiming one Kingdom and thus one Type. Your starting Kingdom and Type will determine what Pokemon you can start with, as well as what Type of Pokemon your character will have the most potential to link with. It will be first come, first serve, to determine who gets what Type and Kingdom. Unclaimed slots will be made into NPC Warlords, controlled by the GM.

Players may select any unevolved Type-appropriate Pokemon as their starter, so long as it is not a legendary. Characters can be as mundane or bizarre as you like, and creativity and variety is encouraged! Trying to design them in a way that holds connection to their Kingdom and Pokemon's type is preferred, though it need not be particularly deep a similarity.

As for the RP aspects, Players can engage in battles to claim each others Kingdoms, care for their domain, and the endless other activities that can be imagined. Alliances are encouraged, as is strategy and trickiness. Players who engage in appropriate fluff and side tasks may be rewarded appropriately. As Warlords, Players also have to determine proper use of the resources at their disposal, and how to interact with the people who live under them. Players who neglect or abuse their Kingdom may find themselves open to betrayal and revolt. This is not to say only Goody Twoshoes characters will be successful, as there are many factors to determine how a Kingdom views it's Warlord.

The actual RP will be structured into Rounds. These Rounds will be made up of Turns, and adhere to a Turn Order. The Turn Order will be decided at random once the RP starts, and be maintained throughout the game. The passage of time over the course of the RP will be handled somewhat loosely. At the end of each Round the GM will post a set of results for the various actions players took, aside from the ones that would have had immediate results, and determine any new developments that will factor into the coming round. There will be no hard time limit on turns, but if there is no word from a player after several days that player will be skipped. If they are skipped more than twice their character will become an NPC controlled by the GM.

Any secrets such as traps, tricks, and so on, as well as secret alliances, should be PM'd to the GM in order to ensure fairness and any in-the-know players involved. Otherwise, including the information in a IC post will work just fine. When Players attack other Kingdoms, the Player will detail their assault plans in their post. Then the attacking player, the defending player, and the GM will discuss how it should play out. The content and results of the battle will then be posted by the GM and turn order will resume. If a Player loses their only remaining Kingdom, they are perfectly able to keep playing. Their character can serve under the Warlord who defeated them, seek refuge in another Kingdom, or attempt to reclaim their lost land. They will retain their place in the turn order as usual, though Players serving under others should consider any orders to disobey or obey.

As for the plot, it will largely be made up of the interactions of the various players with each other, tied together by a grand over-arching story that I've already got worked out. There will also be subplots of various kinds, and ideally a few of them would be thought up by the players themselves in order to further develop characters and interactions.

Players will each submit an application, and in general first-come-first-serve will be how the specific Kingdoms they want to start in control of will be handled. Applications will consist of Name, Kingdom, Castle Design, Starting Pokemon, Top Three Pokemon, Appearance, Personality, History, Linked Pokemon, Enlisted Warriors/Warlords, and Kingdom Relations. Castle Design, Appearance, Personality, and History will all be written descriptions, though if you wish to add pictures as a bonus to the description for Castle Design and Appearance then you are more than welcome to do so. Linked Pokemon, Enlisted Warriors/Warlords, and Kingdom Relations will primarily be used as updates to the ongoing status of the character through the RP.

Could potentially be interested in contributing the Dragon faction. Would you mind formatting the application into a more formal CS? I wouldn't want to forget something in the list of necessary components.

Glad to hear it! And of course, I'll be including an actual application sheet in the OOC should this get enough interest to get rolling. I just gave a brief gist of it on the off chance anyone was interested in working out a character ahead of time - I know I tend to do that.

I am interested, but I think something like that really requires a fairly tight-knit community to come to common decisions when two nations interact, specifically since it's also about war. Do you have a plan for that already, or should it just be talked out since we're all reasonable (I don't think this is a bad way of doing it, just interested)?

Well I was going to have it be between involved players of those events and the GM, and pretty much just solved through talking it out and determining what people thought would happen. If people would like to make it more of a group effort in general I'm all for it, though.

Also, I'd say if you'd all like I can make an OOC thread once we have somewhere around five people interested, but if you'd prefer to wait out to see if we can get a larger group that's good too.
