I'm having a difficult time picking a name for my second character, any ideas for a handsome, blonde Nordic man? I was thinking Hjolf (pronounced Yuh-ulf), but I don't even nowhere to begin with names for men. >.>"

http://www.20000-names.com/male_lithuanian_names.htm
Some names in Skyrim, although very rare, are Baltic in nature rather than Norse. (Farkas, Vilkas. Note the -as at the end of the names that are Indo-European in nature, rather than Northern Germanic.)

http://www.20000-names.com/male_german_names.htm There's a character with a very pseudo-German name in-game. The man in question is named Avulsteinn, and IIRC, some Nords in Morrowind had German sounding names.

And that name there would be pronounced more like hyölf.

I think it's fair to say that arrows are designed to pierce, not cut.
You don't see archers on the field of battle attempting to sever a guys arm with a broadhead.
Amdittidly, that'd be interesting to watch.

Well, that's the point. Arrow may have sharp, but it's meant to be pokey. Spears also have sharp, but they're also meant to be pokey.

See, I wasn't even sure I knew how to spell his own name! This is very helpful, thank you for the references, oh Great Mighty Schaft.

@MenageAUne That's why I'm stressin' bout this name! I need a hot, manly man's name, but I don't want him to sound like a common blockhead >.>'

I was about ask, @Leidenschaft, would Aelos, or Ailos, be acceptable? The sounding of the name is what I'm thinking.

-os ending in names is mostly Greek

Also consider his family status and upbringing. For people like farmers and common tradesmen, names were utilitarian. You just gave your kid a name so he'd have something to be called by, nothing fancy.

Maybe, just maybe, you're putting too much thought into it. I'm sure it's the same with you girls looking at guys, but whenever I see an attractive female in public I never wonder if her name sounds ugly. Just skim the links and find something that sounds masculine enough.

What would the beliefs of Talos entail as part of the Nine Divine?

Ignore that. Just found the UESP wiki.

Talos is seen as the Patron God of Heroes and the man races, as well as the God who blesses righteous rulers, IIRC.

Oh yeah, rip, I had a long period of inactivity ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not sure what happened though.

Just make sure it doesn't happen while you're here. Or, if you foresee upcoming absences, notify us first.

Her brother is tagging along as a minor character.

Start with one character. I don't want you to have a "minor character" as a 2-in-1 deal in order to sidestep the rule. Another problem is how obscure alfiqs are. These guys are rarely featured in games or books, so it's difficult to draw an boundaries on where alfiqs fit.

Remove the alfiqs from her party. Though you can still receive correspondences from him.

And if a khajiit steals something and nobody is around to see it, does anyone raise an alarm? I left that part kind of vague, I'll rewrite it. Mostly they're just things that are left unattended.

Fair enough. But the problem is finding stuff unattended. Unlike in video games, most people in a real world tend to keep their valuables close. Anyways, I'll see when you rewrote.

but it's Sylvanis who learnt restoration from Rhasha'Dar

My bad. Still no sun fire for you.

@Leos Klien You can write about her encounters in Windhelm before the company enters. I've been trying to get something out, but I'm really busy and tired. I want to say soon but deadlines might just turn into more empty promises.

Maybe a separate skill just for axe? What do you guys say?

What would be the process to becoming a city guard? How old does one have to be? Or does Windhelm have its own army, before 4E 201? Is there a type of conscription? Trying to find something militaristic for this guy to do before the war, as he would be 27 when it started.

Ask one of the guards, get in because of able body and having lived in the city for long?

Windhelm hosted the Stormcloak forces, but its own permanent forces are mostly the guards. In the next chapter, a militia organization called the White River Braves will be featured. These guys are active in Eastmarch and Whiterun, and do everything from coast guard duties to road patrols to shoveling snow.

When the Dragonborn took over, he was set on making the biggest army on Nirn. So yes, there was a degree of conscription. But like in medieval times and the world wars, it was selective. Plus, having the legendary Dovahkiin as your poster boy tend to generate a lot of volunteers.

Joining the town guard? You'd probably just have to volunteer and be able to provide your own weapons or stick with the shit they give you. He could also have hung around the tavern and easily fallen in with caravan guards, bodyguards for hire, dungeon-pillagers or even a stint as a highwayman. There are also likely small bands of men that take on simple odd jobs for money. Commonly called adventurers. Keep in mind that a town guard is very unlikely to see battle or combat if they're stuck behind Windhelm's walls.

The town guard is also a separate entity to the military of Eastmarch. Each hold has their own levies, meaning peasant conscripts that are lightly armed and armored with cheap gear that are recruited from villages and towns. Moving up, you have Housecarls, which is any man who serves a Jarl or a Thane or any other well-to-do person. They are bound by an oath sworn to that person, note this is different than simple mercenaries or adventurers.
