The waves rose up onto the shore, calm after such a violent storm. It tickled the coast gently, rising up, and the quickly escaping, leaving bits and pieces as a reminder of its arrival. The ocean, once a dark and terrorizing gray, had now calmed into a serene light blue, the type that one would typically think of when they thought of the beach. Along with the shore were pieces of driftwood and steel, no question where that came from. But besides the general junk, bits and pieces of possessions were here and there, perhaps a bit of cloth or remnants of a doll.

The beach, perhaps pretty at one point, had been trashed, not only by the garbage that had washed upon its once beautiful shores, but the various leaves and fallen trees from the island itself. Speaking of which, the island was fairly nice, perhaps it would have looked better if one had happened upon it before the storm. Mostly tropical, its jungle held a vast amount of trees, and undoubtedly, even more life within it. As one could see, the jungle had to stop at one point or another, and give way to mountains. First, grassy hills, that eventually broke into cliffs and jagged edges which signaled the other side of the island.

~

The Captain found himself laying there and observing what he had gotten himself into. He had, of course, fully expected not to have survived the shipwreck. After all, the chances were slim to none. But besides simply not wanting to get up, his muscles ached when he tried to move them. Feeling old, and not even in middle age yet. How pathetic! Right leg? Pins and needles, but able to move, and left was the same. Hmm, arms? Joseph struggled to force himself upright, though his arms screamed in protest. He sighed when he sat up, lazily brushed a few stray locks out of his eyes.

"Situation status... Grim." he sighed to himself, turning to look over his shoulder at the island once more. He had most likely been sitting there for hours, simply contemplating and accessing the situation, and the island, and yet still he had but little to say about it. But, he decided, enough was enough, and forced himself to stand, having much more difficulty than just sitting up. "C'mon old chap." he coaxed, patting his legs, "I know it hurts, but we've got stuff to do." And with that, he heaved himself upward, stumbling before catching himself again.

And thus began the start of his search, not only for his crew, but passengers as well. "Hello? Is anyone there?" he shouted until his voice grew hoarse, "If you can hear me, just shout!" He desperately hoped he wasn't the only one to wash ashore and survive. How befitting, the one captain who didn't go down with his ship. What a shame. It felt like hours that he walked the beach, along the line where jungle met sand. Perhaps there was someone.... someone who indeed was on this island with him.

John was awoken by the salty taste of the calm ocean that lapped at his face. He crawled out of the reach of the oncoming waves and then opened his eyes to observe his surroundings. He was on an island. That much was for sure. He was surrounded by driftwood and other debris from the ship. That's right! He had been on a ship! The last thing he remembered was being knocked unconscious which seemed correct because his head felt as if someone had slammed it into a steel door. He realized that he should start looking for survivors of the treacherous shipwreck that may have also been washed ashore on the island. "Hello?!" he shouted. He could have sworn he heard a shout. Was it left? Or maybe right? He decided to go with his gut and stood up, ignoring the pain in his arms and legs and every other part of his body, and turned to the right. After a half hour of walking he stumbled upon some footprints. "YES!" he shouted. He was elated to discover that he was not the only person on the island, and started following the footprints.

The waves they hit her form every side after the ship went down. She had not gotten on the life boat as she was told instead she had been trying to help others in, that was just how she was. Every time she tried to take a breathe it would either be forced out of her by another wave hitting her back or chest or be nothing but salt water instead filling up her lungs. Is This it she thought to herself as she reached up out of the water only to pass out the second her had felt a slight and calming breeze.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" she heard a voice her eyes still closed was she dreaming in heaven perhaps had she died?
"If you can hear me, just shout!" that voice again but softer and broken up this time. Her eyes slightly flickered open but shut to the brightness of the sun. She stayed laying down and opened her mouth to respond to the voice she ha heard. But with an abrupt jerk she sat up cough and spitting out the salt water that had taken over her lungs. Coughing hard and loud trying to get every bit of water out of her. she stopped finally able to take a big breath of fresh air in. She kept a hand on her chest feeling ash she took in air to see if anything was broken or bruised, sure enough she had a few bruised ribs and her lungs had been badly sliced up from the small partials of salt in the water. She looked over to her left then to her right, that's when she saw who the voice might have belonged to.

"If you can hear me, just shout!" John heard as he walked. He had finally gotten caught up to the owner of the footsteps. Then he heard coughing. He looked behind him and saw a girl laying on the beach. How had he missed her? He must be getting heat stroke. The sun had been beating down on him for god knows how long. He ran to the girl and knelt beside her. "Are you alright?" he asked, sympathy in his eyes. "What a stupid question. Of course your not alright. You're sitting on a beach hacking out a lung after a shipwreck and a man you've never met is rambling on to you. It doesn't sound very alright to me. But then again, maybe that is your definition of alright. I guess I can't be sure because we've never met. I do apologize. I haven't properly introduced myself. My name is John," he said with a smile and a glint in his eye.

Roland woke up with a jolt. He, however, got up too fast and felt a sting of pain in his back and head shortly after. He held his head in his hand to find his arm was covered in sand. "Wha-" He stopped, and then looked around for the first time. He was on an island? "Where- what the- who-- ugh. Don't lose sanity now." He spoke to himself and stood up slowly as to not hurt himself like before.

"If you can hear me, just shout!" He heard faintly from the distance. If he was to understand anything right now, he might as well take the chance.

"I can hear you! How'd we survive?!" He shouts to the voice, just remembering; that's right. We were shipwrecked. And he hid from everyone else, closed his eyes, and unbelievably, fell asleep.

How incredibly embarrassing. How could he even sleep in anarchy like that? "No, no. All that matters is you're alive." He reassures himself.

Grateful for the relief from the heat, John smiled and shook his head. "No I believe that that chap is a little farther down the beach. I heard him as well," John said as he took the banana leaf from her grasp and put it over his own head.

Madison awoke with a gasp and jerk, jolting upward and beginning to cough. Her mouth tasted of salt water and sand, a disgusting combination. She managed to get her coughing under control and sucked in a sharp breath, lifting a hand to her head and shielding the bright sun from her eyes, feeling a bit woozy. She could barely remember... oh. The screams, the sound of the ship creaking as it went down, the water, the choking fear she had felt. She didn't even know how she had gotten onto this beach. She didn't even know how to swim. She felt the water lapping at her legs, soaking the bottom of her red dress.

She pushed her wet, sand-covered hair back behind her shoulders; it had fallen down from the up-do it had been in. She slowly lowered her hand, blinking hard and letting her vision adjust to the brightness of the sun. She jumped once she heard shouting; it was different people, at different times. Her heart jumped. There were other people. The relief she felt was immediate. She wasn't alone. She ignored how heavy her limbs felt and began to wobble to her feet. She nearly fell down because of the way her heel highs dug into the sand. She fell down onto her hands and kicked the offending shoes off, straightening herself up. She swayed but managed to keep upright.

Her dress felt heavy with water and sand. She went around a stray piece of wood, trying to lift her dress up to make it easier for her to walk. She was already tired, dress weighing her down and making it harder to move forward. The sand was warm underneath her bare feet, sand wiggling between her toes and it almost felt nice. She concentrated on that feeling. "Hello?" she called, thinking she saw people ahead; they seemed to be moving. "Is someone there?" she shouted, nearly tripping because of her dumb dress. She had to do something about that.

Disorder...Charlie absolutely hated disorder.

When he woke up...his hair, his shirt, pants, shoes...no, just one shoes...! Everything was just chaos painted across his form, never mind the fact he was half submerged in the sand and water. Ironically, the morning sky was so peaceful. If he wasn't who he was, Charlie might've let the blue of the sky and the golden yellow of the sun ease his heart. Well, this is what happened when you had a captain who was (allegedly) afraid of storms. With this thought, he had to wonder if the crew and fellow staffers were alright, if the passengers were alright...then again, he could be alone in this one.

Spitting out a gritty mixture of sand, sea, and a little bit of blood--damn, it seems he had bit the inside of his mouth at some point--he tried to recall what happened exactly to cause this mess, but a headache was all he got. Reaching a hand up to fix his hair with his hands, his hand grazed some sort of painful head wound, eliciting a hiss from his lips. Great, a head injury. It seemed the longer he was conscious, the more injuries he discovered on his person. Patting his dressy pants' pockets, he was surprised that his glasses were still in, and was even more surprised when he pulled them out and found the glass was still in tact. Putting them on, Charlie finally got a chance to properly scope out his surroundings.

A beautiful beach, white sands, crystal blue salt water...and in his general area, there seemed to be a lot of floating debris and luggage. Suitcases and bags floating in the water brought a brief memory of some sort of fight with a wealthy man about what could and could not go on a life boat...maybe it was he who caused this head injury...? Well, this memory and the presence of the debris was enough to tell him he wasn't alone in this. Looking out the distant right, then the distant left, there was a lot of beach shores...no doubt others must have washed on shored further from his location, as he didn't see anybody or any bodies in the area around him.

First things first, after gathering his wits about him, he decided that it'd be smart to salvage the baggage from the water. It didn't need to stay floating in the water like that, and since (with all this debris) they likely didn't have a ship, they'd need to make use of what they could till help arrives. Then...then he'd have to travel down the beach to find survivors, make some sort of consecutive decision about the situation with the crew, and then spend some time reassuring the passengers. Then, there'd be setting up some sort of camp...there'd be the crew, gathering the bodies of the less fortunate at some point. Still...keep to the plan, keep organised, and things should go back to running smoothly. For now, that was the plan...

And so, Charlie started wading through the waters, pulling the baggage onto shore. A suitcase under the shallows, a large case floating out a pit further away, a leather satchel, a small purse...

Voices! Was... Was he mad? Joseph seriously considered the fact he might as well may have been. But no... It was confirmed he wasn't when he saw a figure appearing up on the horizon. "Hey!" he shouted, suddenly breaking into a sort of limp-run, "Over here!" He waved like a madman, hoping the other person could see him, or even better, hear him. And when the voice answered him with a, "I can hear you! How'd we survive?!", Joseph could have sworn he had a heart attack. Ugh, perhaps he really was getting on in his years, a heart attack with a clean bill of health? But no matter right now, he was too elated to be focused on such a thing.

As the figure became definable, Joseph tried to piece together who the young man was. Young, and not part of his crew, a passenger most likely, unless it happened that there was another shipwreck nearby. "Ah, my good man!" he said with a grin once they were close enough to talk properly, "You don't know how good it is to see yet another person upon this wretched island! My name's Captain, well, no, I don't suppose I'm a Captain without much of a boat. Just call me Joseph. It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

Isak awoke to a cacophony of bird cries and rustling leaves. He had to slowly work each muscle awake before he could rise to a sitting position, and even then his whole body felt sore. He was bruised all over, but no internal pain meant no internal injuries - hopefully. His throat was dry, and he realized he'd been without fresh water for some 12 hours or more. Sleep had helped to ease the aches, but it'd done nothing to sate his basic biological needs.

He remembered everything, crystal clear. Isak had supposed he would wake in a fog and have everything rush back to him, or that he would slowly start to remember details of the shipwreck, but neither of these were the case. He'd been conscious the whole time, save a long few minutes where he'd been underwater and blacked out momentarily. He wasn't sure how the ship had run aground in the storm, but he kept thinking about what he would have done differently were he at the helm. There were plenty of uncharted islands in the world, and usually seeing one in a storm would be a long shot. However, this island seemed quite large, one you would notice from a long ways off.

Isak had pulled himself from the shore up to the beginning of the jungle, soaking wet and falling into unconsciousness after floating toward the shore for hours. He knew it would be safer to let the trees and plants shelter him for the night, and when he awoke his skin wouldn't be cherry red.

Mentally returning to the present moment, Isak noticed a woman in a dress making her way up the beach. She had called out asking if someone was there, and he figured he had made quite a bit of sound rousing himself from sleep. Isak pushed some fronds aside and walked out onto the sand, noticing his shoes felt far too tight, and were still sopping wet. "Hello," he said, "Are you all right? If you're hurt, you shouldn't try to walk. Oh, and I'm Isak. I'd say nice to meet you, but under the circumstances it seems out of place."

He was surprised to see a man run up to him, seemingly in bewilderment; as if he didn't even believe he was real. "Yes, it is good to see another face, at least we know it's likely that more than just us survived." He says, then remembering the manners he was taught, he bows for a brief moment. "My name's Roland. I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, but I wouldn't exactly call our circumstances pleasurable right now." Being someone not used to friends, he can sometimes say things he doesn't mean, and decides to take them back. "My apologies."

The sun was almost unbearably hot. Madison almost hadn't noticed it before; she was so keen on finding the voices or just someone. Her face was a bit red, cheeks redder, as well as her exposed arms and some of her chest and neck. She knew she was sunburned and she could feel a bit of sweat rolling down her face. Why was it so hot? She noticed all the shade the jungle was providing and knew she needed to take a break in the shade. But she was afraid of being left alone.

Being left alone wasn't a huge fear of hers but on this island, after the wreck, she wanted to find someone and now. Venturing into the jungle wouldn't do any good right now. She tried to forget the horrors of the shipwreck, the water encasing her and her blacking out from fear. Before she could get her heart rate up again from recalling the memories, she spotted a man and let out a sigh of relief. She wasn't alone, she wasn't imagining the voices. He had almost scared her, coming from the fronds, but she managed to just move faster to get closer and speak to him.

"Hello." she returned and cleared her throat a bit; it felt as dry as the sand felt beneath her feet. It was uncomfortable and she cleared it again, covering her mouth before using that hand to heave her dress up above her ankles again. The sun was helping dry it but the damage was done; it was still heavy and ruined. "I think I'm just getting too hot; besides that, I'll be okay... once I find drinkable water, that is," she said. She wouldn't mind resting in the shade, though; the sun beating down was not helping how she felt. She shook a piece of brown hair away from her face. "I'm Madison. Actually, it is nice to meet you. I'm just relieved to see another face," she told him honestly, giving a slight smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. She was still recovering from the shock of it all.

John followed the girl to the captain and another man who he believed he had seen on the ship earlier in the week. He held the banana leaf over his head. "Is anyone seriously injured?" the girl asked as she was wracked with a series of frightful coughs. "No but it appears that you are ma'am. Maybe you should take a seat. You're lungs are probably still a little sore from inhaling so much saltwater," John said, a worried look in his eyes.

Joseph let out a laugh and shook his head, "No it's quite alright, I should agree with you there, it's not exactly the best circumstances, now is it?" He hastily bowed back, in all the excitement he really had let his manners go. How embarrassing! But not too soon after he had found Roland, two other arrived, one he recognized as one of the Crew's Medics, and another Passenger. "Ah, Alana, glad to see you survived as well!" he greeted, bowing first to her, and then to the other man, "I'm fine, honestly, but perhaps you should listen to this gentleman here, you seem to be in a rough shape yourself."

He brushed his hair back and tilted his head slightly in thought. "Well, I would say it was an order from your Captain, but as I explained to this fine young man here," he gestured to Roland, "I have no more ship. So, perhaps you should take this as advice from one friend to the next. Have a look at yourself, why don't you? We can't have another death on our hands after... Well, after such a thing has already happened."

Isak gave a polite half-bow and painfully mustered a smile as Madison introduced herself. It was nice to see that, at least for one survivor, the courtesies of polite society had survived the shipwreck. Her mention of drinking water reminded him of his own thirst, where before he'd been focused entirely on the aching stiffness in his limbs. Isak was already feeling the sting of the sun's rays on his skin, too. He didn't really tan, but rather burned quickly in the intense tropical illumination. It was a feature of his heritage, and one of the reasons he particularly disliked warm weather. To Isak, 25 degrees (~77 F) was hot, and here it was a lot closer to 35. And in his crew uniform, long sleeves and dress pants... it was a little ridiculous. He took a seat in the sand and removed his shoes as he introduced himself,

"I'm Isak. I was a navigator on the ship..." he trailed off midsentence, but picked up the thought just a moment later, "... and you're the first soul I've seen since washing up on this island. Did you know anyone aboard that you're looking for? Have you met other survivors? Wait, no. Water first. And shade, you should get out of the sun. Do forgive me for talking so much, but it's just so nice to find someone else alive." Isak motioned toward the clearing he'd just come from, where two trees grew close together and offered shelter from the sun.

She gave a slight nod sitting down listening to the chattering of the men, she would never have show weakness but her captain had told her to take it easy and to be honest she didn't have the energy to argue.

Madison appreciated the fact that Isak seemed to still have manners, even through what happened. It was a moment of normalcy that she could really use. Oh, he was part of the crew. She couldn't recall ever meeting him but then again, she was just the singer for the musicians. It wasn't required for her to know the whole crew and there was enough of them that she couldn't know them all. The man was talkative, that was for sure, and she politely listened as he kept talking. Honestly, it didn't bother her. Seeing another person after what had happened, hearing them speak, well, it was a relief and a comfort and Madison didn't mind his rambling in the least.

"Ah, no, you are quite all right, sir," she assured him, though the thought of water did throw her off her thoughts for one second. Every time she swallowed, it felt like her throat was made of sandpaper and it hurt a lot. She concentrated on Isak, to try and ignore the pains of her body. "I was a singer for the musicians... new, actually, so no. I didn't really know anyone well enough. You're the first person I have happen upon." the shade was beckoning to her and she didn't wait any longer. Heaving her dress up farther, she stepped from the sand and onto the ground of the jungle. She should have kept her shoes, the fear of stepping on something dangerous coming into her mind, but the heels would have been the death of her. She made her way to the clearing and let out a sigh of relief as the shade fell over her. It was still hot but the sun wasn't beating down on her any longer. She turned and fell onto her behind, touching the cooled ground beneath her and letting out another sigh. Water would make this so much better. "Honestly, your talking is not bothering me. It is actually a comfort. After what happened... it's nice to see another living human." she told him, looking up at him and giving him a kind smile.
